September 26, 2008 - San Jose State University SAE
International Student Chapter sends seven of their
members to a four-day course by Claude Rouelle,
President and racecar engineer for Optimum G.
Optimum G organizes seminars where students learn
about racecar engineering and how to use data
acquisition to understand, analyze, predict, and
improve car handling.

Moto GP Laguna Seca
2008 July 17-20, 2008 - Our Formula SAE team volunteered and raised money over the three-day Moto GP event in Monterey, CA. Our SJSU SAE International Student Chapter has developed a relationship with Harlen Lee, events director of the Sports Car Racing Association of Monterey Peninsula (S.C.R.A.M.P.). With his help, we have access to volunteer and work at racing events such as Moto GP, Rolex Monterey Historics, AMA Superbikes, and American Le Mans Series.
SJSU SAE Diversity Some of the motorsport activities our members enjoy include FSAE, Mini Baja, autocross racing, go karting, Formula 1, Moto GP, motocross, and even our local amateur racing series like the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM), and S.C.R.A.M.P.
Shown here are of a few of our SAE International members and some of their toys.
Chassis prototype under construction September 27, 2008 - The chassis team continues to
develop the PVC prototype to help size the chassis for
drivers and driver ergonomics. It will also help to
verify correct dimensions and tolerances as well as
come up with an efficient manufacturing plan while
constructing the final product. They plan to have this
prototype completed by the October 4th weekend.

are covered extensively, from qualitative
explanations to derivations of essential
formulas.
Over 600 pages of race engineering was taught to
participants over a period of fifty hours in four
days.
June 20-22, 2008 - Our Formula SAE Team
raised money at Infineon Raceway. They worked
with recruiters and new soldiers of the United
States Army, raised awareness, and gave support
to our soldiers.
During the event, we had young adults
participate in strengthening their minds and
bodies. Activities such as robotic and machinery
simulations to rock climbing and other physical
activities were exercised.
Pamphlets, brochures, and applications were
handed out to individuals who showed interest in
getting degrees and continuing their education at
colleges and Universities.
June 25-28, 2008 - Our Formula SAE Team attended the four-day Formula SAE West competition in Fontana, CA. We had a chance to meet with teams from across the world, ranging from Japan to Brazil. Many of them were extremely helpful and showed us examples of what to expect for next year’s competition. Video footage of the static and dynamic events were taken. This gave us a basic idea of how the track layout will be. It also let us know what type of questions we should expect from the judges during presentations. Brigham Young University, University of Cincinnati, and Michigan State took exclusive interviews with our team. They discussed in detail certain designs they took into consideration for their powertrain and suspension teams.

Mini Baja Competes at Montreal June 12-15, 2008 - Our Mini Baja team
designed and built an off-road vehicle,
which was taken to an intercollegiate
competition in Montreal. Our vehicle
carried the tradition of our previous teams
and kept the name, Sparta.
The team far excelled their goals and scored
higher than schools such as Milwaukee
School of Engineering and CSU Long Beach.
Our performance at the competition showed
significant improvement over previous SJSU
vehicles with our innovative design and focus
on durability.
Sparta was able to participate in all aspects of the
competition in Montreal including a log pull event, a
timed acceleration and braking event, a very muddy
traction event, an obstacle course, and finally an
endurance event. The
endurance event was bittersweet. Nearly
a third of the way through the 4-hour
event, a collision with another vehicle
disabled Sparta irreparably. The team
however, was not dispirited. All of us
were overjoyed with the performance of
the vehicle, which far exceeded our
expectations.
A tremendous amount of time and
work went into this project including
team building, networking,
fundraising, designing, and
fabricating. The hands on experience
from this project puts the students of
our team in a better position to get
hired into the work field. It also gives
Silicon Valley another incentive to hire
students from the College of
Engineering at San Jose State
University.
