PARISH NURSES NOTES FROM THE NURSES’ STATION
The North Country Coalition for Parkinson’s Disease and
movement disorders will hold its annual Parkinson’s Walk on
October 17th at the Samaritan Summit at 10:00AM. Registration
at 9:00AM.
Muhammad Ali’s daughter will be speaking about her family
journey with Parkinson’s Disease at a dinner the evening before
the walk. The dinner will be in the Multi-purpose room at the Summit, the cost is $25.00 per person. Tickets are available by
calling 782-0358 or 778-3232. Rasheda Ali will lead walkers the
following morning.
Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive disorder of the Nervous Septem, that affects one’s movement. It develops gradually,
sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one
hand. But while a tremor may be the most well known sign, the
disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.
In the early stages of Parkinson’s, your face may show little or no
expression, or your arms may not swing when you walk. Your
speech may become soft or slurred. Although Parkinson’s can’t
be cured, medications may relieve the symptoms

October 11: TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Readings: Wis 7:7-11/Heb 4:12-13/Mk 10:17-30 or 10:17-27 What is it that keeps us from following Jesus more fully? The rich man was attached to his wealth and position. He placed his security in his possessions. In our day we place a great deal of value on our independ-ence. We have our plans and ideas, our retirement funds and our bank accounts, our houses and even our relationships which we often place ahead of our relationship with Jesus. Yet everything we have is a gift from God. Is there something that Jesus is calling you to let go of so that you can more freely follow him? Perhaps it is some material thing, per-haps it is something else you have been holding on to, like a grudge or resentment. What is it that Jesus is asking you to surrender?
Note From the Pope,
Pope Francis opened the first session of the Synod on the
Family, asking all those taking part to stay true to their
convictions, but to not close on their prejudices. He said
ultimately the Synod, is not about negotiations, but about truth.
POPE FRANCIS: “The Synod is neither a Parliament nor a Sen-
ate where we have to negotiate. It is an expression of the Church,
it is the Church which walks together to read the truth with the
eyes of the faith and God’s heart. It is the Church that questions
its fidelity to the tenants of the faith. Faith is not a museum to
look at and protect, but a live fountain the Church drinks from to
give to others.”
Before anything else, the priority, he said, must be the good of
the Church, families and the salvation of souls. So being
courageous and humble is a must.
POPE FRANCIS: “Apostolic courage is not frightened in the
face of the world’s temptations, which tend to extinguished the
light of truth in the harts of men and women, replacing it with
small and perishable lights. It’s not frightened either by the hard-
ening of some hearts, who despite good intentions, turn people
away from God.”
The Pope has asked participants to not play the blame game. But
instead, to uplift those who need it, without feelings of
superiority.
Note From the Pastor, The cost of roof repairs was $30,000, which seems expensive. However, both the church and rectory roofs were done and some other repairs were made which makes the roof better than it was before. I have received a design for replacing the ramp on the State Street side of the church. This will be a vast improvement over what now exists and will be much friendlier for those who use the ramp especially in inclement weather. The contractors are working on coming up with the cost of it. Start praying now that they have very sharp pencils. Please continue to be warm and welcoming to new people you meet in church. In case you didn’t realize it, many are church shopping. It would be wonderful if they chose Holy Family for their new parish. If you do not recognize some one first, smile, extend your hand and welcome them to our parish community and by all means introduce yourself. It’s not that hard really, I do it all the time. If you have not yet prayerfully made your contribution to this years Bishops' Fund Appeal please do so. It is our way of reaching out to our brothers and sisters across the North Country enabling the message of Jesus and his great love and care for us to be proclaimed. Fr. Steve

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
As World Mission Sunday approaches, October 18th, we recall our baptismal call to be a mission-minded people. Through our prayers and concrete acts of solidarity, the gift of faith is shared with others. This year’s celebration is further enriched as we mark the 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on the Missionary Activity of the Church (Ad Gentes). The pilgrim Church on earth is missionary by its very nature. In his message for World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis writes, “Mission is part of the ‘grammar’ of faith, something essential for those who listen to the voice of the Spirit who whispers ‘Come’ and ‘Go forth.’ Those who follow Christ cannot fail to be missionaries…” All of us are called to be on mission.
On World Mission Sunday, our diocesan family joins our sisters and brothers around the world. Responding to the voice of the Spirit, we connect with our world on mission: …with Africa, where six million chil-dren receive an education in some 16,000 Church-run elementary schools …with Asia, where those who are sick are provided with loving care at 5,000 Catholic hospitals and small clinics …with the Americas, where catechists travel to remote areas to bring the Good News of God’s great love to families …with Oceania, where young men are supported in their studies for the priesthood, to bring the Lord’s healing hope and peace to those in need …and with Europe, where new churches are being built to welcome faith communities, renewed after years of persecution.
Your financial assistance on World Mission Sunday, offered in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, supports such efforts in the many young mission dioceses in our world, reaching the poorest communities with a message of hope and healing, mercy and peace. Pope Francis emphasizes that “mission is a passion for Jesus and at the same time a passion for his people.” Let us have that same passion this World Mission Sunday, as we share the joy of the Gospel with generous hearts!
Thank you for your generous support to this year’s Mission Appeal.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley Bishop of Ogdensburg
