October Student Activities Report – Ian Bost

We have had our first big event at UTA and collected 16 new membership forms and renewed the memberships of five existing student members. The UTA students had a table at the Engineering Welcome Event and this event helped the turnout at our first Chapter Meeting. Our chapter president (Richard Eiland) and the Vice President (Marianna Vallejo) are returning again this year. Richard lead the meeting and discussed the upcoming student chapter events. They also noted that there are two chapter positions available (Secretary and Treasurer), elections from these positions will be forthcoming. Joe Baierski (YEA Chair), Nick Schroeder (unofficial faculty adviser) and I attended this chapter meeting. Joe spoke about YEA and the industry from the perspective of a manufacturer’s representative. Nick spoke about the potential employment opportunities for engineering graduates. I spoke about my role as the Student Activities Chair for the Fort Worth Chapter and my involvement in other positions within ASHRAE. The chapter purchased pizza for the students and the meeting took the full hour that we had reserved the space for. The Student Activities Committee is developing a strategy for dispensing scholarships and would appreciate any input that you might have. We would like to give out at least two scholarships for the UTA student branch and two more for the TCU student branch. Our Student Activities Committee consists of the following people: Ian Bost – Chair Adam Henning ([email protected]) – TCU Student Branch Lead Tony Finch ([email protected]) – UTA Student Branch Lead Dan Merkel ([email protected]) – Grades K-12 Lead We are in the process of reporting our activities on the Chapter Facebook page, and we are also on the verge of revamping our current student activities webpage on our Chapter’s website. Please stay tuned for more information. We have entered our SA PAOE points thus far and were the first chapter in our region to reach par! Thanks, Ian Bost, P.E., LEED AP
