Animals are very important for people. We keep dogs and cats as pets. Some farmers have sheep and cows to produce meat and milk. We ride horses. We watch lions and tigers in the zoo or in the circus.

For people who love animal, working as a veterinarian is an ideal job. Vets treat many kinds of animals, sometimes zoo animals and others.

Vets have to be very careful when they treat sick animals who can bite, kick or scratch them. They should learn about different diseases of the animals. Vets also learn how to treat animals so that neither the vet nor the animal gets hurt.

Bob Ellis, 29, is a dolphin trainer. ‘I like my job a lot because I love working with animals. It is tiring though, as I work long hours’, he says. Bob is an early bird. His day starts at 5 o’clock in the morning. He gets up, has a shower, and

then he gets dressed. After breakfast, at about 6 a.m. he catches the bus to work. He arrives at the aquarium and feeds the dolphins. After that they practice for the show until lunch-time. Bob has a break for lunch from half past twelve till half past one, the show starts.

At 5 p.m. he feeds the dolphins

Again and then he goes home.

He doesn’t go out during the week because he goes to bed early. In his free time he loves going for long walks in the countryside with his dog, Jack.

Sharks terrify most of us, but Daniel Weaver, shark scientist, swims with them for a living! We asked him some questions

about this curious career. Well, it’s an extremely rewarding job.

I often travel to faraway places South

Africa and Fiji to study sharks. We

attach tads to them and follow them

by satellite. Then I analyze the data

and discover new and amazing things

about the sharks. It’s very exciting!

On the other hand we sometimes do

boring desk work, such as writing

reports. Also shark scientists don’t

usually get paid a lot.

Shark scientists need to be intelli-

gent and physically fit. They enjoy

working outdoors and they have to

be calm, patient and quite brave.

Some interesting facts of this job. Sharks have to 15 rows of sharp

teeth, extremely strong jaws

and excellent senses. They also

swim very fast. However, sharks

rarely attack humans. There are

over 350 species of sharks in the

world and only about 10 are

dangerous for us. But humans

kill over 12 million sharks a year

for food and sports!

A shark scientist usually studies

Marine Science or Zoology at

University.

What are they? Whenever and wherever something important happens,

journalists and photographers are reporting on the events and taking pictures. These people often put themselves in

dangerous situations. Some may be seriously hurt or even killed because of their efforts. Journalists go to areas where there are conflicts to report on the war. They also report on political protests. Sometimes their responsibilities put them

in danger as they try to find

out the facts behind a story.

Photographers are courageous

people. They are ready to put

themselves in dangerous

Situations to take dramatic

Pictures, besides to be very close to the events.

Can you retell these two articles?

• One man in this land was a wonderful farmer. He loved his work. He treated all his plants like tiny children. He tended them day by day watching them grow. The man grew every kind of fruit and vegetable. He ate some of the food right away. He put other food in a dark, cool place. He ate this food during the long winter.

• This farmer filled the spaces around his tiny house with flowers. He picked some of them and put them all over his house. He hung some of the flowers upside down to dry. Then he filled his sleeping sack with the dried flowers. In the winter, the sweet smell of the flowers reminded him of the warm summer.
