The main objective is to gain experience in laying out a closed traverse, accurately measuring the angles of the traverse and the length of the sides
This lab takes two weeks to complete First week
- Laying out the traverse and starting to measure the interior angles and sides
![Page 4: Objective Equipment Procedure Consideration …mmendezl/ce283lab_archivos/Lab 4.pdfThe main objective is to gain experience in laying out a closed traverse, accurately measuring the](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022041618/5e3d6311170a3471f559354d/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Second week- Complete the measurements and prepare an engineering report in which you calculate the error of closure, check the closure against a specification and then make the necessary adjustments
Since the lab will take two weeks, each party must mark their points and install enough offsets that the points can be reset if destroyed
Calculate the azimuth of all sides of the polygon Calculate the area of the polygon

Lay out a parcel of land with BM7 and BM9 at the extremities
Points should be between 200 and 300 feet apart and form a closed polygon
Sides of polygon can not cross each other
Start at point B, measure the angle from BM7 to C
![Page 7: Objective Equipment Procedure Consideration …mmendezl/ce283lab_archivos/Lab 4.pdfThe main objective is to gain experience in laying out a closed traverse, accurately measuring the](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022041618/5e3d6311170a3471f559354d/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Measure the distance B-BM7 and B-C
Move to point C, measure the angle from B to BM9 and their distances
Continue this process until you get to BM7
Measure also the angle from BM8 to A or B

Use 2 common points BM7 and BM9.These are 2 of the 6 corners
Must have a total of 6 sides
Can not go over the water

Set up over a point Shoot the distance Turn the interior angle Shoot the new distance Turn the exterior angle, sum to 360º

Select turning points that will be there for 2 weeks- Corner of a sidewalk, corner of light post, etc.- Pound stake down far enough so they don't get kicked up or pulled up- Must be able to see both points
Everyone do not set up at the same starting point
