SFDPW will narrow the Great Highway from 4 lanes to 2 south of Sloat Blvd, due to chronic erosion

traffic analysis and modeling
Transportation engineers developed these proposals using today’s best practices for roadway design, assessing operations with traffic software tools (SYNCHRO and SIDRA) for quanitfying level of service (LOS), average delay and queue lengths.
Proposals are currently being analyzed using San Francisco’s citywide traffic model (SF-CHAMP) to study their interaction with transportation and land use through Year 2040.
At future stages, these proposals will be subject to environmental review under CEQA, which will include further analysis, comparison with alternatives, and additional community input.

Although Ocean Beach is well-served by transit and bicycle facilities, parking is an important asset for zoo, beach, and local business patrons. The recommendations presented here, if fully implemented, would provide a slight increase in the number of available parking spaces.

zoo parking entrance improvements. driveway realigned to intersection at 47th/Sloat. allows westbound left turns into the Zoo from Sloat.
sloat/skyline roundabouts. provides efficient traffic movement, safe crossings, increased landscaping and quieter frontage for adjacent homes.
additional skyline roundabouts. roundabouts work well in series to move traffic with no stops while moderating speeds and providing safe crossings, including to Lake Merced trails.

A modern roundabout is an unsignalized, yield-on-entry
circular intersection. Unlike large rotaries and traffic circles, modern roundabout have a small footprint and are designed to reduce vehicle speeds while steadily moving traffic. compared to signalized intersections, modern roundabouts have: ������� fewer conflict points and therefore fewer collisions
