Dear Conference Participants: Welcome to the Youth Development Institute, our comprehensive professional development program that builds capacity and competencies in youth development staff, faculty and volunteers. We are pleased to provide these programs to you as part of the University of Florida IFAS Extension programs, a family of extension programs that reach Florida citizens with up-to-date research based information. Throughout the Institute, you will have the opportunity to attend your choice of curriculum workshops and youth development seminars. This year’s seminars focus on the National 4-H Mission Mandates of Science, Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. These workshops are designed for Extension professionals, adult volunteers, and community leaders to provide tools and techniques that enhance a positive environment for youth development. I hope that you find them interesting to attend and valuable to your program. Our staff and volunteers have worked to prepare a quality conference for your enjoyment. I challenge you to actively participate in every session and reflect on your new knowledge. Then apply what you have gained during the next several months, truly making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Thank you for your participation.

tools that the 4-H agent can use with their county association
members. A County 4-H Association assessment tool will be

measure their progress towards established goals and
objectives.

Del Mar
Wednesday 3:15 - 5:15 PM

Phenology is “the science of appearance”. Scientists who
study phenology are interested in the timing of specific
biological events (such as flowering, migrations, and
reproduction) in relation to changes in season and climate.
Phenologists attempt to learn more about the abiotic factors to
which plants and animals respond by making observations of
specific plant and animal species throughout the year. By
incorporating 4-H youth and adults, participants can become
citizen scientists.
