Oaklands HouseOaklands House is a celebration of light and space, where garden and home merge into one harmonious whole.

The present owners were searching for a home with easy access to London, but where they could enjoy a rural life style. They were thrilled to discover the spacious Edwardian house in pretty countryside, approximately two miles from Headcorn, and a very short drive to the station. With great care they extended the building, and ensuring that period and modern features blended seamlessly, created a grand and luxurious house, that is also a supremely comfortable family home.

Situated off the road, Oaklands House is a hidden gem. As you pass through the main gate and see the attractive façade before you, there is a sense of entering your own private haven. The wow factor of the house is apparent as soon as you enter the Great Hall. The very heart of the home, its luxury of space, traditional design and inspired use of glass in the adjoining orangery, creates a superb light and positive space, where the family can relax and friends are entertained. The owners say that Oaklands House is the perfect party home.

The entire house, with its wide choice of reception rooms, space and openness is used and enjoyed. The huge kitchen is perfect for family meals, and the generous size of the central island, has seen it christened ‘The Continent.’ The spiral cellar hidden at the end of the kitchen, where up to a thousand bottles can be stored in the walls is both a useful and original feature.

The magnificent dining room is perfect for formal meals, and drinks parties for up to fifty guests. The fireplace, which matches that in the Great Hall, creates a cosy winter ambience. And in the summer, with the doors open, guests can enjoy pre prandial drinks on the veranda. Further entertainment can be found in the cinema room and the indoor Jacuzzi is a, ‘decadent’ feature.

Overnight guests stay in the two bedroom self contained ground floor annex, separate from the family accommodation on the first floor and at the other end of the house. The master bedroom suite is a splendid adult sanctuary, with stunning views across the garden and pond.

The garden wraps itself softly around the house, and is a delight of seasonal colours. The huge lawns are child and dog friendly, whilst the energetic will be attracted to the tennis court. The large pond with its waterfall, islands and wide variety of fish and wild life, is the stunning central feature, bringing increased tranquillity and repose to the garden. It is a joy to sit by the stillness of the water and look back at the house and its aura of safe permanence.

Headcorn has a friendly and busy community life and Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Ashford are close by for shopping expeditions. There are excellent schools in the area, and the continent is within easy reach by EuroStar from Ashford Station. The owners wish they could pick their much loved home up and place it in their new location, but will take away happy memories of their sixteen years at Oaklands House.

MAIN DESCRIPTIONA hidden gem set back from the road behind large gates is this six bedroom, five reception room detached residence. Fully fenced with hedging and shrubs on all borders, making for a secluded and sheltered home, not overlooked by any neighbours. Mature gardens and pond in approximately 2 acres. The old part of the house was built circa 1908 retaining many of the original features including working fireplaces, and the new part in 2005 in a green oak style. Ideal for both entertaining and family living. The property sits in spacious gardens, tennis court, fully fenced and gated 1/2 acre pond with an abundance of wildlife. The property also benefits from planning permission to erect two new heritage style triple bay barns with one also having ancillary accommodation above.

There is a spiral cellar installed during the construction of the new part of the house. It is accessed via a trap door and is located at the west end of kitchen by the dining area. It is purpose-built as a wine store and can store up to around 1,000 loose bottles. The property also benefits a very recently installed HD 3D cinema with 7.1 surround sound and 120 inch screen with current connectivity to Blue ray, Skybox, Xbox and computer connection. This is not part of the sale however may be part of separate negotiation.
