REQUEST A PERSONAL COPY OF THE HERITAGE MISSAL 2021: In an effort to keep our faith community safe and healthy, we’re inviting parishioners to request their own personal copies of The Heritage Missal 2021 for use at home or in the church for the entire

liturgical year. Join us for each celebration and continue to actively participate in the liturgy. The cost of each Missal is $20.00. This pays for the missalette, shipping, and helps defray COVID-19 compliance costs. To place your order, complete an order form found in the church vestibule, download and print the electronic version of the form from the Church website, www.ourladyofvictory.cc, or pick a form up at the Parish Office. Return your order form with payment to the basket in the church vestibule, mail the form to Our Lady of Victory, 1559 Roxbury Road, Columbus OH 43212 or drop it off at the Parish Office. To minimize contact, you may place the order form in the secure mailbox to the right of the office entrance. Make checks out to Our Lady of Victory with "Personal Missal" written in the memo section.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES CHRISTMAS HELP: This annual collection allows the diocese to meet a variety of basic needs directly and through diocesan agencies and organizations including J.O.I.N. (Joint Organization for Inner-City Needs), St. Stephen’s Community House, Catholic Social Services, St. Francis Center, St. Lawrence Haven, St. Vincent Family Center, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. COVID-19 has increased the demand for help from these agencies. You can help share in this important work by generously supporting the Catholic Charities collection this year. Look for the envelope in your December packet.

ERIN CORDLE , DIOCESAN HOPE TASK FORCE

During Advent, we are reminded of a voice “calling in thewilderness prepare the way of the LORD!” (Isaiah 40:3) Isaiah 40can be an alarm clock after the rhythm of Ordinary Time towake us up. It can be a jolt awakening – a middle of the nightcrash that makes us sit up in bed and look around. It mightscare us a little, maybe even make us gasp, but it definitelymakes us notice our surroundings. Advent entices all of oursenses because the Spirit is moving and preparing the way ofthe Lord.

Isaiah 40 references the Israelites in exile in Babylonia. Thepeople are desperately hoping for a joyful return to theirhomeland – to a more normal life again. Amidst their burnoutand fatigue, they hear God who comforts them with the promiseof liberation and restoration. Many of us also are experiencingburnout, fatigue, pain, or suffering. Much like those exiled inBabylonia, we may feel like giving up as we may not realizehow close hope is.

I find it no coincidence that Advent follows busy seasons formany of us: the start of a new school year, the election season,Thanksgiving, fall sports, and numerous other timecommitments – even in this COVID-19 environment. We haven’tbeen wandering around aimlessly during Ordinary Time, but wemay have settled into more ordinary routines. Advent lets uslook around and have opportunities to hear God as weapproach the birth of Jesus. There are sacred and powerfulreminders of God’s comfort all around us during Advent – allwe need to do is lean in and watch. Hope and help is closerthan it seems to be.

"Be merciful tome, Lord, for I am

in distress; myeyes grow weakwith sorrow, my

soul and body withgrief…But I trust

in you, Lord; I say,'You are my God.'My times are in

your hands." (Psalm 31:10, 15)

YOU ARE NOTALONE.

Advent also provides us with opportunities to see our own pain and

suffering, and the pain and suffering of those around us. It’s a good time

to seek comfort and provide comfort. For many, it may be easier to offer

help than to seek it. Nevertheless, there are tangible resources available

to those of us who are experiencing despair, isolation, addiction, mental

and physical health issues. Check out the diocesan Season of Hope

website at: www.columbuscatholic.org/season-of-hope.

“We have realized that we are on the same boat, all of us fragile and

disoriented, but at the same time important and needed, all of us called

to row together, each of us in need of comforting the other.” (Pope

Francis, Meditation during Urbi Et Orbi Blessing. Friday, March 27th,

2020).

The ultimate hope of Christ’s unending Kingdom and the reality that we

all are living in tension, reminds us that, “for God all things are possible.”

(Mt 19:26) When God shows up and we show up, we are a part of the

hope and healing that this world needs so desperately.

God is here. Christ is coming! Christ is near. Christ is with us because a

voice cries out, “Prepare the way of the Lord!”

Advent is a time of preparation. It also can be a time to stopand reflect in a quiet, calm space.

Reflect:- What causes you pain, anxiety, or a sense of beingdisconnected?- Imagine God is speaking words of hope and healing to you. What is God saying?- Where is there hope and healing in the form of directservice in your community?- Is there a person in your life you can help to find hope andhealing?

DECEMBER’S SEASON OF HOPE MONTHLY TOPIC: Seek Direct Service – Patience: Many of our brothers and sisters suffer from addiction. Those carrying such crosses deserve our compassion, support, and a promise of new hope and a future worthy of human dignity. God’s love and mercy removes the darkness and enables us to see life in a whole new light. To defeat the chains of addiction, we must live in a new light and find courage in how Jesus took up His cross and achieved victory over death. Jesus is the incarnate light. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12. Advent involves our patient waiting for the dawning of the light, Christ Jesus. Visit the following resources for addiction support services and more information: https://www.columbuscatholic.org/season-of-hopehttps://www.columbuscatholic.org/social-concerns-office.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 6, 2020

FROM THE PASTOR:

• This Tuesday, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patroness of the United States. Originating in the 7th century as “Conception of Mary by St. Anne,” the Immaculate Conception of Mary is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church, meaning that it is held to be a truth divinely revealed. Defined by Pope Pius IX in Ineffabilis Deus, 1854, it states that Mary, through God’s grace, was conceived free from the stain of original sin in the womb of her mother, St. Anne, through Mary’s role as the Mother of God. Many Catholics, as well as others, confuse the dogma of the “Immaculate Conception” with that of the “virgin birth,” i.e., Mary conceiving Jesus in her womb by the Holy Spirit and not through physical intercourse with St. Joseph, her husband. It is a Holy Day of Obligation although the obligation is dispensed due to COVID conditions. We will have two Masses on Tuesday, our usual holyday schedule, with Mass at 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The weekly parish Holy Hour with Exposition will take place prior to the second Mass beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confessions will be available from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and for a half hour after morning and evening Mass.

• There is another beautiful feast of the Blessed Mother this week on December 10: Our Lady of Loreto. Recently added by Pope Francis to the Roman Calendar, the Memorial of Our Lady of Loreto recalls the mystery of the Incarnation. Since the middle ages, veneration of the Holy House of Loreto has powerfully illustrated the evangelical virtues of the Holy Family. A Marian Litany, also known as the Litany of Loreto, has its first known origins at the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto (Italy). The shrine is about a 90-minute drive from my grandparents' hometown in Italy. I have visited the Shrine several times. Hopefully after the pandemic, I will be able to lead a pilgrimage to Italy and will include a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto.

• St. John Paul II began a tradition early on in his papacy where he invited the children of Rome to assemble in St. Peter’s Square on the Third Sunday of Advent during his Angelus address. He asked them to bring their little statue of the baby Jesus that would be placed in their Nativity set at home.John Paul II blessed the figurines of those present and told them to assemble before the manger scene with their family in a spirit of prayer:As I bless your little statues, beloved children, I think with serene hope of you, of the immense good that you can do, precisely because you are little, within your family, the school, the Associations, and society itself. Not for nothing did Jesus himself choose you as models for those who wish to have a part in his Kingdom (cf. Mt 18:4; Mk 10: 15). Take home, with great care, the little statue of the Infant Jesus, also as a sign of the Pope’s love for you and your families. Put it in your Crib with intense faith, with that faith wherewith the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God, laid the new-born Jesus in the manger (cf. Lk 2:7). Invite your father, your mother, your brothers and sisters, the whole of your family, to gather round the Crib in these days of the Christmas Novena, to recite together the prayers learned on your mother’s lap, to sing the sweet carols, so charged with human and Christian sentiment. May the Infant Jesus, present in the Crib of your home, be the concrete sign of a limpid and sincere faith, which will enlighten, guide and direct your life and that of your dear ones. Both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis have continued the tradition, and in recent years it has started to expand to other places outside of Rome.It is a beautiful Advent tradition, one that sanctifies the home with the baby Jesus and makes His arrival in the manger scene an even more joyous event. We invite the children of OLV next weekend (Gaudete Sunday) to bring their infant Jesus from their home Nativity sets to be blessed at all the weekend Masses.

• Hopefully, all registered parishioners of OLV have received the Thanksgiving/Advent mailing by now. If you did not, please contact the parish office by email or phone during regular office hours.

PARISH REGISTRATIONPlease contact the Parish Office to register or to change your address or status.

Parish registration consists of two parts:

Registration: Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be a part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. We are often asked to provide affidavits for parishioners’ standings. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member in our parish.

Participation: As a member of your Parish, you are accepting the responsibility of weekly worship as well as supporting God’s work here through giving of yourself, your time and talents, and a worthy Sunday offering to show your love of God and your gratitude for His many favors and blessings.
