Swiss Re cat modelling strategy:
“Provide modular cost efficient modelling platform in terms of maintenance and scalability supporting internal risk selection and steering process. The future model architecture needs to support the client service needs and new modelling capabilities. “
Why Oasis
– We regard Oasis a highly advanced rating kernel (uncertainty, condition handling and performance)
– We are integrating the Oasis kernel into our in-house platform
– This way we could use community models access 3rd party models and model component
– contribute some of our models share our models
– Benefit of the advanced rating kernel own model development
– Thought leadership; innovation and access to community
– Oasis will drive the diversification of risk view!
Swiss Re Modelling strategy Oasis perfectly fits in
Fully integrated Nat Cat Platform in Costing and
RM framework

• We migrated our winter storm Belgium model from our (km21) kernel to ktools.
• Geo/encoding (exposure transformation) done in our platform.
• Vulnerability curves transformed to samples.
• Match of the event loss tables (ELT) for our km21 and the ktools result.
• Match depends on number and resolution of samples, and some model specifics.

• Compatibility of Oasis ktools with our in-house solution is key:
– Model compatibility is high (proof of concept).
– Compatibility also in terms of interfaces end-to-end.
– Challenges are minor (e.g. PLA).
• Advantages in ktools’ uncertainty sampling.
• Oasis as a collaboration language.
• To do: Package our own model as a Docker container and plug back in (Model Developer Kit).
• We plan to use Oasis in-house but in its original(unchanged) form to enable collaboration with 3rd
parties.
