• Mouth - goes right to the brain
•Brain - effected on 1st drink
• Stomach - goes to the blood
• Small Intestines - into the blood
• Liver- burns .5oz./hour, changes to H20 & CO2
• Eliminates - through sweating, breathing and urination
Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC)
• Amount of alcohol in the blood
• oxidized through the liver
• 1 drink per hour
• Blackout occurs about .35%
• Lethal BAC is .41%
Factors influence BAC
• Gender
• Weight
• Metabolism
• Amount of time
• How fast a person drinks
• How much one drinks
Effects on the body (140 lbs. person)
• 1-2 drinks - CNS slows, feel relaxed, sight decreases
• 3-4 drinks - performance, responsiveness, judgment, reaction time decreases
• 5-7 drinks - senses dull, speech slurred, vision, balance, and sense of pain decreases
• 8-12 drinks - body temp., blood circulation, and breathing decreases (possible death)
