The prevalence of obesity has risen threefold or more since the 1980s, even in countries with traditionally low rates.
Among both women and men, the prevalence of overweight has risen rapidly in Ireland and the United Kingdom (England and Scotland), by more than 0.8 percentage point a year, based on measured data.
