Veteran’s Day is celebrated every year on November 11th, which is the day

World War 2 ended. This celebration was first called Armistice Day. On June 10, 1954,

President Woodrow Wilson officially changed the name to Veterans Day, and made it

the legal holiday. Veterans Day is a day to honor all those who serve or served our

country protecting our way of life in the USA.

Now:

On one of the most important days of the year, Veteran’s Day, many things

went on at our assembly. Let’s start from the beginning.

At the beginning of the school day at Oak Ridge, after morning announcements, the

entire school loaded the buses and went to the high school. It was SUPER COLD!

After we unloaded the buses, we went into the High School, where it was

warm. Lots of students were there to greet us. We then entered the auditorium.

As we finished getting in the auditorium, a movie began to keep us occupied while the

Veterans prepared to be on the high school news channel.

Afterwards, the live Veteran’s Day assembly began. However, since it was on

the news channel, there was no sound for most of it, but when we saw clapping we

clapped also to show respect. They discussed the true meaning of Veteran’s Day.

The Boy Scouts did the Pledge of Allegiance, the principals of the district made

videos of appreciation, Mrs. Brown and Mr. Thompson got ahold of the Ladies

Auxiliary who got ahold of the Veterans, band had to practice their music, choir had to

practice the songs they were going to sing, the cheerleaders had to practice routines, and

student council had to release balloons and set up a welcome desk.

Much preparation and hard work went into Armistice Day assembly, now known as

Veteran’s Day.

The Most Popular Christmas Dish in America

Written by Faith L.

You want popular? Well, I will give you popular! Apparently, the most popular

Christmas dish in America seems to be good ol’ turkey. Other popular choices are ham,

potatoes, and any kind of pie. Why have turkey or ham? Well, we eat turkey for a

Christmas dinner to have a special type of meat to mark a special day, or have a big

turkey that can supply family get- to- together. Another reason why turkey is chosen,

is because it has been a part of Christmas traditions since 1526.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol is about Scrooge McDuck learning the true meaning of Christmas with a little help from three spirits. It might be the number one Christmas movie because children can have laughs and learn the true meaning of Christmas. The Polar Express is about a doubting young boy taking an extraordinary trip on a train to meet Santa Clause, and makes new friends along the way. It takes this place because kids can learn what really “happens” in the North Pole . Miracle on 34th Street is about the real Santa being hired to be a fake Santa at a Macy’s store in New York. With the help of one little girl, Santa can remember if he was the real Santa or not. This movie takes its place because it is funny that the real Santa doesn’t even realize that he’s the real Santa! Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is about one special little reindeer that has an extraordinary nose. He learns that everyone is different in their own way. This movie takes its place because of the really “cool” songs and characters. Frosty the Snowman is about a snowman that comes to life thanks to a magic top hat. Even grown-ups cannot believe their eyes. This movie takes its place because of the hilarious and adorable snowman, Frosty. When the boy tries to get to his parents, it just causes more and more trouble! This movie takes its place because of this kid’s mistakes and he’s always up to something. A Charlie Brown Christmas is about a boy named Charlie Brown, but he doesn’t know the really true meaning of Christmas. With help of his loyal friends, he learns the true meaning of Christmas. This movie takes its spot because of the humorous Charlie Brown and his dog, Snoopy. A Christmas Story is about a nine year old named Ralphie Parker. He wants only one thing for Christmas, a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. When Christmas comes, he is really disappointed when he did not get a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Watch the movie to find out if he got what he wanted, or if he lived without it. This movie takes its place because the funny things the kid tries to persuade his parents to get the gift that he wants.

Do we really have bugs living on our faces? Recently in health, I was talking to a class about shedding skin. This conversation led to talking about mites. There are two different kinds of mites that scientists know of that live on the face. Whether you have them or not seems to depend on age. Babies are born without mites, but a large majority of people over 18 will have them. Before getting too freaked out, know that it is completely normal and there is really nothing that you can do about it. Don't worry, it seems that the mites eat and crawl around on your faces with no harmful side-effects.

The Fraser Fir became the number 1 tree because it almost is the perfect shape for a Christmas tree. The Noble Fir became number 2 because of its branches which are usually the right shape. The Colorado Blue Spruce became number 3 because of

how strong the branches are. The branches are so strong they can hold all those heavy ornaments.

The Grand Fir is number 4 because of how soft the tree is to touch and how big it is. The Balsam Fir is number 5 because it gives off a pleasant smell in the house. The White Fir or Concolor Fir became number 6 from its foliage color. The Eastern White Pine became number 7 because even if

you water it poorly it still lives for a long time. The Douglas Fir is number 8 because of how beautiful the tree is. The Scotch became number 9 because the needles do not fall off the tree. The Norway Spruce is number 10 because of its unbelievable color.

The 10 Most Popular Christmas Trees

by Emilie G. Jingle All the Way a success…

As everyone knows the concert was performed for the Oak

Ridge students and staff yesterday afternoon in the gymnasium; as well as for the parents and community yesterday evening at 6:30. The music sang and played was all geared towards a Christmas Theme. The singers took us to Hawaii with the song Melekalimaka, followed up with Swinging in a Holiday Mood. The Orff ensembles entertained in the concert as well, with new arrangements of holiday songs, written and directed by Mr. Greene. The decorations in the gym were as always fantastic and were a direct reflection of the dedication and time that is dedicated to all those that helped make the program the memorable occasion it truly was. All those in attendance left with a feeling of accomplishment for the students that were in the performance.

Krenzel’s Health Minute

I recently had a conversation with a student about them being so tired during the day. They told me that they were just not able to get to sleep at night. Even when they went to bed early, they had a hard time actually falling asleep. If you are having the same trouble, here are a few tips that may help you get the sleep that you need. First, get some exercise during the day or afternoon. Leave the few hours before bed for relaxing activities, but go outside and play before dinner! Second, be sure to eliminate the use of electronics while you are in bed. Many studies show that the use of electronics such as phones and laptops in bed contributes to a lack of sleep. Last, turn off the radio and television. The music and television playing while you are sleeping can make your sleep less restful. I hope this advice will help you wake rested and ready for the adventures of your day!

Announcing the Underground Armafox R3 Campus.

In the last edition, we spoke briefly about the newest addition to the Camdenton R3 School District Armafox Campus; a completely underground campus to house the same amount of students as the above ground facilities. This project began years before the first load of dirt was brought in to fill in the ravine where the current high school sits. The underground system was implemented as a proactive way for the Camdenton School District to be prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse. The underground system also makes use of all the space available in the bottom of the ravine rather than just filling it up with rocks and dirt. Under each building on the campus, there is now an exact replica of the above ground building in size and shape. Each of the new buildings is equipped with all the modern technology and lighting systems available.

There was a slight delay in the completion of the Armafox complex when the State of Missouri decided to build the bypass through town. To keep from having to pay for the overpass that crosses the campus road, we had to build our road first. So, all other state projects came to a halt, including Armafox. For over a year, we drove on cement roads to the bridge site. Finally, the State of Missouri was ready to start construction of the overpass, which allowed the school district to resume work on other buildings.

The dirt and rock required to fill in the ravine where the high school now sits would have been very expensive if we had to purchase the materials, but the Armafox planning committee found a great solution that would help everyone involved and also helped the completion of the project. The state borrowed the diamond mine machinery from the great state of Colorado to build tunnels that connected all the underground campus buildings to each other. There are access points in the basement of each building above ground that will take you to the Armafox campus below. Once you reach the sublevel then you will choose the tram marked as your destination.

Mr. Hammer, ORI Focus Room Teacher, was hired because of his Navy Seal experience and has been placed in charge of this project since the completion of the bypass bridge. Now that the Armafox is ready to begin holding classes, Mr. Hammer is close at hand to help with any issues that arise. When it is time for your class to go and tour the underground campus please make sure you compliment Mrs. Hammer, Mr. Hammer’s wife, on all the amphibian decorations that give the caverns a more “at home” feel.

While researching the facts for this story, we stumbled across a very interesting answer to another question that had been bothering us about the underground system. Why is the bypass so tall between the high school and the rest of the campus? Accidently, we found the answer when we jumped on the wrong tram and noticed a very large metal set of doors with a sign mounted on them that said, “access by retinal scan only”….
