Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Greet you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christian community in Kuwait had the rare privilege of witnessing an ordination service. Nearly three hour graceful worship service was an overwhelming experience. I hope Prince Varghese achen, being the first priest from Kuwait Mar Thoma community, would evoke an inspiration among the young generation for God’s service.

As the schools reopened, vacationers are back, we are going to be very busy in the church activities too. Sunday school and Sevika Sanghom resumed after the vacation.

Suffragan Metropolitan Zacharias Mar Theophilus Thirumeni will be with us to bless us in the family day. Let us prayerfully prepare for Thirumeni’s visit.

The month of October arrives with youth and family days in church almanac. I am fascinated to pen down few words on family. The word of God exalts the family. The Christian family is always understood in its spiritual context. It is a spiritual unit. In the family, as in the Church, basic values are formed, the soul is shaped and established, and the path of salvation is set forth. The family is that warm place where the leaven of the Faith is nurtured, where we first begin to rise to full life in Christ.

But the selfish, social family, which triumphs the rights or privileges of blood ties, is for us not a true family. An economic unit that uses family relationships to attain worldly possessions or wealth; the social unit turned in on itself, making the family responsible only for itself, that family which is a “god,” the single most important thing in life, that thing most worth fighting for-these, too, are not families for a true believer. As exalted and sacred as the family might be, our first loyalty as true Christians is to God. Anything which comes before Christ, to paraphrase Holy Scripture, is not worthy of Christ. Anyone who places the priorities of the family before the Church and the commandments is a cultist, betraying both the Church and the authentic family. A true family is not worldly. A true family is an Image of the Church and the brotherhood of all mankind. A true family does not confine its love to those within its boundaries, but extends to its neighbors (and even its enemies) the love which has been developed, cultivated, and refined within the family.

There could be nothing more pristine than the true family of God. It is, after all, the crucible in which the elements of whole persons are formed. May God make us worthy to lead and to establish such families.

Dear Parishioners,

Greetings to all in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I am privileged to address you through the bulletin every month. Let us thank God Almighty for all the blessings showered upon us during the month of September.

After taking a glance of the past four months work, we should assess our functioning as a parish. Ours is a parish which is big in strength and healthy. But it is time for us to think seriously of the fact whether we are doing our duty as a true parishioner. In the early stages of the church, I believe everything was considered common and not owned anything individually. Keeping this in mind we should assess and analyze as fellow parishioners what we are doing on our part for the smooth functioning of the various activities and projects of our parish.

In the 47 years history of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish, Rev. Prince Varghese Madathi-lethu is the first priest of the Mar Thoma Syrian church who was born and brought up in Kuwait. His ordination service was held on 3rd September 2010, Friday at 3:15pm at Church & Parish Hall, NECK. The service was solemnized by His Grace The Most Rev Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan.

During Metropolitans visit to Kuwait, Kaisthana samithi had a meeting with our Met-ropolitan on 3rd September 2010, 8:00pm at Salmiya parsonage.

Puthen Qurbana and Felicitation meeting to our Rev. Prince Varghese M. were held on Monday 6th September 2010 at church & parish hall, NECK.

This year’s Edavaka annual convention was held from 13th to 17th September 2010. Renowned speaker Mr. Vavachan Thalavady was the main speaker. Through his preaching’s, he has given us a new direction to our Christian life. Let me put on record my gratitude to Evangelist Br. Vavachan Thalavady, and to each and every-one who involved to make the convention a grand success.

Our Assistant vicar Rev. A. Y. Varghese had exited Kuwait on 13th September to Kerala and will re-enter with a new visit visa on September 27th. Let us uphold the subject of our Assistant vicar Rev. A. Y. Varghese visa and along with other four achens visas of sister parishes in our daily prayers for the speedy processing of a permanent visa.

Let us work together and glorify our lord Jesus Christ.

Parish Register UpdationThe third meeting of the kaisthana samithi had decided to update the details of parish members. Existing detail form will be printed and given to the members by area representatives, kindly fill the correct details and return the same on or before 31st October 2010. We request all the members to co-operate and do the needful.

Family Dedication DayFamily dedication service will be held on Monday 11th Oct. 2010 at NECK, church & Parish Hall and on Friday 15th Oct. 2010 at Ebba Hall, Abbassiya. Our Suffragan Metropolitan Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus will be celebrating the Holy Communion on Monday 11th october 2010. A special offertory cover will be provided to all members and the amount will be used for the Mumbai Diocese Navajeevan project.

Edavaka Dinam Celebrations

The 47th Edavaka Dinam is scheduled to be held on Friday 12th November 2010 at Marina Hall, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, from 7:00am onwards, beginning with Holy Qurbana. The Parish day programme will be precided by our Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos Episcopa. All members of the parish are requested to attend prayerfully to make the programme a big success.

First Communicants ClassChildren aged 13 and above, who are preparing to receive First Holy Communion are requested to attend the first communicants class at Abbassiya, Salmiya and Riggae Parsonages on every Saturdays of October 2010 at 4:30pm.

Top Students Award for the year 2010

Awards to the member’s children, who are studying in Kuwait and have secured the highest marks in standard X and XII (Science & Commerce streams) during the Academic year 2009 – 2010, will be distributed during the Edavaka Dinam, scheduled to be held on 12th November 2010, Friday at Marina Hall, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The claimants may therefore submit their mark sheet duly attested by the school authorities on or before 25th October 2010, to the Vicar / Assistant Vicars.

Swargeeya Nadam - 2010The Senior Forum of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish will hold a Musical evening “Swargeeya Nadam” at Indian Central School Auditorium, Jleeb Shuyoukh on Thursday, 28th October 2010 at 6.30 pm. The famous singers Mr. Binu Kidagannur and Mrs. Shyja Shaju will sing to make the occasion a blessed one.All the members of the Parish are invited to the divine musical evening “Swargeeya Nadam”. As requested by our Diocession Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos Episcopa, the proceeds from this programme has been set apart for Bhuj project in Mumbai Diocese.
