OCDLA: The Next 30

1The Oregon Public Defenders Association was founded in 1979 and was quickly restructured and renamed the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

2A small group of dedicated leaders helped build the organization in those early years.

As the years passed, OCDLA developed into the gold standard for criminal defense associations. Today, the association has over 1,300 members and is the largest per capita association of its kind.

But for nearly 34 years, the association rented various offices around Eugene, never having a permanent home in which to grow and serve its members.

Seven years ago, the first serious discussions of locating and purchasing a home for OCDLA began during Greg Hazarabedians presidency.

In 2010, Chris and Suzanna Hansen re-energized the building effort with a $10,000 donation towards a feasibility study.

8In December of 2011, the perfect potential home was discovered

In July of 2012, Roscoe and Debra Nelson offered support to the tune of $50,000! The Portland couple provided the campaign a huge boost of energy with their leadership donation.

After 15 months of negotiations, paperwork, and permits OCDLA officially acquired the building at 101 E. 14th Avenue on April 8, 2013.

On May 20, 2013, Essex Construction began six weeks of remodeling work.

OCDLAs new home officially opened for business on July 1, 2013.
