Workers Compensation Board
The Workers Compensation Board in P.E.I originated on March 24, 1949, accepting the principles made by William Meredith, the man who started workers compensation in Canada.

Meredith’s Principles
There are five Meredith Principles…
1. No-fault compensation2. Collective liability3. Security of payment4. Exclusive jurisdiction5. Independent board
![Page 5: Occupational Health and Safety in PEI, Canada](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082804/546449f5b4af9f5d3f8b495c/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
No-fault compensation
Workplace injuries are compensated without thinking about fault. If there is an accident, the worker receives compensation without argument over liability for the injury

Collective liability
This principle means that the total cost of the compensation for the employee is shared by all employers.
![Page 7: Occupational Health and Safety in PEI, Canada](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082804/546449f5b4af9f5d3f8b495c/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Security of payment
Injured workers are assured that they will receive compensation and benefits in the future.

All compensation claims are given to the compensation board. The board makes all final decisions on compensation.
