SUNY Cradle to Career in Albany, NY
September 12, 2016
05/01/2023 8
Highlights:• Prioritization: We have to move the dial in one place
in order to gain authenticity. What can you move/impact by June? Focus on that first. • In Albany, they started with just getting kids
registered for kindergarten. It’s a great first step.• Memphis focus was on having more students fill
out their FAFSA forms. Goal of 100 percent filling out their FAFSA forms.
• There are now 69 StriveTogether members• 7 of them in are in New York state (most in the
nation, but Ohio is close)• Authentic university participation. Chancellor Zimpher
wants SUNY to be all in.
05/01/2023 9
Cradle to Career Advocacy • Both Minnesota and Utah have
had state legislation support StriveTogether efforts.
• But currently, Gov. Cuomo thinks it’s too big to take on.
• In Albany, the SUNY C2C Alliance talked about banding together to create policy change at the state level, as well as find ways for SUNY to support these efforts both locally and state-wide.

Takeaways from Memphis Convening:1. The struggle is real.2. The true price of fame.3. Don’t look down.4. There are no easy answers.
1) Everyone struggles to find the right path.
05/01/2023 12
OR…
2) PR in the Collective Impact world is a sticky wicket.
05/01/2023 13
Yes, but…It’s all well and good to keep our heads down and focus on the work, but without taking credit, how do we show how important we are?
3) The CANs drive both Sustainability and the Collective part of collective impact.
05/01/2023 14
• All of the sessions about sustainability and bringing the community together focused on supporting the programing that is driven by the CANs’ work.
• The initiatives focused on the CANs, data and communications, not on fundraising for themselves. Those funds came from one or multiple anchor entities and featured longer term commitments.
4) Session titles are sometimes a little misleading.

Geneva 2020 Report:Timeline
05/01/2023 21
The Geneva 2020 Report or Snapshot is currently in the development and writing phase. In the next few weeks, I will be reaching out for info from Success for Geneva’s Children (for 0-5 data), FLCC (for GHS graduate data) and GCSD for National Student Clearinghouse Data.I’ve met once with HWS’s Communication’s office and plan to have a detailed outline to them by the first week of November, with the rest of the materials to them by the end of November.
Geneva 2020 Report:A Very Public Launch
05/01/2023 22
An evening event for potential funders, followed by the Geneva Discovery Day to publicly share the Geneva
2020 Report, as well as celebrate our amazing youth.
COLLABORATIVE ACTION NETWORK
05/01/2023 23
• Data is put to work in Collaborative Action Networks (CANs) — the engine behind collective impact. • A CAN is a group of people comprised of experts, practitioners, and providers who convene around a
specific educational outcome and indicator. • The CAN is intended to serve as a learning community for network members who identify and share best
practices, develop local solutions, and commit to engaging in continuous improvement processes within their own programs, institutions, and the CAN.
05/01/2023 24
• Met with Karen Fahy, Director of Humanities at GCSD
• Will meet again in two weeks• Plan first meeting for November• Need to finalize CAN director • Need to finalize members• Then create a charter• Then go to work!
COLLABORATIVE ACTION NETWORK:LITERACY
05/01/2023 25
Data:• We just lost our main data
contact at GCSD.• Only a part-time BOCES person
remains.• Supt. Newton is looking at
options, but we need a solution now.
• Geneva 2020 needs a small data workgroup to devise a plan
for going forward. • Please let me know if you are
not interested in serving on the workgroup, otherwise I will assume that you are.
