ONLINE ISSUE
Our President’s
Message….
First and foremost, I would like to apologize for the tardiness of this newsletter. We have so much
going on in such a short period of time and I wanted to be sure we were able to get the information out to our
members. So I hope you enjoy this issue. It is filled with many events, photos, and information.
This year’s Annual Dinner Dance was held on Friday, May 6th at El Caribe in Brooklyn. Our Man-of-the
Year was Chief of Personnel Raymond Spinella. Chief Spinella has always been a staunch supporter of this
organization and is a well-deserved recipient of this award. Our Awards for Valor were presented that night
are named after Past President Lieutenant Mario Biaggi, Patrolman Michael Melchiona of the New York City
Transit Police Department and Patrolman Arthur Pelo of the New York City Housing Authority Police De-
partment. I would like to personally congratulate our 2016 award recipients; Police Officer Filippo Gugliara,
Police Officer Daniel Gasperetti, and Police Officer Matthew Rosiello. Their courage under extreme pressure
makes each of them worthy of these prestigious awards. Our Italian-American Achievement Award was giv-
en to actor, screenwriter, producer, and restaurateur Chazz Palminteri. Chazz was born and raised in the Bel-
mont neighborhood of the Bronx and has more than fifty movies to his credit including The Usual Suspects,
Bullets Over Broadway (Academy Award nomination), and Analyze This. Our Patrolman Phillip Cardillo
Commemoration Award was presented to Timothy Motto. Twenty-four years ago, Tim made a promise to
Phil Cardillo's son Todd, that his heroic father would never be forgotten. Patrolman Cardillo has since been
immortalized by having the street in front of the new Police Academy named after him as well as a multi-
million dollar NYPD Harbor vessel. This was due largely to Tim’s hard work and dedication to ensure that
we all “Remember Cardillo”.
I want to thank Emmanuel Rossi and Sebastian Bonanno for all of their tireless dedication and hard work.
They, along with the rest of the dinner-dance committee have been planning this event for months and they
are the reason why it is always so successful. I also want to thank Sal Ferrante and Dyanne Marzano for their
outstanding work on our journal. It is no easy task to put together a dinner-dance journal, but they get it done every year and it always looks great. Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank John DelGaudio for over-
seeing the entire process and ensuring that it runs smoothly.
Friday, June 10 is our Annual Golf Outing at Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course. If you haven’t signed up to
play, please contact Dyanne Marzano or Louie Balsamo. Our Fishing Trip is on Friday, June 17 out Sheeps-
head Bay. Contact Anthony Cannata or Chris Pizzo for more information. Flyers for both of these events can
be found in this newsletter and online at www.nypdcolumbia.org.
Our Sixteenth Annual Cigar Event will take place on Friday, July 29 at New York City’s Club Macanudo.
Tickets for this event will sell out quickly so don’t wait. No tickets will be sold at the door, so be sure to get
your tickets in advance. Don’t get left out!
As you can see, we have quite a few things going on here at Columbia. I want to take this opportunity to
thank the entire Board of Officers for all of the hard work they do to make this organization successful. I also
want to thank our members for being part of this tremendous fraternal organization. Please take the time to
promote our organization and to help recruit new members. I look forward to seeing you at one of our many
upcoming events.
Fino alla prossima volta, Ciao.

Hello Columbia Members,
On March 15th Life member repre-
sentative Philip Repaci attended the
80th anniversary of the murder of
Ptl. Dinoisio Pasquarella of the 75
Pct. He was invited by PO. Frank Vera
of the 75 who put the remembrance
together. Frank also had the circum-
stances of the killing of PTL.
Pasquarella mounted on a large post-
er board for all to view during the
changing of the late and day tours.
The 75 was gracious in providing cof-
fee and bagels to all. A job well done
by PO. Frank Vera. Also in
attendance was Columbia Delegate
Detective Vito Nicoletta of the 75
Squad. Detective Nicoletta is past
honoree of The Columbia Associa-
tion.
Till next time….RJ Coleman
