occupy - a folk poem
TRANSCRIPT
OCCUPY
I look at the world and what do I see
The loss and the meaning of freedom and free
We sit in our homes and stare at our screens
And bathe in a prison of virtual dreams
We run from the truth and we cherish the lie
That someone should save us from the
diminishing pie
We shout and protest at the top of our lungs
To tear down the people who created our fun
The irony is great and the paradox is large
For we are the ones who are really in charge
The rich have your money because you spend it
And Congress makes sure that they can keep it
I stand by the side of progress and change
To live in a world without the deranged
They think it’s their right to take what you toil
And give it to those who spend it on spoil
To win this debate and triumph the fight
Divorce the Left and run from the Right!
They want you to run deep into their arms
And tell you they’ll keep you from all corporate
harm
They all buy their suits from the same vendor
And they all sell their souls to the highest
spender
Corporations have bought them except for a few
But you won’t see them on the nightly news
So how do we play if the game is rigged?
Do we feed from their trough like a bunch of
pigs?
We could leave the farm and find another
Or innovate, create, plant and discover!
The mouse trap is built but we can go higher
The world is our oyster to build and inspire
To make a great change, don’t raise a sign
Protest your mind to build and design!
When they come for your house and steal your
job
You still have your mind, that they can’t rob!
So close the screen and look in the mirror
OCCUPY YOU, can it get any clearer?!
The change that you seek is inside of yourself
That’s where you’ll find an abundance of wealth
