Summary: Figures 1 and 2 show the results of the determination of the annealing temperature using differential thermal analysis. For the original process (Figure 1), the annealing temperature for the 10 cycle specimens was 830°C. Once the process was optimized, the annealing temperature for the 10 cycles specimens was decreased to 716°C. Figure 1 Figure 2

Objectives:•Optimization of the accumulative roll bonding processing technique for producing Ti-46Al-9Nb (atomic %) intermetallic sheet materials from elemental Ti, Al and Nb foils. • Optimization of the annealing parameters.

Broader Impact:•The PI is also PI of another NSF funded project entitled “Introducing Science Faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities to Materials Science and Engineering.” The PI has used some of the results of the current research project in the workshop presentation materials. • The PI has been approached by two different companies that are interested in adopting the process. The PI has forwarded these requests to the Intellectual Property Committee here at The University of Alabama.•The results of this research was presented at the 11th World Conference on Titanium that was held in Kyoto, Japan in June 2007.

Education:• Two graduate students and onePost-Doc have been involved with this project.• One graduate student received his Ph.D. in 2007 and the other is a Ph.D. candidate.• One undergraduate student from an underrepresented group will conduct an independent study on a subject related to this project during the Fall 2007 semester.•The results of this research are used to supplement class lectures in two undergraduate courses.
