We are still talking about
the first leg of our
Financial Triangle work.
The other two legs are
good management and
generosity or giving.
Our desire to work, as children of God, should
be motivated by the desire to be productive
and to do a good job.
But our work has to make
us a good living.
3
Lev 19:13 ...the wages of him that is hired shall
not abide with thee all night until morning.
People should be paid
a fair wage when they
get the job done, and
as promised.
Don’t hire someone, then when he is finished with
the job, say, “I can’t pay you right now; you will
have to wait until I get my check.”
If you can’t pay now, set it up when you hire him.
4
I Tim 5:18 For the Scripture saith, Thou shalt not
muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The
laborer is worthy of his hire.
Whether a man works in a secular job or a full-time
ministry for the Lord:
God expects him to be paid for his work.
Volunteer work is a good thing, if a man or woman
can afford to offer themselves as free labor.
5
God warns the wealthy that they better pay those
who work for them:
James 5:4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who
have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept
back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which
have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of
sabaoth. (sabaoth = armies or hosts)
God hears the cries of workers, who are not paid a
living, and judges those who cheat them.
6
So you must be paid for your work in order to live.
And you need to choose a job that will make your
family a decent living.
Danger -- Love of money: Don’t let money
become your goal in life.
Eccl 5:10 NIV Whoever loves money never has
money enough; whoever loves wealth is never
satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.
7
Haggai 1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little;
ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are
not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is
none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth
wages to put it into a bag with holes.
Have you ever felt like that? That your money
was going into a bag with holes?
There’s a reason; Part of it might be in verse 9:
8
Haggai 1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to
little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow
upon it. Why? saith the Lord of Hosts. Because of
Mine house that is waste, and ye run every man
unto his own house.
When we work with a selfish attitude, God will not
bless what we earn;
In fact, He will blow it away and make us poor.
9
God is speaking of people who were willing and
eager to work, for their own wealth and welfare.
To build nice homes; To buy food and drink
To buy nice clothes; And to accumulate wealth.
But they didn't have time for the
House of God.
They were too busy working for personal gain, to
give any of their time or money to God's House.
10
Again: Haggai 1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, it
came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did
blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts.
Because of Mine house that is waste, and ye run
every man unto his own house.
When your personal life is more important to you
than God's house, He can’t bless you.
We need to seek first the Kingdom of God and His
righteousness and trust God for our needs.
God will supply the work we need.
11
Rich young ruler: Came to Jesus and asked,
“What must I do to have eternal life?”
Mark 10:21-22 Then Jesus beholding him loved
him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go
thy way, sell whatever thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven; and
come, take up the cross, and follow Me. And he
was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for
he had great possessions.
This man's wealth didn’t keep him from getting
saved; No! It was his love for his money.
Greed and lust!
12
Luke 9:25 KJV For what is a man advantaged, if he
gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast
away?
I Tim 6:9-10a NIV People who want to get rich fall
into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and
harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and
destruction. For the love of money is a root of all
kinds of evil.
II Tim 3:1-2 NIV But mark this: There will be
terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers
of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud,....
13
Principle: When you work, don’t
get your eyes on the money.
God wants us to enjoy life, and He will give us all
that we need to enjoy abundant living,
when we live life His way.
Concentrate on doing a good job
with a good spirit,
And the money will be there. God
will see to that.
14
The Christian Work Ethic:
Eccl 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it
with thy might; ….
Eccl 11:6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the
evening withhold not thy hand: for thou knowest
not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or
whether they both shall be alike good.
Looking for a job?
Put in multiple applicationsMake looking for a job your full time job.
15
Your job must make a living to provide the
needs of your family, comfortably.
1 Timothy 5 8 But if any provide not for his own,
and specially for those of his own house, he hath
denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
If you are out of work, just find a job.
And take the money home to care for
the needs of your family.
16
In our culture, sometimes things
get out of whack.
A woman can find a job, and the
man can’t.
What is,
is.Do an excellent job at home.
17
Work to meet a need for someone else;
That job wasn’t created to meet your needs.
You work to meet your employer’s needs, and –
In that way, your own needs will be met.
18
Your job is not supposed to be your life.
Work to live; don’t live to work.
The best job will leave time for your family.
It will leave time to be involved in your church,
time for personal worship and Bible study.
When we do things God’s Way,
there is time for all good things.
