St ack [email protected] Math; LA: Ms. Bruer [email protected] Social Studies; LA: Mrs. Kintner [email protected] Resource: Mrs. Main [email protected] Instructional : Mrs. Blue [email protected] TEAM AGENDA WEBSITE CURRENTLY LEARNING Lit/Comp - This week, we will review Reading Workshop norms & protocols and begin our read-aloud books: selected novels from April Henry, who will be visiting PJHS this November! Science - This week, students will engage in the Engineering Design Process with a Peppermint Racer Challenge. Students will also prove what they know about criteria and constraints with a quiz on Friday. Algebra - Students will continue to analyze functions this week. Students will identify the domain and range of a function. There will be an Identifying Functions Quiz on Wednesday (8/29). Math 8 - Students will begin Unit 1 by solving two-step equations. Students can work on IXL W.6 and W.7. Social Studies - This week we will continue Industrialization. We will do some of our first formative assessments over our Guiding Questions and will do a document-based analysis by looking at primary sources from the time period. Language Arts - Students will begin the How Writers Work Unit. They will set goals based on their writing benchmark and will begin to look at how their interests can be used as inspiration for their writing. Lit/Comp This month, we will move from nonfiction Collaborative Reasoning to fiction, focusing on text structure and author's craft in book clubs. Students will read a common book and come to meetings prepared to discuss what they've read. As always, students are expected to read their independent novel for 20 minutes each day! Science Students recently completed models of the Earth-moon-sun system to reflect the reasons for the lunar cycle, eclipses and seasons. This week we began our Natural Selection Unit. In this unit we will observe traits of different populations and construct models and arguments for why traits of populations can change over time. Algebra In Algebra, we just finished Unit #5, which covered how to solve a system of linear inequalities. Students worked independently through this unit by completing slides and t asks. Math 8 Math 8 will be looking at scatter plots and their types of association. Students will be creating scatter plots and analyzing data. Students will conduct their own research on a topic and create a scatter plot based on the information that they collected. Social Studies We are finishing our 1920s unit this week. We will begin our unit on the Great Depression, looking at causes, impact, the Dust Bowl, the New Deal, and more! Language Arts Students will be working on all different types of argumentative writing, focusing on making claims, supporting with evidence and reasoning, addressing the counterclaim, and coming up with a rubuttal.
