Each Gospel had a symbol in the middle age. Luke was given an ox as a symbol because he starts his book with Zachariah offering sacrifices in the Temple with these animals, which means that Christians should be ready to sacrifice themselves in order to follow Christ.

Symbol: Winged Ox
