I write to you today asking you to join me in a missionary effort to serve the people of South Korea. At the invitation of Metropolitan Ambrosios, I have been ask to join him in South Korea starting July 26 th for a mid term assignment and exploratory visit. South Korea currently has eight parishes, one chapel and two monasteries. Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea, in a talk given at the Mission Team Chicago Benefit (2013) says, “It is my honest belief that the location of today’s greatest challenges lie primarily in East Asia, particularly in the Far East… Let me ask: Who among us has wondered how many of these three and a half billion (3,500,000,000) people in East Asia, as of today, in 2013, are Christians? The answer is painful, and I do not want to dwell on it. But please allow me to ask just this question: How many among the Orthodox Christians in America are aware of the fact that “the joyful news of the Resurrection” has not yet reached the ends of the earth?” … “Simply by considering these basic facts about Orthodoxy’s minimal witness in East Asia, we become totally convinced that the Orthodox Church is facing new and cosmogonic challenges. Ours is a small, soft voice amidst a loud cacophony encompassing half of the earth’s people. Yet this reality is also an opportunity of unprecedented significance. If we seize this opportunity while we have the chance and we respond with zeal, dedication, and hard work, Orthodox Mission will write golden pages in history for the glory of God and of our Holy Church.” Unworthy as I am, I pray that God will make me worthy for service in His Church. As I begin my path as an OCMC missionary, I ask for your unceasing prayers and financial commitment. It is with your participation and sharing in this ministry that makes missionary efforts possible. Please consider making a generous donation by July 1 st so that I may serve the South Korean mission effort. Enclosed for your convenience is a reply envelope or you may give through the OCMC website http://www.ocmc.org/about/active_missionaries.aspx. Thank you for your consideration and answering Christ’s call to be a witness “…to the end of the earth”. Together in Christ, TyroneStavros Emery “You shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:8
