NZIPP President

connection. emotion. intrigue. context. texture. compulsion. story. time and place. colour pallet. layering.….

these were just a few of the words i got to write down while i was watching the print judging take place. things that i need to take into consideration for my entries next year. it’s all there in the prints that have won awards. the images are simply spectacular. they go way beyond any common snapshot a member of the public would shoot. that is what we must do to push ourselves and stand out from the crowd to survive in a world bombarded with images.

congratulations to all the award winners. i hope your business’s will grow as a result of your success.

thank you to all who have attended the infocus conference. it has been a hugely successful event. we know you have all been challenged to grow your business in ways that you never thought possible and been given some tools and the inspiration to blow your clients away with mind-blowing creativity.

and as steve and Jen Bebb said – you should all go home and consider “what if…..”

Introduction

NZIPP Honours Council

this year’s iris awards in rotorua turned out to be one of the best in years. this was not because of the number of entrants or the number of images entered, but because of the nature of the event itself. the large number of members who turned up to listen to the judging were rewarded with the best education ever. the debates were lively and articulate, and the scores reflected the passion given by both the entrants and the judges.

in all there were 508 awards achieved from eleven categories - 24 of which were gold, 135 silver, and 349 bronze.

as a result of the 2011 awards there was one new Fellow achieved, and seven bars to the Fellow – two of which were double bars. in addition 14 new Masters were awarded, as well as 6 bars to Masters, and 14 new associates.

running an event such as this is not possible without the support of many. we would like to thank all those involved in making this a successful event. this included the Ucol students and lecturers, who once again provided the much valued and appreciated behind the scenes support with all the print handling.

commiserations to those who did not achieve an award, and congratulations to those who did. we encourage you to keep entering the iris awards, and use this as an opportunity to further challenge yourself and gain merits within the nZipp Honours system. this also provides you with a great marketing and promotional opportunity with any successes earned.
