EducatIon Maryland Education Credit Credit 2016 Legislative Proposal

What is the Maryland Education Credit

The Maryland Education Credit would propel business investment in Pre-K-12 education particularly for Marylands lowershy

and middle-income students Businesses small and large alike would be able to donate to assist families with educational expenses

and then receive a tax credit in the amount of 60 of a corporations total donation Donations would then be dispersed to families

to help pay for tuition supplies tutoring transportation and special needs services through state-registered and regulated

scholarship or Student Assistance Organizations Up to $15 million in tax credits would be available in two dedicated funds one

for the benefit of public school families and one for the benefit of Catholic and other nonpublic school families

Through this tax credit businesses can afford to give back to Marylands families now and help nurture their future

workforce Many businesses have pledged their support for this initiative and are ready and willing to invest in Marylands students

upon its passage by our state legislature

Why do we need an education tax credit

Catholic and other non public schools are not only an important part of Marylands heritage but also integral to its future

They provide a quality education stabilize neighborhoods and fuel Marylands economy Moreover Marylands non public schools

save the state nearly $15 BILLION dollars per year by educating over 100000 students outside of its public schools

Due to risings costs however non public school enrollment has decreased by approximately 45000 students in the past

decade representing an almost one-third decline in the total student body During that time period approximately 175 non public

schools have been forced to close their doors Our state legislature must act now to prevent more school closures by combating

rising costs and increasing affordability for families both of which the Maryland Education Credit will help accomplish

How will the Education Credit help Catholic schools

The Education Credit will help lower- and middle-income families afford tuition and other educational expenses for their

children thus giving them the opportunity to attend the schools which best suit their needs Furthermore the influx of business

investment will lower costs across the board for schools and children alike In short more private philanthropy means lower costs

for parents That in turn leads to higher enrollments thus improving the financial stability of our Catholic schools On top of that

businesses benefit by receiving tax credit incentives which would act to stimulate the economy

How you and your school can support the Maryland Education Credit

bull Encourage everyone in your school community to take the Education Credit Pledge and promise to reach out to their legislators at wwweducationmarylandorqpledgeltli give you a quick easy way to voice your support

bull Enlist the support of the business community including business owners executives or business networks Encourage bUSiness owners to become a Maryland Education Credit Business Partner by Signing up at wwweducationmarvlandorqBusinessPartners

bull Invite Senators and Delegates from your district to visit your school Feel free to contact the Maryland Catholic Conference for assistance

bull Send a group from your school to Nonpublic School Advocacy Day during the 2016 legislative session

LETS GIVE OUR KIDS THE CREDIT

For questions on the Maryland Education Credit please con tad Garrett J ODay Esq Associate Director for Educatian Children amp Families at the Maryland Catholic Conference via email at garrettmdcathconorg or by phane at 410-269-1155

EducatIon Maryland Education Credit Credit 2016 Legislative Proposal

What is the Maryland Education Credit

The Maryland Education Credit would propel business investment in Pre-K-12 education particularly for Marylands lowershy

and middle-income students Businesses small and large alike would be able to donate to assist families with educational expenses

and then receive a tax credit in the amount of 60 of a corporations total donation Donations would then be dispersed to families

scholarship or Student Assistance Organizations Up to $15 million in tax credits would be available in two dedicated funds one

for the benefit of public school families and one for the benefit of Catholic and other nonpublic school families

How you and your school can support the Maryland Education Credit

bull Encourage everyone in your school community to take the Education Credit Pledge and promise to reach out to their legislators at wwweducationmarylandorqpledgeltli give you a quick easy way to voice your support

bull Enlist the support of the business community including business owners executives or business networks Encourage bUSiness owners to become a Maryland Education Credit Business Partner by Signing up at wwweducationmarvlandorqBusinessPartners

bull Invite Senators and Delegates from your district to visit your school Feel free to contact the Maryland Catholic Conference for assistance

bull Send a group from your school to Nonpublic School Advocacy Day during the 2016 legislative session

save the state nearly $15 BILLION dollars per year by educating over 100000 students outside of its public schools
