by Karla Sanchez, Director of Programs & Communications This year's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week took place on September 12-18, 2021, and theHTA was able to kick it off at Port Pro's 1st Annual Port Fest at the Museum of Latin American Art inLong Beach, CA. The event brought truck drivers and their families together for a fun Sundayafternoon that included a mariachi band, food trucks, carnival games, raffles, and Aztec dancers.

HTA staff was happy to connect with the truck driver community in person and share importantupdates on our Trucker Advantage Program (TAP). We want to announce that our TruckerAdvantage Program will now be FREE to ALL TRUCKERS moving forward to continue thecelebrations.

The Harbor Trucking Association held its annual DrayTech conference earlier this month in sunnyLong Beach, California. The motor carrier community, and their partners, met at the Hotel Maya onSeptember 10th to see the newest developments in technology first-hand, at the forefront, was titlesponsor Envase, a family of freight technologies on a mission to digitize-drayage.

Against the backdrop of QueenswayBay, Sr. Editor at the Journal ofCommerce, Bill Mongelluzzo kicked offthe day’s panels with a discussion withport leadership from California’s majorcontainer ports: Mario Cordero of thePort of Long Beach, David Libatique ofPort of Los Angeles and BryanBrandes of Port of Oakland werepresent. The audience had theopportunity to engage with thepanelists and provided insights onrecent supply issues.

We were happy to host ErikNeandross, Chief Executive Officer ofGladstein, Neandross & Associates,who led a discussion on the future ofclean trucks with representatives fromBYD, Daimler, PACCAR, and Volvo.

Complimenting the discussion was oursix truck line up outside the exhibit hall.Alongside the OEMs represented, wehad dealerships TEC Equipment &Rush Truck Center displaying vehiclesalong with a new HTA member:Phoenix Motorcars.

The audience also got to hear from companiestransforming the way we do business. Cargomatic’sHead of Strategy, Weston LaBar led a discussion withEnvase’s Larry Cuddy, Michael Mecca of Port Pro,Walker Banks of GeoStamp, and Sean Bardon ofBlueCargo. Participants provided updates on recentdevelopments and solutions to industry challenges withintheir corresponding platform.

DrayTech had its first virtual address from FederalMaritime Commissioner Rebecca Dye. CommissionerDye updated the attendees on the FMC’s current effortsto tackle detention and demurrage and create a moreequitable supply chain.
