and new officers were elected, please check out page2 for your elected officials. Incase you havent heardyet I was elected as the Vice President, and cant waitto serve all Idaho OHV enthusiast. There is no doubtthat legislative issues will keep us busy, with out firstone being the Interim ATV Task that has been estab-lished to look at Idaho Fish and Games MotorizedRule. As many of you know this issue started lastyear, it is now back in the forefront and will surely getlots of attention. Dave Claiborne (Boise ATV Club)and Mark Sauerwald (Mtn Home ATV Club) are lead-ing the push from the motorize perspective.

One of the key things that I have heard in the past year is what has the Idaho State ATV Associationdone for us . us being state ATV clubs. Many rep-resentatives from the OHV community (Dave Clay-comb from Idaho Parks and Recreation, SandraMitchell from Idaho Recreation Council, and AdenaCook from Blue Ribbon Coalition) were are the statemeeting and each one of them had great things to sayabout the state association and how we now have avoice in state issues affecting OHV travel. Prior to theformation of the state association, OHV users wereseen as unorganized and no single voice. With theformation of the ISATVA we definitely have a voice!

    September Meeting

Picnic in the Park It was another wonderful September after in Idaho, and what better than to spend it with friends enjoy-ing some great food.A special thanks to those that showed up earlier tohalp Lynette and Lee getting everything setup. Justas we had it looking nice with tablecloths on thetables, as storm rolled in and the wind played havocwith the decorations.

After some great food and socializing it was time to getdown to some serious games, and if you wasnt thereyou sure missed some hilarious stuff.

There always seems to be water game, and it is veryentertaining and as always it was a lot of fun.

After the water game it was time to see who had the best balancing/coordination.

It was another great time, a special thanks toLynette for always putting together a first classevent.

For those that wasnt able to make it, you can al-ways see plenty of other pictures on the Face-

    book at http://www.facebook.com/mhatvclub

    Winter Riding Tips

With a dusting on the mountains this weekend, it only means one thing . OldMan Winters almost here! If this is your first winter being a member of the MountainHome ATV Club you should know there is NO need to lock your ATV in the shed as we

ride all year (except Dec) round.

While lots of winter goodies (handlebar mittens, heated seats, windshields, etc.) can make your ATVride more comfortable during winter riding, above all you have to stay dry to comfortable during winter AT-Ving. Snow riding to me is a fun experience, here are some simple things, as well as things to think about:

The ATV - make sure its up to the test, change the oil, check the cooling system, basically fix any-thing that you would expect to break. Speaking of brakes, make sure the brakes are up to par. Pay attention toyour engine, if it is air -cooled, remove snow accumulations from the fins, or the radiator on water -cooled mo-tors, you will overheat and engine quickly covered with snow, sounds funny huh, but the snow insulates theengine not allowing the heat to dissipate properly. Think about how and igloo works. Bring extra gas whenriding in snow as you will use more than normal.

Tires: If you ride often in the deep snow you want real aggressive mud type tires (Super Swampers,Realtors & ITP 589's work the best in deep snow), the taller the better! Most of the club riding in the winter isonly through a couple of inches of snow so you really want need the more aggressive ones most of the time.

2wd of 4wd? 4x4 is the best option here, though we have had some riders accompany us on 2wdquads, they fallow the 4wds who are plowing and smoothing out the ruts. The 2wd ATV's low center of gravity is the biggest downfall in deep snow, also the lack of a front differential.

Dress warm! No cotton, like jeans, they absorb the water from the snow, and you will freeze your @$$ off. Snowboarding, skiing, or snow -mobiling gear is the best, but if you haven't got access to the rightstuff, dress in layers with rain gear over the top. For the head, the helmet is great, with a baklava and goggles;your face should stay warm, well warm enough. Ski gloves with Gore -Tex work good, or snow -mobiling mit-tens are the best for keeping the fingers warm, however they do cut down on your dexterity, but then again sowill frostbite. Deal with it!

What to expect? Well, if you are riding on trails where quads have been before, its pretty easy, justget in the ruts and go for some slot car racing. Breaking new ground? Have the biggest & badest ATV (wewill figure this out when the time comes) in front plowing, a sometimes -slow chore, lean back and pull up thefront end on the higher stuff. Make sure to watch out for deep snowdrifts, or down trees covered with snow, they tend to cause major surprises! Stick to routs you know, or have been on when there was no snow, thenyou wont get lost (as quickly) and freeze to death. Freezing to death sucks!

Bring water to rehydrate yourself, you would be surprised how much work deep snow riding reallyis. Make sure you keep your water in an area to protect it from freezing. Beer is a diuretic, it makes you dehy-drated and you have to stop and pee more, not fun in the cold.

Be persistent , keep trying, you will make it . Pay attention to your gas level, know where you are go-ing, take a map and GPS, they help, things look different covered in snow, and visibility is usually limited. So dont be locking up those quads this winter come out an enjoy some scenic rides with us this winter.
