Welcome On behalf of the Ontario Amateur Softball Association executive

I would like to welcome you to this years Elimination Tournament.

Some great ball games will be played this weekend, so sit back,

cheer on your team and enjoy the facilities and the area you are in.

I would like to thank all of our hosts this year. The commitment

they have shown has helped you compete in the game you enjoy so

much.

To the directors and convenors, thank you for being here this

weekend. Your commitment is what makes the OASA what it is

today.

Thank you to the umpires. Without you this tournament would not

come together.

So once again enjoy the weekend and cheer on all the teams.

Yours In Softball

Earlier this year the fastball community lost a great friendBernie was a tireless and dedicated volunteer whose leadership enabled our community to rise to the top of the fastball world. Bernie was a leader who helped to bring to KW national championships, and ISC World

Tournaments. He will be remembered for his diligence in accounting, for his understanding of organizational

structure, for his professional approach to problems and most of all for his happy and cheerful personality.

Optimist Club of New Dundee Friends of Youth

Devoted New Dundee community member Doug Fischer

passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008.

Doug was an avid athlete in his youth, excelling in fastball

and hockey. At age 20, his life was changed by cancer,

which ultimately resulted in vision loss. He redirected his

skill and talents by coaching numerous teams in the New

Dundee Minor Ball system.

In 2008 Doug received the Gil Read Coaches Honour Roll

award from the Ontario Amateur Softball Association. For

the past 10 years Doug’s dream was to build a new fastball

complex in New Dundee.

With recent government funding and community support,

Doug’s dream will become a reality, and teams will take the

field in 2011.

Welcome to Hillside Park for the 2009 OASA Senior & Intermediate

Men’s Fastball Championship

There are two divisions in this tournament. The senior division includes

the Kitchener Hallman Rivershark Twins, the First Ontario Jarvis

Gamblers, the St Thomas Evergreen Centennials and the Owen Sound

Verge Selects

Kitchener and Jarvis have to be the favourites. Their rosters are filled

with Team Canada players just back from the ISF World Championships

in Saskatoon. St Thomas has been very strong this season and have

done very well in some tournaments against the two favoured teams.

Owen Sound is back in senior fastball for the first time in several years.

The winner will represent Ontario as provincial champion at the

national championships being held in St Thomas Aug 30th to Sept 6th.

The intermediate division features 10 teams. These teams will be

playing not only for the OASA championships but the winner will be

awarded a berth in the ISC II Tournament of Champions in Midland

Michigan next summer, and will also qualify for the Eastern Canadian

Men’s Championships to be played later this summer.

Enjoy the fastball this weekend.
