OAI Dean’s Committee September 1988
• “The Engineering Deans of Ohio Universities recommend that the Ohio Aerospace Institute be established to focus and continue to improve and develop the state’s strengths and capabilities to play a major role in the evolving opportunities in the aerospace field. The institute is envisioned as a strong partnership of Ohio Universities, government laboratories, and industries…”
Accelerating Innovation 10
OAI Dean’s Committee September 1988 • OAI is envisioned as a world class center devoted to aerospace related
research, graduate and continuing education and industrial assistance and technology utilization… it will:
– Provide a shared facility for the state’s academic community promoting collaborative scholarly research and training in aerospace technologies
• Research performed by full time and visiting faculty, industry guest researchers working with NASA researchers
• OAI will offer aerospace-related grad level courses… acceptable for academic credit to participating universities. OAI will not grant degrees.
• Distance learning connections to NASA, AFRL, universities, industry
• Thanks to OAI, participating universities will be able to more successfully compete for projects and funding
– Accelerate aerospace technology transfer to industry
– Promote the development and growth of high technology enterprise

Student and Faculty Development: Ohio Aerospace Internship Program • OAI’s “Ohio Aerospace Internship Program” is funded as an Ohio Third
Frontier Internship Program – now entering its 5th year • Over 100 Ohio college/university/resident students have been placed in
aerospace-focused internships throughout the State of Ohio
• OAI leverages its activities in Ohio Space Grant Consortium, NASA Internship Program to recruit and build awareness
“The Third Frontier Internship program has allowed us to accelerate our company’s progress toward getting ISO-certified. The funding provided by the state gave us the flexibility we needed to hire two interns for the summer. We got many of our manufacturing processes documented and made improvements in our automation software. The students also benefited--with experience in manufacturing and quality control to augment their resumes and guide their careers. This program is invaluable to small manufacturers like ourselves, and It provides meaningful jobs to engineering students in our universities…We were very pleased to participate, and will continue to take advantage of this program.”
