Which category has the highest total? That is the most important to you

Do you have a high score in more than one category? Then you might want to try to find a career that

satisfies all of your top values During the last class you identified your TOP 3

categories based on score.

In your notebook take notes about your 3 top categories and what it means about your personality.

We WILL be building on this information so you NEED to know it going forward!!!

You would be happiest in a career that offers some degree of variety or unpredictability.

You want a job that doesn’t have too much structure or routine.

Since your are probably willing to take risks, you might make a good entrepreneur. Burke High offers a class on Entrepreneurship that is

eligible for dual enrollment through Metro Community College and is taught by the best teacher ever ;)

Those who value family are usually happiest with careers that don’t call for evening or weekend work or a great deal of travel.

Flexibility is helpful, as is the opportunity to work at home.

A career with a salary high enough to allow you to work part-time might also be attractive.

If you value knowledge and truth, you might find a career that lets you pass on your knowledge – teaching, for example, or being a librarian – rewarding.

Another alternative might be a job that keeps you seeking/obtaining new knowledge like research or investigative reporting.

• Those who value power need to prepare for leadership.

• Usually that requires some type of advanced education. – Politicians generally have law degrees– Business leaders generally have a Master

degree in Business Administration– Law Enforcement generally requires a

Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice– Another alterative would be to start your

own business (consider taking Entrepreneurship with the best teacher ever)

You will be most satisfied in a career that mirrors your sense of purpose if you value personal integrity and moral purpose.

Your field of work is less important than what your doing within that field. For example as a lawyer you’d be more satisfied

working in legal aid than corporate law. It’s important for you to feel that your work is

worthwhile to society.

Many career fields have the potential to pay well. Make sure you choose one that meshes with your other top values. For example if your top values are Money &

Security it would be wise to choose engineer over entrepreneurship.

Generally careers that pay well require a large time commitment so be prepared to spend the majority of your time working.

If this is your highest value, you will want to make sure that your chosen career involves working closely with others. Would you prefer to work closely with coworkers

or clients? Do you like to see the same faces every day, or do

you want the opportunity to meet new people? Do you have a circle of friends for whom you want

to reserve time?

You will be more recognized as a TV star than say a caterer in town… however you can earn recognition in just about any field if you do your job well.

Choose something for which you have the necessary skills or talents, and work hard.

If this is your highest value, you want to find a job that allows you to set your own hours and work without constant supervision.

Stay away from jobs with strict schedules or jobs in which you are constantly accountable to someone else.

Some careers you could consider: Unstructured sales (real estate, insurance, etc.) Entrepreneurship

If you value security, you will be most comfortable in a job you know will be around for awhile.

No new companies or risky ventures for you. It is likely you would also enjoy a career with

clearly defined duties, rather than a loosely structured job.

If this is your top value, where you work may be almost as important a consideration as what you do.

Your setting must be one that you find visually attractive, maybe a garden or a church.

You might want your work to center around beauty, as well – maybe as a designer, architect, or florist.

Creative people need room to exercise their imaginations, whether they are creating a work of art, inventing a better way to display merchandise, or solving a problem in computer programming.

If this is your top value, you should seek a flexible career that lets you put your ideas to work.

If you value helping others, there are many ways to accomplish your goal.

One question to ask yourself is HOW do you want to help others? Some possibilities include:
