OCT007 | 03/20 OCTOBASE ECO PLUS SYSTEM • Review estimate/R.O. • Confirm paint code • Check spray-out/test panel completed during parts cut-in for blendable color match • Use color chip decks to find information on exterior colors, interior colors, wheel colors, accent colors, bumper colors and underhood colors • Verify Global Color Box color chip in proper sunlight or by using a color-corrective lamp • Utilizing the Valspar Automotive Color Retrieval System, mix the proper amount of color to complete the repair • Check: • Air supply (fittings, hoses, regulators, etc.) • Spray equipment (gun setup, spray pattern, cleanliness) • Safety equipment (fresh air, paint suit, gloves, etc.) • Booth temperature • Booth balance (slightly positive) • Lighting (all working) • Booth cleanliness • Apply one coat of color to repair area, tapering out edges • Allow 3–5 minutes flash time before applying second coat NOTE: Finishes should be dull and tackable before applying the next coat. • Apply second coat slightly extended past the first, tapering out edges • Allow 3–5 minutes flash time before applying third coat NOTE: Finishes should be dull and tackable before applying the next coat. • Apply third coat slightly extended past the 2nd coat, tapering out edges Metallic/Pearl colors: Increase gun distance and apply orientation coat if necessary • Selection of solvent will greatly impact color blendability • Use correct gun arc to blend color into panels • Before applying clearcoat: • Allow color to dry 15–20 minutes at 68°F (20°C) • Verify color blend is acceptable • Verify color coverage • Apply one coat of clearcoat over entire repaired area, extending into the blend area • Allow to flash • Use the proper activator and reducer for the temperature and size of repair • Allow the first coat of clear to become non-stringing before applying the second coat • Apply second coat of clearcoat over the entire area • Valspar Automotive recommends applying clearcoat to the entire panel • Valspar Automotive does not recommend nor warranty the blending of clearcoats • Reference clearcoat TDS for out-of-dust, air-dry and bake times and temperatures • Dry vehicle according to TDS Color/Blend Drying Apply Clear Apply Clear Edge-to-Edge Clear Drying Drying Send to Detail 1. 2. 3. 4. 6. 10. 14. 15. 11. 7. 8. 12. 16. 5. 9. 13. Equipment Check Octoral 2K Sealers Color Color/Blend Mix Color • Degrease surface with TD20 Silicone Remover or TDW35 WaterBase Degreaser using the wipe on wet, wipe off dry process • Complete final examination for defects NOTE: Do not allow surface cleaner to evaporate before wiping dry with a clean towel. All door handles, trim moldings and lights should be removed. Do not mask off these parts. • Blow off and tack vehicle using a low-tack, tack cloth • Check masking to make sure vehicle is properly taped Degrease and Examine Blow/Tack • If needed, apply one medium wet coat of Octoral 2K Sealers • Allow to flash 15 minutes or until finish is completely dull before applying color • If spray-out was not previously made, attach a spray-out card to vehicle during the paint process to check color and coverage • Add spray-out card to your color library NOTE: Some late-model cars do not have a distinct edge or break line on the quarter panel. In these cases Valspar Automotive recommends applying the clearcoat to the roof and the opposite quarter panel.
