Where we are, Part 3! I am happy to indicate that many parish groups have begun (on their own) to merge their membership. The local Knights of Columbus have received final approval from their headquarters to form one organization for the area. The St. Vincent DePaul societies have done the same. The Christian Mothers and Women’s’ Guild have merged and have already begun their new year as a single entity. There have been visible efforts of volunteerism seen in the workers and participants at the St. Margaret Festival in June and the Ss. Simon & Jude event in July. We are blessed with a music program that has been the first “bridge” to our unity. Cantors who are parishioners have rotated as have the organists and even the choirs. The musical “wealth” is definitely being shared among the three church sites. The 210 Choir and the Contemporary group move from place to place and share their talents. The Faith Formation programs have merged and are off to a great start. The program is offered for the convenience of the children and parents on two nights. The Ss. Simon & Jude building as well as the St. Elizabeth Seton Bayley building are used. We no longer share the use of St. Margaret’s school. That plan will assure that the SMOS teachers will not have anyone using their classrooms and, in the converse, the faith formation faculty will be able at both SSJ and SEAS to “own” their classrooms in arrangement and decoration. At this time, not knowing the future of St. Margaret School-how it may figure into a regionalization process- it seemed best to keep the school in use for only the school program. Additionally, the arrangement of the St. Margaret school day program classrooms would have to be altered to accommodate the large numbers of students in the Faith Formation program. A new youth minister has been hired and will focus his efforts on the young people in all three parishes and in the St. Margaret School. He will also make an effort to initiate a “young adult” group for the 20+ members of the parishes. The telephone system has been installed and is being tweaked so that it meets the purpose for which I planned it. We now provide ONE phone number through which you will reach any staff member, no matter where he or she is located, including the priests. As mentioned, in the bulletin, the process has not been easy as the buildings are in some cases antiquated and needed small upgrades to make the more modern phone systems possible. A highly successful picnic was enjoyed by 538 folks from all three parishes in September. It was an opportunity to mingle and talk about the future. It is hoped that more social activities will be planned as financial support becomes available. Next week…”Where, with the grace of God, we hope to be!”

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION | 2 CORINTHIANS 5:19

Beloved: I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. At my first defense no one appeared on my behalf,

but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them! But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, and entrusting to us the message of salvation.

The LORD is a God of justice, who knows no favorites. Though not unduly partial toward the weak, yet he hears the cry of the oppressed. The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan, nor to the widow when she pours out her complaint. The one who serves God willingly is heard;

his petition reaches the heavens. The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest till it reaches its goal, nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds, judges justly and affirms the right, and the Lord will not delay.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

THE ORDER OF MASS

PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven, (All bow at the following bolder words) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

GOSPEL | LUKE 18:9-14 Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else. "Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity --

greedy, dishonest, adulterous -- or even like this tax collector.

I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.' But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.' I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

COMMUNION HYMN | DRAW NEAR

1. Draw near and take the Body of the Lord, and drink with faith the Blood for you outpoured. Saved by Christ’s Body and his holy Blood, with souls refreshed we give our thanks to God. 2. Christ, our Redeemer, God’s eternal Son, has by his cross and blood the vict’ry won. He spent his life for greatest and for least. Praise Christ, the Paschal Victim, Christ the Priest.

3. Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere and claim the promise of salvation here. Christ rules our hearts, and all his saints defends; he gives believers life that never ends. 4. With heav’nly bread Christ makes the hungry whole; his living water fills the thirsting soul. Alpha – Omega, unto whom shall bow all nations of the earth, be with us now.

ENCOUNTER GOD. BELIEVE HE LOVES YOU. LET HIM CHANGE YOUR LIFE. THEN, WE DANCE PARTY.

ON MISSION! Let’s not leave last week’s canonization of St. John Henry Newman too quickly, for he has a lot to offer to those of us who hear the call of evangelization in our Church. From this, one of his most popular writings, it seems that he, like us, was “on mission for the Church Alive”!

“God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments...”

Let’s keep in mind that God has a plan for each of us to live out His mission for our lives!

St. John Henry Newman, pray for us!

IN GRATITUDE —from Fr. Grecco

Special thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to make the “Food Truck Fridays” possible at SSJ. Peg Sembrat and Ron Bruno took my request for a new fundraiser and “ran with it.” Paul Marcinizyn, SSJ maintenance, prepared the set-up and fire pits each week. The evenings became more than an opportunity for raising money—they were “block parties” for the parish and the neighborhood.

Special appreciation to Rege Reaghard, SEAS maintenance, for the beautiful “carrier” he made for the recent Rosary march. The carrier made it possible to bring along a decorated statue of the Blessed Mother (thanks to Ms. Linda Gerrity) in our procession.

Now just $25!!! Limited scholarships available!

SERVICE SATURDAY Serve a neighbor in need in our community! Saturday, November 9.

Teens: Meet at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 12:30 p.m. Transportation provided to the service project location, then to Ss. Simon and Jude for Strobe Light Dodgeball! See the ad for Strobe Light Dodgeball on the next page. You have to be there! Bring your friends!

RESPECTS LIFE... in October, and All Year Long!

“Since God surely loves the poor, he also loves those who love the poor.” ~ Pope Francis

As a Catholic Community, we of CGS have many ways that we ‘love the poor’, both those in our midst and those beyond. Our Knights of Columbus raise funds for the SVdP Food Pantry, and more.

In addition to giving the majority of their fundraising monies to the Pastor to use for the parish at his discretion, the Christian Mothers and Women’s Guild also donates to the SVdP Food Pantry and helps families in need at Christmas. Our Ladies of Charity and our St. Vincent de Paul Conference both have ministry to the poor as their whole reason for existing. In CGS we do this via making blankets and mats for the homeless, providing Christmas gifts for low-income children and adults, running the two food pantries in our Grouping, and doing home visits to those in need in order to determine best ways of helping them with the donations received from parishioners, businesses, and others.

Sock drives, school supply drives, diaper drives, bundle drives —- all are aimed toward helping those who don’t have the expendable income to cover all of their needs.

If you’re not already donating to these groups and causes, please consider doing so! If you’re not already volunteering in the groups and ministries, come join in on the fun!

“All life has inestimable value, even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn, and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.” ~ Pope Francis

BISHOP BARRON’S: THE MASS Our small group study of Bishop Robert Barron’s dvd series of The Mass continues this Thursday at 1:00 in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Room at SEAS Church. All are welcome, and each week covers a different part of the Mass, so come to whichever sessions you are able to! Bishop Barron is an amazing teacher...you’re bound to learn something new, as well as fall more deeply in love with the Mass and with our beautiful Catholic faith. Bring your own lunch!

They whom we love and lose are no longer

where they were before. They are now wherever we are.

-St. John Chrysostom

We will begin the month of November with the Solemnity of All Saints and the

Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Soul’s Day). We should take great comfort in the belief we profess in the Communion of Saints. Throughout the month of November, please make a special commitment to pray for the faithful departed of our families and our parishes. Many of us save remembrance cards from funeral home visitations. Consider taking your remembrance cards out this month and praying intentionally each day of November for the repose of the soul of one of your dearly departed family members or friends. Pray especially for those who have no one to pray for them.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. May their souls and the souls of

all the faithful departed, Through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.

ANNUAL MEMORIAL MASSES On Sunday, November 3, 2019, the last Mass at each of our CGS parishes will be celebrated as our annual Memorial Mass. This annual effort to remember ‘All Souls’, and most especially those from our parishes, serves as a way to honor our deceased loved ones, as well as to remind us that we pray collectively daily for all of those who have gone before us, and should be praying individually for them as well. At these Masses we especially remember, by name, those buried from our individual parishes in the past year. However, this Mass is a prayer of remembrance for ANYONE who has passed from death into life, and is meant for any of you who are grieving the loss of a loved one, whether during this past year or long ago, whether buried from our parish or not, whether a miscarriage or loss to you in another way, whether you are related by blood or not related at all to the one you miss. If you are grieving the loss of someone special, please consider coming to pray with us, and having your personal offering at Mass be for your loved one, and receive the gift of consolation available to you here. Let us all pray together for those who have preceded us in death. Sunday, November 3, 2019: 10:30 a.m. at SMOS, 11:00 at SSJ, and 11:30 at SEAS. All are welcome! LIFE IS CHANGED, NOT ENDED…

SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL The St. Margaret of Scotland Scrip Program (Purchasing Gift Card to benefit the school) is coming to SEAS! These are the same gift cards you see in stores that you normally purchase to give to others, or spend on yourself. You can even purchase Giant Eagle gift cards to buy gift cards at Giant Eagle (if you don’t want to miss your fuel perks!). Look for us at SEAS after the Masses on November 2/3 and November 16/17. We will also be there on November 30/ December 1 and December 14/15. Come over to our table and check out all we have to offer! See a list of our gift cards, buy some Sarris Candy Bars or raffle tickets to win gift cards! Please note that during those weekends gift cards will not be sold at St. Margaret of Scotland (until we can train more people to help sell cards). Gift Cards will also be sold in the school lobby on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and in December from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Large order? Contact Tasha Leslie: [email protected]

JOIN US All are invited to join the Living Room Church/ Faith Sharing group which meets at St. Margaret's parish office at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday mornings as we read and discuss Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato si," ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME. Children’s Liturgy of the Word will begin next Sunday, November 3, 2019 at St. Margaret of Scotland during the 10:30 a.m. Mass. “CLW” will be held once a month for all the children (grades K - 4) in our grouping and will travel to SMOS, SEAS, and SSJ throughout the year. Families are encouraged to travel to each of the churches where CLW will be conducted each month. Adult volunteers are needed to help assist with CLW; Safe Environment clearances are necessary prior to assisting. LRC Are you being called to grow deeper in your faith? Are you ready to allow the Word of God to renew and refresh you in your daily life in Christ? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, you are ready to proceed to the next step: take an active role in the Living Room Church! What is the Living Room Church? The Living Room Church is US, very simply, acting as the first disciples of Jesus did, meeting in small groups in people’s homes to read scripture, sharing fellowship and growing spiritually with others, and fulfilling the characteristics of a truly devoted follower of Christ. This is certainly not a new concept: it has been around over 2,000 years! Some people are already in the loop of having weekly or bi-weekly bible studies (Living Room Church Meetings) in each other’s homes for 60-90 minutes. If you are already a leader/facilitator of a LRC meeting, please let me know who you are and when/where you meet, so that I can support you in any way I can with materials, ideas, and most importantly, prayers. I know there are many groups out there that are in full swing.

If you feel that you are receiving the call to become a leader/facilitator of a LRC group, I invite you to come to a “Next Steps” meeting on Tuesday, October 29, October in the Cry Room at St. Margaret of Scotland Church immediately after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. If you are thinking about this, but are nervous, scared, excited, feel inadequate, want to do it but are too busy, working, over-committed, not holy enough, or not qualified, this meeting is for you, too. Please give me a call or send me an email if you plan to attend, or if you are interested and cannot attend due to day/time restraints.

If you feel compelled to be involved but choose not to be a leader/facilitator, that is okay; we also need participants. We need prayers and pray-ers: people who want to pray and get closer to Jesus on their journey to everlasting life. If you would like to be informed of times and dates that LRC meetings are held, please call or email Karen with days and times that you are available for meetings.

Please see back of the bulletin for current contact information.

ST. MARGARET SCHOOL

CLASSROOM CHRONICLES Each week we will highlight the amazing things that are going on in our classrooms here at St. Margaret of Scotland School.

Mrs. Jaclyn Walsh – 4th Grade The 4th Grade has had a wonderful start to the school year! In Math, students have been learning more in depth about place value and adding numbers in the millions place with three or more addends with regrouping. During Religion, our Unit 1 has focused on how we grow in Jesus Christ. Students are learning how they are able to live as disciples of Jesus even at their age. It amazes me each day their enthusiasm to help others and seeing it firsthand how they are living out Jesus’ mission. Our class has also been utilizing the new STREAM lab for Science class and teamwork challenges. One of the students’ favorite activities they have done so far was creating a single cell model using Jell-O and different types of candy. This was a delicious investigation!

FIRE PREVENTION We want to thank the Green Tree Volunteer Fire Department for coming to our school and talking with our students about fire safety. The students learned a lot from these firefighters and also got to sit in a fire truck!

TEACHER SPOTLIGHTS Each week we will spotlight one of our outstanding teachers at St. Margaret of Scotland School.

Mr. Nicholas Garofalo – 5th Grade My name is Nick Garofalo. I currently live in a suburb of Pittsburgh with my wife, Sarah and our dog, Sadie. I grew up in South Park, PA with my immediate family of my father, mother and two younger sisters. I graduated from South Park High School in 2009. There I played football and baseball. As a freshman, I was on our state champion football team. I met my wife, Sarah, at South Park High School. We have been together for 10 years now and our first-year marriage anniversary was in August of 2019. South Park has been great to me. With that said, I had many influential teachers along the way on becoming the teacher I am today. I come from a very large Italian family. I am very proud of my heritage and continue to keep traditions alive for the years ahead. I completed my undergrad at Duquesne University. I am certified to teach Elementary Education PreK-6. I am currently enrolled in a Master's Program, STEM Education, at California University of Pennsylvania. Making learning fun is something that I strive to do and want to continue that for years to come!
