29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Theme: Give back to God what belongs to God
Today’s gospel (Matthew 22: 15-21) tells about “Give back to Caesar what belongs to
Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.” These words are said by Jesus in answer to a
question asked to Him. Caesar was the Roman leader who was in power and ruling over
the Jews. Because they were under his rule, they had to pay taxes to him. He was a
stranger, and the Jews hated him. They did not like to pay taxes but they had little choice
about it, so they obeyed. But, the Jewish leaders wanted to trap Jesus and they asked
Him the question. “Is it possible to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Jesus was aware that they wanted to trap Him, and He knew that they had already solved
this question themselves because they already had in their pockets the special coins to
pay their taxes. So, Jesus tells them simply to give back to the Roman leader what is his;
their coins of Roman money for the taxes. But he adds to give also to God what is His.
We are not under the rule of a Roman leader, but Jesus’ words are important to us as
well. What does He mean when He asks us to “Give to God what belongs to God”? We
can ask ourselves, “What belongs to God.” God has created the world and all that is in it.
And we ourselves have been made by Him. As our Creator He deserves our praise. To
Him belong honor and glory forever and ever, amen.
God is also the giver of all the good things we enjoy. All the gifts and blessings that He
pours out on us, day after day, come from Him. To Him belong our gratitude and thanks-
giving. God is also our Father who watches over us, protects us, cares for all our needs.
He loves us and forgives us our failing. He deserves our trust and our love in return.

29º Domingo en Tiempo Ordinario
Tema: : Devuelve a Dios lo que pertenece a Dios
El evangelio de hoy (Mateo 22: 15-21) dice acerca de "Devuelve al César lo que
pertenece a César, ya Dios lo que pertenece a Dios". Estas palabras son dichas por Jesús
en respuesta a una pregunta que se le hace. César era el líder romano que estaba en el
poder y gobernaba a los judíos. Debido a que estaban bajo su dominio, tenían que
pagarle impuestos. Era un extraño y los judíos lo odiaban. No les gustaba pagar
impuestos, pero tenían pocas opciones al respecto, así que obedecieron. Pero, los líderes
judíos querían atrapar a Jesús y le hicieron la pregunta. "¿Es posible pagar impuestos a
César o no?"
Jesús era consciente de que querían atraparlo y sabía que ellos mismos ya habían
resuelto esta pregunta porque ya tenían en sus bolsillos las monedas especiales para
pagar sus impuestos. Entonces, Jesús les dice que simplemente le devuelvan al líder
romano lo que es suyo; Sus monedas de dinero romano por los impuestos. Pero agrega
para también dar a Dios lo que es Suyo.
No estamos bajo la regla de un líder romano, pero las palabras de Jesús también son
importantes para nosotros. ¿Qué quiere decir cuando nos pide "dar a Dios lo que
pertenece a Dios"? Podemos preguntarnos: "Lo que pertenece a Dios". Dios ha creado el
mundo y todo lo que hay en él. Y nosotros mismos hemos sido creados por él. Como
nuestro Creador, Él merece nuestra alabanza. A él pertenecen el honor y la gloria para
siempre jamás, amen
Dios también es el dador de todas las cosas buenas que disfrutamos. Todos los dones y
bendiciones que Él derrama sobre nosotros, día tras día, provienen de él. A él pertenecen
nuestra gratitud y acción de gracias. Dios es también nuestro Padre quien vela por
nosotros, nos protege, cuida todas nuestras necesidades. Él nos ama y nos perdona

Miremos por un momento todo lo que somos y tenemos. Estamos
vivos y nuestra propia vida proviene de Dios. Nuestra salud, de
mente y cuerpo, también es de Él. Nos ha dado inteligencia, para
conocer y comprender las cosas. Nuestro recuerdo, para recordar
personas y eventos. Él nos ha dado a cada uno de nosotros
diferentes cualidades y habilidades para hacer las cosas. La
educación que hemos recibido, las posesiones que son nuestras, son
solo algunas de sus bendiciones para nosotros.
Los niños con los que nos ha bendecido, nuestra maravillosa
comunidad de fe (OLGC), nuestros fieles amigos y vecinos útiles
también son un regalo de su propia fidelidad. La ayuda que
recibimos cuando la necesitábamos. El éxito que ha llenado
nuestros esfuerzos. Y piense también en el daño que ha mantenido
alejado de nosotros y de nuestra familia. Las dificultades que nos ha
permitido superar. Todo esto, y mucho más es y ha sido posible
gracias a Él.
En este punto, viene la pregunta; "¿Le damos a Dios lo que
pertenece a Dios?" ¿Qué pensaría si un día, la escoba que tiene en la
mano para barrer le diga: "puedo barrer"? O si la llave de tuercas
que estás usando para cambiar el neumático de tu auto dice: "Puedo
hacer el trabajo". Te sorprenderías y pensarías a ti mismo:
"Tonterías". Pero, ¿no es un poco lo que hacemos? ¿con Dios?
¿No sucede muy a menudo que tomemos todo el crédito por lo que
hacemos? ¿Nos fijamos en nuestras habilidades? ¿No buscamos
elogios cuando hemos tenido éxito en algo? Cuántos de nosotros
somos lo suficientemente honestos como para decir: "El Señor me
ha dado esto" O "Dios me lo ha hecho posible". O bien, "he logrado
porque Dios ha ayudado". Si puede hacerse estas preguntas y
responderlas, definitivamente la forma en que pensamos y actuamos
cambiará automáticamente. Tendrás una nueva visión para la vida.
De hecho, esto le está dando a Dios lo que pertenece a Dios, para
aceptar que todo lo que soy y todo lo que tengo es su don. Y usar
sus dones de una manera agradable para él. Usar sus dones para el
bien de los demás, no solo para mi propio beneficio. En una de sus
cartas a los primeros cristianos, San Pablo escribió: "¿Qué tienes
que no has recibido? Y si lo has recibido, ¿por qué te jactas como si
no lo hubieras recibido? "
Quizás, esta semana que viene, todos podamos mirar más de cerca
de lo que nos jactamos, y ver si no es exactamente algo que hemos
recibido ... y que lo hemos recibido ... de Dios. Y demos a Dios lo
que le pertenece a Dios, la gratitud y la alabanza que Él merece de
nosotros.

Let us look for a moment at all that we are and have. We are
alive and our very life comes from God. Our health, of mind
and body, is also from Him. He has given us intelligence, to
know and understand things. Our memory, to remember
people and events. He has given to each one of us different
qualities and abilities to do things. The education we have
received, the possessions that are ours, are only some of His
blessings to us.
The children he has blessed us with, our wonderful commu-
nity of faith (OLGC), our faithful friends and helpful
neighbors are also a gift from His own faithfulness. The help
we received when we needed it. The success that has
crowned our efforts. And think also of the harm he has kept
away from us and our family. The difficulties he has enabled
us to overcome. All this, and much more is and has been
possible because of Him.
At this point, the question comes: “Do we give to God what
belongs to God”? What would you think if, one day, the
broom you hold in your hand for sweeping would tell you: “I
can sweep”? Or, if the lug wrench you are using to change
the tire of your car said: “I can do the job.” You would be
amazed and you would think to yourself: “Nonsense.” But is
it not a little what we do with God?
Does it not happen very often that we take all the credit for
what we do? Do we look at our abilities? Do we not look for
praise when we have succeeded in something? How many of
us are honest enough to say: “The Lord has given this to
me.” Or, “God has made it possible for me.” Or again, “I
have managed because God has helped.” If can ask yourself
these questions and answer them, definitely the way we
think and act will automatically change. You will have new
vision for life.
This is indeed giving to God what belongs to God, to agree
that all I am and and all I have is His gift. And to use His
gifts in a way pleasing to Him. To use His gifts for the good
of others, not only for my own advantage. In one of his let-
ters to the first Christians, St. Paul wrote: “What do you
have that you have not received? And if you have received
it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”
Perhaps, this coming week, we could all have a closer look
at what we boast about, and see if it is not exactly something
that we have received… and that we have received it… from
God. And let us give to God what belongs to God, the grati-
tude and praise He deserves from us.

World Mission Sunday
This Weekend, October 21-22
A Second Collection to support the
missionary work of the Society of the Propaga-
tion of the Faith
The Catholic Church is a missionary church. Although we
often think of the missions in foreign lands, in reality each
one of us becomes a missionary at Baptism. We are called to
share our Catholic faith with others.
The needs of the church in the developing world are many.
The church is growing in Africa and parts of Asia. The
church of Latin America, traditionally Catholic countries,
needs your prayers and financial support to continue its work.
Men and women, religious and lay, go from our country to
bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to peoples throughout
the world. They also help people who live in poor situations
to improve their lives. We thank you for your support to the
Missions in this weekend’s second collection

DISCOVERING CHRIST Discovering Christ is coming . It is a seven-week experience
where all are invited to hear the Good News and personally en-
counter Jesus Christ. Please register to become a participant. We
meet on Tuesday evenings in the auditorium for 7 weeks. Enjoy
a meal and meet some wonderful people. This session will begin
November 7 . If you are interested , we will have sign up sheets
in the back of the church and the parish office. You may also

FAITHFUL DECEASED On Thursday, November 2 we will celebrate 2 Memorial Masses for all our dear departed, especially those whose funer-als were celebrated in our church. English Mass will be cele-brated at 12:00 PM and in Spanish will be at 7:30 PM. Everyone is invited!

Este Fin de Semana, 21 y 22 de Octubre
habrá una Segunda Colecta para apoyar el
trabajo misionero de la Sociedad de
Propagación de Fe
La Iglesia Católica es una iglesia misionera. Aunque
a menudo creemos en las misiones en tierras
extranjeras, en la realidad, cada uno de nosotros nos
convertimos en misioneros al ser bautizados. Somos
llamados a compartir nuestra fe católica con los
demás.
Las necesidades de la iglesia en el mundo en
desarrollo son muchas. La iglesia está creciendo en
África y partes de Asia. La iglesia de Latino
América, países tradicionalmente católicos, necesitan
sus oraciones y apoyo financiero para continuar sus
trabajos.
Hombres y mujeres, religiosos y laicos, van de país
en país para llevar la Buena Nueva de Jesucristo a
gentes a través del mundo. Ellos también ayudan a
personas que viven en situaciones pobres, a mejorar
sus vidas. Gracias por su apoyo a las Misiones en la
segunda colecta del próximo fin de semana.

CELEBRACIÓN DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE
GUADALUPE Nuestra Cofradía Guadalupana inició el rezo
del rosario en los hogares en preparación para
la celebración de la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de
Guadalupe.
El grupo trae la imagen de la Virgen, reza el rosario y ora
con la familia y sus invitados. La imagen se queda en el
hogar de la familia esa noche y después continúa su
peregrinaje con la próxima familia.
Si usted desea invitar el grupo a su hogar, favor de
