Weekend Theme - REJOICE - the Lord is at Hand What does it mean when Scripture says, “the Lord is at hand?” And in this world plagued by trouble, problems, illness, and increased persecution of God’s church, how do we show the world what it means to “rejoice?” Pastor Farah opens up Philippians 4:4-7 to us today as we discover together what life looks like in the very presence of God, who promises to always be near.

Sign the Door Take a moment and sign the Reformation 500 door in the atrium this weekend. Children can draw a small picture depicting their love for Jesus. The door will travel to Lansing on Sunday to represent Our Shepherd at the 500th worship celebration in MSU’s Breslin Center. Just as God’s Word showed an open door to Jesus and salvation by grace alone 500 years ago, this door reminds us that we should keep our doors open and serve outside our doors….to share the love of God with everyone around us as we celebrate 500 years of the Reformation on Oct. 31, 2017.

LWML Weekend - Celebrating our Quilting Ministry Lutheran Women’s Missionary League supports mission work throughout the world, raising over a million dollars every year for mission work through the collection of “mite boxes” filled with loose change and small donations. They also encourage women to study the Bible and serve as leaders in their church and community. The LWML gathers women together at rallies and conventions for Bible study, exciting worship, and service to the community. Call Marge Tanney at 248-594-4786 to learn how to get involved. GIGANTIC THANK YOU Generosity overflowed October 2nd at the Blood Drive! Our goal was 40 units and 61 units of lifesaving products were collected-49 whole blood and 12 Double Red! This amount gave 183 hospital patients a chance to once again enjoy good health. To everyone who came to donate, a sincere thank you for your effort and support. These donations replenished the supply demand from the recent hurricanes and the Las Vegas tragedy and are a gift from the heart.

You’re bad for business There is no other way to say it - your prayerful presence at a 40 Days for Life vigil is bad for business. Abortion is, after all, a business. No doctor grows up wanting to be the best abortionist in the country. It’s never the plan. Something went wrong…and many times, due to medical malpractice or person misconduct, abortionists need cash. Former Planned Parenthood workers say as many as 75 percent of their clients don’t show up for abortion appointments when people are outside praying. Fewer paying customers will mean more abortion centers going out of business. Exciting things happening in our Childcare Center!

is once again off and running for the fall.

While our program operates year round, we often consid-er fall to be a jump-start to our program as we receive many inquiries this time of year. Currently we serve 122 children from 95 families that come from Birmingham and neighboring communities.

Along with our regular Christian curriculum and monthly themes, we offer several curricular enhancements that are brought into our facility from outside resources:

Stretch 'n Grow is a program that provides music and movement once each week under the titles of "All Star Sports" and "Yoga".

Mundo Kids is a Spanish language program that is conducted in 2 10-week sessions, in the fall and in winter.

Our Shepherd's annual Walk-A-thon on October 6th was a great success! The rain didn't stop the students from having fun! Thank you to our PTL, parents & teachers for your support. This annual fundraiser brought in roughly $4,700 for the PTL to use for various assemblies and activities for the school.
