Editorial

Dear Porsche Club Presidents,Dear Porsche Club members,

For decades, driving a Porsche hasbeen associated with great automotivepleasure, fulfilling a childhood dream orsimply with fast and reliable sportsequipment for every type of motor sport.

In many places, driving a Porsche me-ans much more than this for Porscheowners: the Porsche becomes an indis-pensible part of the family that receivesa lot of affection and care at home, andwith which numerous excursions are ta-ken to meet with other family members.

We are busily working on our productportfolio and are passionately develo-ping the sports cars of your dreams sothat the enthusiasm the Porsche Clubmembers have shown for our vehiclesfor more than six decades lives on.

Within this context, we were especiallypleased that the Porsche SupervisoryBoard gave us the green light for theseries development of the Porsche 918Spyder at the end of July. This pionee-ring, high-performance, mid-enginesports car with plug-in hybrid techno-logy created a worldwide sensation asa concept study at the Geneva MotorShow and at Auto China in Beijing, andis also bound be popular in the interna-tional Porsche Club family – of this wehave no doubt.

We are equally proud of the PorscheClub events that again drew impressivecrowds in 2010. The Porsche ParadeEurope with approx. 700 participants andthe 55th Porsche Parade USA with almost1500 Porsche Club members were thefront runners of the largest club eventsof the year and turned the Club mee-tings into true “family functions”.

In addition to the huge success of therespective Porsche Clubs, PorscheClub Coordination is especially pleasedabout the high value placed on theseClub events by the Porsche family andthe Board of Directors of Porsche AG.They insisted on personally participa-ting in the events of the large PorscheClub family and sharing the enthusiasmwith Porsche friends from around theworld.

In this edition of Porsche Club News,we would like to honour a special birth-day within the Porsche family, that ofsomeone who truly embodies the prin-ciple of family: Hans-Peter Porsche, one of the four sons of the companyfounder, Ferry Porsche.

This year, he celebrates his 70th birth-day. For more than 50 years, Hans-PeterPorsche has regularly visited PorscheClub events across the globe; altoget-her, he has attended 41 Porsche Parades

and many other Club events. In doingso, he makes a clear statement to thePorsche Clubs, often together with hisbrother Dr. Wolfgang Porsche: exhibitingthe sense of unity between the Porschefamily and the Porsche Club family – atradition that their father, Ferry Por-sche, began nurturing back in 1952.

In August of this year, Sandra Mayr andPaul Gregor from Porsche Club Coordi-nation had the great honour of being in-vited by Hans-Peter Porsche to visit himin Salzburg and marvel at his uniquecollection of special Porsche vehiclesand Club memorabilia. You can read allabout it on pages 22–26.

Best wishes,Porsche Club Coordination

Limited edition of just 356

Fourth generation of a sports car legend: The new Porsche 911 Speedster

Classic profile: The 911 Speedster follows in the tradition of the 356 family

Very flat, very sporty and veryrare: Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG isreleasing a new 911 Speedster asa limited edition.

In homage to the first Porsche modelwith the Speedster name – the 356Speedster – the new model is limited to356 vehicles. The two-seater is signifi-cantly different to the other membersof the 911 family. In the best tradition, the distinctive profile of the new 911Speedster is formed by the 60 millime-tre low windshield with stark angles, theflat contour of the sporty manual softtop and the characteristic “double bub-ble” on the cover. This emphasises thebody of this rear-wheel drive vehicle, which is 44 millimetres wider at therear. The Porsche 911 celebrated its

world premiere at the beginning of Oct-ober at the Paris Motor Show.

The new 911 Speedster combines theclassic characteristics of this type ofPorsche sports car with the yet furtherimproved performance of the current911 generation: the 3.8-litre, six-cylinderBoxer engine delivers 408 HP (300 kW),23 HP more than the 911 Carrera S.With an average consumption of 10.3litres over 100 kilometres (NEDC) anda CO2-Emission of 242 g/km, the newSpeedster remains as efficient as the911 Carrera S Cabriolet without theperformance increase – an effect ofthe Porsche Intelligent Performance. The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)with seven gears takes on the trans-mission of power to the rear axle, with

limited-slip differential as standard. Also standard are the Porsche ActiveSuspension Management (PASM) andthe Porsche ceramic brake system(PCCB). Add to that the exemplary oc-cupant protection of the new 911Speedster: The Porsche engineers furt-her developed the roll-over protectionsystem standard for all open Porsches, especially for this model.

The current Speedster was designedby Porsche Exclusive – the company’sown refiner that specialises in customi-sing Porsche vehicles and limited editi-ons. After the huge success of the 911Sport Classic, the 911 Speedster onceagain demonstrates the limited editionexpertise of Porsche Exclusive as itkicks off their 25th anniversary, which

will be celebrated in 2011. In keepingwith the Porsche Exclusive ideal, the911 Speedster is not only equippedwith virtually all the options from the911 series, but also boasts an astoun-ding hand-perfected interior in smoothblack leather with numerous details ex-clusive to the Speedster and matchingthe colour of the exterior. These in-clude the chequered flag appliqués onthe centre panels of the adaptive sportseats and the leather side bolsters.

The sporty note is emphasised by the“pure blue” colour of the exterior, deve-loped exclusively for the Speedster andproviding an attractive contrast to thetinted front lights, the black headlamprings, the black windshield frame andother black features. The Speedster isalso available in “Carrara white” uponrequest at no extra charge. In addition,it has a special front trim, specific sideskirts and an independent rear trim.

The Speedster series was launched in1953 with a pure-bred sports car ba-sed on the Porsche 356, which had twosports bucket seats, doors with inser-

table side windows made of plastic anda shortened, elegantly curved wind-shield. In 1988, the Speedster cele-brated a renaissance on the basis ofthe 911 Carrera, but with an additionalfeature: this was the first time we sawthe cover with the characteristic dou-ble bubble. As the 911 Carrera pro-gressed to the next level of evolution, another Speedster was launched in1993/1994.

The 911 Speedster will hit the Germanmarket in December 2010 at the priceof EUR 201,682, which includes coun-try-specific equipment and 19% VAT.

More power for the Panamera

Performance increase for Panamera Turbo: SportDesign package and 20” Panamera Sport wheels

Confidence in all situations: The Porsche Panamera with the new 20” Sport wheels

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AGlaunched a power increase in September for the PanameraTurbo that increases the engineperformance by 40 HP to 540 HP.In addition, a SportDesign packageand the new 20” Panamera Sportwheels expand the personalisationoptions for the Gran Turismo series.

Core elements of the power increasefor the Panamera Turbo are two newturbochargers with titanium alloy tur-bine wheels, which lead to a noticeablefurther improvement in engine initial re-sponse and sensitivity via adapted en-gine management. The maximumtorque also increases to 750 Newtonmetres, and even to 800 Nm in theoverboost mode of the Sport Chronopackage, ex-factory in the PanameraTurbo power enhancement. This en-ables the Panamera Turbo to acceleratefrom zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 secondsin Sport Plus mode – 0.1 secondsfaster than the series production car.The top speed is 305 km/h comparedwith the 303 km/h of series production.

With a CO2-Emission of 270 g/km and11.5 l/100 km (NEDC), the PanameraTurbo with increased power outputdoesn’t consume any more fuel thanthe 500 HP model. Porsche attributesthis to the Porsche Intelligent Perfor-mance. The power kit has been avail-able as a Porsche Exclusive optionsince September 2010, costing EUR16,695.70 including VAT. PorscheTequipment will introduce the power en-hancement as a retrofit option in No-vember 2010.

With its new SportDesign package,Porsche offers Panamera customers afurther opportunity to give their vehi-cles a more customised look as well.As well as a special nose section, painted in the exterior colour with en-larged, black air intake grilles, it includesindependent side skirts and the stan-dard rear lower section, also painted inthe exterior colour and featuring dif-fuser with fins. The SportDesign pack-age has been available since October2010 for new vehicle orders fromPorsche Exclusive or as a retrofit from

Porsche Tequipment. The Porsche Ex-clusive price is EUR 4581.50 includingVAT. The side skirts are also availableseparately on request for EUR 969.85including VAT.

Production of the 918 Spyder

Green light for series production of the 918 Spyder: The Porsche Supervisory Board has spoken

An inspiring perspective: The 918 Spyder is hitting the road

The Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG hasgiven the green light for the series production of the Porsche918 Spyder.

The overwhelming response from boththe public and our customers is whatled the Porsche Board of Directors toorder the development of a study-based series production car. The con-cept study of the high-performancemid-engine sports car with plug-in hybridtechnology created a worldwide sensa-tion at its debut at the Geneva MotorShow 2010, and again at Auto China inBeijing.

The conversion of the 918 Spyder intoa limited edition shows that the

Porsche brand has taken the right pathwith the Porsche Intelligent Performanceapproach as well as the combination ofhigh-performance with efficient driveconcepts. The 918 Spyder is being de-veloped in Weissach and will be pro-duced in Zuffenhausen, also a good de-cision for the German site.

The concept study of the 918 Spyderenables CO2 emissions of just 70 g/kmon the one hand (corresponding to anNEDC rating of 3.0 l/100 km), and it

provides the performance of a supersports car on the other. The 918 Spydercombines this optimum-efficiency drivetechnology with an impressive designand top racing technology. Additionalproduct details of the 918 Spyder willbe established in the coming months.

New top Carrera with wide body, more power and rear wheel drive

Carrera GTS: The Porsche 911 is now even sportier

Glittering form: The new Porsche Carrera GTS

With 408 HP, a high level of drivingdynamics and distinctive sportyfeatures, the new 911 Carrera GTSnow tops the Carrera model series.

Boasting an extra 23 HP compared withthe 911 Carrera S, the new GTS with3.8-litre engine closes the gap betweenthe former and the 911 GT3 with 435HP. Available as a Coupé or Cabriolet, this new top sports car not only hassporty enhancements but also comeswith an economic advantage: it doesn’tconsume any more fuel in the NewEuropean Driving Cycle (NEDC) than theCarrera S, thanks to Porsche IntelligentPerformance. It also comes at a prettyattractive price, considering the exten-sive serial equipment. The Porsche911 Carrera GTS celebrated its world

premiere at the beginning of October atthe Paris Motor Show.

Unique to the Carrera family, the 911Carrera GTS combines the Carrera 4body from the four-wheel drive models, which is 44 millimetres wider with awider track, and the classic rear-wheeldrive. It also differs visually and techni-cally from the other Carrera models inmany other ways. For example, itcomes with 19” RS Spyder wheels asstandard, which are painted black, fea-ture central locking and a shiny rimflange, and bear 305/30 ZR 19 tyreson the rear axle. Additional visual char-acteristics include the SportDesignfront trim with black painted spoiler lip, special black side skirts and CarreraGTS lettering on the doors and rear flap

that is either black or silver dependingon the exterior colour. The area be-tween the tailpipes at the rear is alsooffset in black. The driver and passen-ger sit in sport seats, whose centrepanels are covered with black Alcantara

Clears the way: The 3.8-litre Boxer engine with 408 HP

in conjunction with the series interiorcolour, “black Alcantara”. The high-qual-ity material is also used in the sporty in-terior that is predominantly black, in-cluding where driver and passengercome in direct contact with the vehicle– including on the steering wheel rim ofthe new three-spoke SportDesign steer-ing wheel, as well as the gear lever andhandbrake lever.

Special attention was paid to thecharge exchange process of the now408 HP, 3.8-litre Boxer engine: In thespecial ram air intake system, six vacuum-controlled flaps now switch betweenperformance and torque-optimisedgeometry, whereas this is performedby just one flap in the Carrera S drivegear. This means the unchanged maxi-mum torque of 420 Newton metres isreached at just 4200 rpm, 200 revolu-tions below the Carrera S. Enhance-ments have also been made to the ex-haust by means of the sports exhaustsystem with two independently exe-cuted double tailpipes, whose outer

shells are painted black, while the innerpipes are polished on the outside andnano-coated. The Carrera GTS comeswith a six-gear manual transmission asstandard; it can also be delivered withthe seven-gear Porsche Doppelkup-plung (PDK) on request. The top speed

with manual transmission is 306 km/h,4 km/h more than the Carrera S. Accel-eration from zero to 100 km/h gener-ally improves by 0.1 seconds, taking4.2 seconds in a GTS Coupé with PDKand the Sport Chrono Package Plus inSport Plus mode. The Carrera GTS withPDK has an NEDC fuel consumption of10.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of240 g/km.

The 911 Carrera GTS Coupé will besold in Germany for EUR 104,935, in-cluding country-specific equipment and19% VAT. The Cabriolet version willcost EUR 115,050. Both models will beavailable at dealerships in Germanyfrom December 2010.

4. Porsche reportsA trip to see Hans-Peter Porsche

Hans-Peter Porsche: A true personality celebrates his 70th birthday

Hans-Peter Porsche, the third of company founder FerryPorsche’s four sons, was born on 29th of October 1940 in Stuttgartand is celebrating his 70th birthday this year.

Porsche Club Coordination would liketo congratulate Hans-Peter Porsche onthis milestone birthday. We wish MrPorsche continued good health, for-tune and happiness, and are lookingforward to being able to welcome himas an honoured guest at many moreClub parades around the world.

On the occasion of this milestone birth-day, we would like to tell you moreabout Hans-Peter Porsche as well asoffer an insight into his private life andhis hobbies.

Professional progressionHans-Peter Porsche attended schoolfor six years in Stuttgart. Although hemaintains to this day that carpentry ishis “dream job”, he completed his pro-fessional training as an engineer in1963 at the engineering school inSalzburg. However, Hans-PeterPorsche remained true to his technical

creative side, because after he gath-ered a year of experience as the assis-tant to his father, he then took over themanagement of Production, Purchas-ing, Inspection and Engineering at Dr.Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG. When PorscheKG transformed into Porsche AG, thefamily members – including Hans-PeterPorsche – pulled out of management. In1978, he and his oldest brother FerdinandAlexander Porsche founded PorscheDesign Produkte Vertriebsgesellschaft, and he took on the position of manag-ing partner. Handing down to the nextgeneration, Hans-Peter Porsche left

the operative business and then the Su-pervisory Board of Porsche AutomobilHolding SE, and today devotes himselfto a diverse range of business activi-ties, with an emphasis on property in-vestment.

Enthusiasm for Porsche ClubsThe intense sense of unity Hans-PeterPorsche has with the Porsche Clubscene has long and far-reaching roots.Even in the early days of the Porschesports car, his father Ferry paid greatattention to the interests of his cus-tomers and enjoyed participating intheir first excursions and meetings. When the first Porsche Clubs were fi-nally founded, starting in 1952, and thePorsche Club concept quickly spreadacross the globe, it was Ferry who con-sidered the Porsche Club members es-pecially loyal friends of the brand, andalways listened to their concerns.

Hans-Peter Porsche obviously “inher-ited” this enthusiasm for the Porsche

Clubs, and continues to put his heartand soul into them. He wholly enjoyspersonally greeting and conversingwith Porsche Club members fromaround the world – often together withhis wife Kuni, his son Peter Daniell orhis brother Dr. Wolfgang Porsche. Many members have known Hans-PeterPorsche for years, so that it has be-

come a tradition that he visits diverseinternational Porsche Club events andvisibly enjoys doing so.

Even today he proudly looks back at hisparticipation in a total of 31 USA pa-rades and 10 European parades – andhappily remembers each and everyone, even the first.

Room of dreams: The “car showroom”of Hans-Peter Porsche

Colourful memories: The Porsche Club world is close to Hans-Peter Porsche’s heart

In 1960, together with his parents, hiscousin and his aunt, the then 20-yearold Hans-Peter Porsche headed to Aspenfor his first USA parade and indeedoverseas journey. And, as was typicalat the time, he travelled by ship. 33years later – in 1993 – Hans-PeterPorsche was accompanied by his 20-year old son, Peter Daniell, to the USAparade in Lake Placid. He and manymembers of the Porsche Club of Amer-ica are still visibly moved when theythink back to the moment on theevening when Peter Daniell made hisway onto the big stage and played thetransverse flute for the participants.

The fact that the Porsche family – nowin its fourth generation – valuesPorsche Clubs events in this way andcontinues to live the tradition with themin solidarity, is surely unique in the auto-motive world and is highly appreciatedby all Porsche Club members acrossthe world.

The passion and loyalty that PorscheClub members voluntarily apply to thecare of their vehicles and the Porschelegend fascinate Hans-Peter Porscheagain and again, and he returns thisvery same passion to the Porsche Clubworld. Not only can he remember pre-cisely every Porsche Club event he hasvisited, and tell humorous anecdotesabout each one, but he also carefullysaves every individual pin, each nametag, every grille badge and all the give-aways and gifts so that not one singleClub memory will be lost.

Hans-Peter Porsche, the passionate collector One year ago, Mr Porsche created awonderful home for these collector ob-jects: his private “car showroom”. Ac-cording to him, this showroom is thefulfilment of his very personal life’s

dream – a museum refuge in a modernstyle where everything rare and worthyof collecting is not only saved, but alsoskilfully staged and presented.

The basic idea for this showroom isformed by his impressive vehicle col-

lection, which includes 21 restored ve-hicles in top flawless condition. Hans-Peter Porsche especially values thefact that none of these are merely dec-orative exhibits; they are all regularlydriven. A Porsche has always been builtto drive, many even for racing. In hisprivate garage, there are also purerace cars, for example, a Porsche 550Spyder or his favourite Porsche, a red904 Carrera GTS.

Newer high-performance cars like theCarrera GT and GT2 round out the port-folio in terms of standard sports cars;their most frequent representative isthe Porsche 356 in various versions. But Hans-Peter Porsche also has roomfor exotic cars, and delights over hisKübelwagen and a VW Samba bus de-signed by Thomas Sabo that he ac-

quired at an auction at RTL raisingmoney to benefit children in need. He isespecially fascinated by his PorscheJagdwagen Type 597; no wonder thathe was especially happy about the hon-orary membership of Porsche Jadwa-gen Registry e.V. presented whenPorsche Club Coordination came tovisit, and immediately displayed thedecorative certificate in a prominentspot.

In view of this impressive collection ofvehicles, it almost goes without sayingthat Hans-Peter Porsche has filled his il-luminated showcases set up betweenthe vehicles with more than 1000Porsche model cars in all scales andwith the mementos of large PorscheClub events. Mr Porsche has dedicatedone showcase to the Porsche Club of

America and another to the PorscheEuropean parades, in which many sou-venirs reflect the experiences of 50years of Porsche Club life.

However, Hans-Peter Porsche does not“only” collect Porsche works. In hisown time, he dedicates undivided at-tention to additional collections – infact, some that are wholly “non-techni-cal”. One example: bears. His collec-tion encompasses not only over 200teddy bears in all colours and sizes –

Highlights: Mobility in a brilliant range of colours

the smallest measuring 1.5 cm and thelargest 2.65 m – but also includes over580 different ties with bear themes –naturally with matching handkerchiefs.

On the other hand, his extensiveMärklin train and tin toy collection –which includes many sought-afterunique items and very rare periodpieces – could be considered to betechnical. So it is no wonder that Hans-Peter Porsche has been thinking aboutdisplaying all these – to some extent ir-replaceable – collector’s pieces in hisown toy and model museum near Bad

Reichenhall and making them accessi-ble to the public in the future.

True to the motto “a joy shared is a joydoubled,” Hans-Peter Porsche wants toshare his life's joy and his passion forPorsche vehicles and its customerswith like-minded people and finds hiscounterpart in the worldwide PorscheClub scene, which likewise gladlyshares its enthusiasm with Hans-PeterPorsche. Porsche Club Coordinationwould like to offer Hans-Peter Porschea huge thank you for the friendly senseof unity he shares with Porsche Clubs

and we hope that the Porsche Clubfamily and the Porsche family will main-tain and care for this joint “familytheme” for a long time yet to come –many thanks Mr Porsche!

The Porsche Parade of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) in St. Charles, Illinois, from 3rd–9th of July 2010

A special “family gathering” takes place every July in the United States ofAmerica – the Porsche Parade of the PCA. This spectacle, which attractsPorsche Club members from all over America and Canada, met for the55th time in 2010. Every year somewhere different, each time somethingdifferent – but always the highlight of the calendar of the Porsche Club ofAmerica, the largest Porsche Club in the world.

Almost 1500 Porsche Club memberssoaked up the familiar atmosphere at thePheasant Run Resort this year, situatedabout an hour from Chicago and theevent’s centre stage. Quite a few skilfully“expanded” the visit to the parade andstayed here before and after the eventfor several days with the family – and thePorsche of course.

If members of the Porsche Club of Ame-rica attend the Club Parade for almost aweek, naturally there will also be repre-sentatives of Porsche AG and membersof the Porsche family there. We were the-refore particularly pleased to welcomeHans-Peter Porsche to the event. He hasa very close connection to the PCA pa-rade, and tries to attend every year ifpossible. He has already visited the pa-rade 31 times! And, if you see how muchfun he has while participating in the many

programmes, then surely many more pa-rades will follow. We can’t wait!

On the part of Porsche AG, AlexanderPollich (Head of Sales Network Develop-ment), Andreas Hencke (Head of Marke-ting Services) and Sandra Mayr (PorscheClub Coordination) were on site and en-joyed being integrated into the large “fa-mily” from the start. This was Mr Pollich’sfirst Porsche parade, and he was thrilledwith the enthusiasm and commitment ofthe Club members.

We would also like to mention Paul Gre-gor from Porsche Club Coordination, who strongly supported the Club fromthe start in the organisation of this highlysuccessful event.

Michael Bartsch and David Pryor wereamong those from Porsche Cars North

America taking part. Over the years, their commitment to the Porsche Club ofAmerica has led them to be among the“well-known faces” of the Club scene.

The opening night at DuPage Airport wasthe first surprise for the participants; it’snot every day you get to celebrate a Clubevent in an aeroplane hanger. The planemodels displayed in front of the hangarattracted particular attention. Many inter-esting items were represented: fromdouble-deckers to aerobatic planes tolight aircraft; these were presented to-gether with various Porsche models onthe airfield, and provided the impressivebackdrop of this varied evening.

The day after, Sunday, the participantshad to get up early as the Concoursd’Elégance was scheduled on the golfcourse of the Pheasant Run Hotel. Theyhad to remove the last trace of dust fromthe vehicles, clean the paint one moretime, and polish the rims, so that in theend a total of 138 vehicles were presen-ted to the jury in nearly new condition forevaluation. Over 300 additional Porscheswere displayed in the paddock andshone in the perfect sunshine.

Meanwhile, in the Porsche World that hadbeen set up, Porsche Club memberscould obtain information about the currentvehicle range or uncover the backgroundof the delivery specifications for theirPorsche model from “Owner Relations”.Those who wanted to could buy the latestproducts at Porsche Design Driver’sSelection or configure a completely indi-vidual set of equipment for their car atPorsche Exclusive & Tequipment. ThePorsche Club members were blown awayby the presentation of the new PorscheGT3 R Hybrid in front of Porsche World, the car that made its debut at this year’sNürburgring 24-hour race. Porsche Club

Coordination was able to fly the high-techdevelopment from Germany over the At-lantic – exclusively for this Porsche Parade– to be able to present it “personally"among Club friends.

The evening was an elegant one, as PCApresident Kurt Gibson invited everyoneto the noble Waterfront Baker Hotel. Im-pressively situated on the Fox River, thehotel provided the perfect ambience forending the day with a delicious meal andgood conversation, and marvelling at thefireworks in St. Charles for the 4th of Julyas the festive conclusion – it’s hard toimagine a better place for that.

The winners of the Concours d’Elégancewere announced the next evening at thehigh point of the parade, the sociableConcours Banquet. The awarding of prizesis the highlight of the parade for manyparticipants, since not only the nicest ve-hicles are selected, but many other pri-zes await the Porsche Club members. And so for years it has been a great tradi-tion of the event that Hans-Peter Porschepersonally presents the “family of theyear” award, among others. In addition, the guest speakers of the event – thisyear Alexander Pollich from Porsche AGand Michael Bartsch from Porsche CarsNorth America – have the opportunity toaddress the participants as part of thisevening. As always, Mark Shevitz provi-ded a perfect, warm and encouragingperformance as compere between thevarious items on the bill – thanks Mark!

Because the driving events at the paradeof the Porsche Club of America are ingreat demand, this year the organisationopened up the Autocross course – whichwas set up in the car park of the SearsCenter – for a day longer than planned.Altogether, those in charge counted 198drivers taking part in this competition. Asit has in previous years, official sponsor

Michelin also offered an interestingcomparison test: In the car park of thePheasant Run Hotel, you could experiencethe difference between Michelin Perfor-mance tyres and Michelin Sport tyres ona Porsche Boxster Spyder – hardly any-one passed up that opportunity.

Many other exciting programme items, such as a golf tournament on the hotel’sgrounds, an art competition, numeroustechnical quizzes as well as a children’sprogramme, provided sufficient enter-tainment. Acting as central contactpoints during the entire parade were the

universally known “Goodie Store” and thehotel’s hospitality area.

The event’s partners also gathered hereand presented their varied programmesand offers: In the hospitality lounge youcould purchase select Porsche DesignDriver’s Selection items – a wide selec-tion that was enriched by a special at-traction this year: the book by Peter Da-niell Porsche, “Ein Porsche geht aufReisen” (A Porsche Travels), which hisfather Hans-Peter Porsche signed on-siteand thus made it an unforgettable me-mento for many Club members.

Directly next door, at Porsche Exclusive& Tequipment, those who were tech-savvy could get information about the nu-merous opportunities to individualisetheir vehicles.

An unusual object that was displayed inthe hotel lobby received special attentionthis year: Porsche Classic and thePorsche Club of America displayed aPorsche 911 restoration object, which isbeing restored to its original conditionwithin a year by Porsche Classic in theWorks Restoration division of PorscheAG under the joint motto, “revive thepassion”.

During the next 12 months, Porsche en-thusiasts with a special weakness for vin-tage and classic cars have the uniqueopportunity to look over the shoulder ofthe specialists from the Porsche Classicworkshop while they work. There will bereports about the status of the restorationat regular intervals, until finally the finishedarticle will be raffled among the PCA

members at the next Porsche ParadeUSA in August 2011.

The exciting week met a successful endwith the Victory Banquet on the finalnight. All participants will happily remem-ber the experiences from this large “fa-mily gathering” for a long time to come.

We would like to offer our sincere thanksto the entire organisational team and thecountless volunteers for their tireless de-dication. Without the help of thesepeople, such an event could not be held, and the Porsche brand would not be acti-vely experienced to this degree.

We look forward to seeing you again atthe next Porsche Parade USA in Savan-nah, GA from the 31st of July to the 6thof August 2011!

AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix 2010

The 38th AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix – one of the most important motorsport events for historic vehicles – took place at theNürburgring from 13th–15th of August 2010. 650 racing cars fromseven decades of motorsport history were presented to a raptaudience of 60,000 spectators.

Porsche was represented by PorscheClassic, Porsche Exclusive & Tequipmentand Porsche Design Driver’s Selectionon the 14,000 square metre area in im-mediate proximity to the race track. Forthe first time, the Porsche Museum wason site with a stand. Porsche Classic, together with the selected partners,Bose, Kingeter, Mahle and Mobil 1, of-fered a wide range of information andentertainment to those visiting the spa-cious Porsche exhibition area.

As part of the beloved crane ride thatwas provided exclusively for the appro-ximately 750 Porsche VIP package hol-ders by Hendricks shippers, guestscould enjoy a spectacular view of the

Nürburgring. This lofty height afforded thebest view of the more than 400 Porschecustomer vehicles that were permittedto park around the Porsche exhibitiontent, divided into generations – also ahighlight for the Porsche VIP packageholders.

In the Porsche exhibition tent, PorscheClassic was particularly devoted to thetopic of body. The process of cathodicdip coating (CDC) was specially high-lighted within this context. An ageingPorsche 911 body (manufactured in1970) in a deplorable condition and anewly painted and CDC-treated body ofa Porsche 911 SCRS (manufactured in1983) showed the clear differences. This process was presented by a minia-ture model of the CDC bath, which wasenthusiastically greeted by visitors andwas very popular during the entireevent.

Another highlight of this year’s eventwas the exhibit of the Porsche museumvehicles 917 KH, 962 C and GT1.These Le Mans winners were displayedto mark the 40th anniversary of the first

Porsche overall victory at Le Mans –underlining the Porsche Classic eventsthis year. But this was certainly not all.The drivers of these vehicles, HansHerrmann and Derek Bell, also signedautographs and reported to enthusia-stic fans about their racing careers.

The exclusive hospitality area with itsown stand at the well-known Hatzen-bach section of the course rounded offthe offering from Porsche Classic. Thisarea put on culinary and cultural de-lights for the Porsche VIP package hol-ders throughout the weekend. On Sa-turday, the varied evening eventprovided the best entertainment. Thehigh points of the evening were the raf-fle with great prizes, for example theBose Wave Sound System, and the in-terviews with racing driver legendsHans Herrmann and Derek Bell, whospoke of their passion for Porsche.

All in all, the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix andthe impressive contribution of PorscheClassic received a great response fromthe visitors – the wonderful weather onthe first two days of the event probablyalso helped. Looking with glee towardsAugust 2011, the preparations for the39th edition of this motorsport highlightat the Nürburgring have already begun.

The 4th “Fete des Classics” in France, 12th–13th of June 2010 in LuberonA philosophical thesis from theyear 2010 questions whether it isnecessary to forget the past beforeyou can experience the future.

This thought may certainly be inter-esting, but for friends of classic auto-mobiles, a completely different state-ment applies: We lovers of classics donot want to forget the past so that weare well prepared for the future and un-derstand it.

It has now been four years since theidea was born to meet among peerswith classic Porsche vehicles in theLuberon region. It was certainly a chal-lenge to organise this idea, but it turned

out to be successful: over 100 vehiclesfollowed our call. And from 2007 on itgrew each year, and the event was lar-ger and more extensive each time.

In 2010 we reached our goal of welco-ming 120 vehicles to the small villageof Gordes.

The first twenty vehicles arrived in thevillage of Bédoin as early as Friday andenjoyed the good atmosphere amongtheir peers.

On Saturday, the legendary mountainracing circuit of Mont Ventoux awaitedthe participants. Those who didn’tknow this route and this mountain –

also called the “King of Provence” –were already overwhelmed with the hi-storical facts that wind around the fa-bled mountain like legends. A height of1600 metres is negotiated over appro-ximately 21 km, with the average in-cline over 7%. Automobile races wereheld on one of the most well-known pe-aks of the Tour de France until 1977,with an absolute record set in 1976 –an average speed of over 150 km/h!Over 60 vehicles registered for thisstage and gathered in the morning atthe foot of the mountain before headingoff to conquer it. The drivers and thePorsche sports cars had to deal withthe morning crispness, and a slight fogcooled the vehicles somewhat. All the

Porsche sports cars bravely masteredthe run; not one single car faltered.Even the real veterans – two Porsche356 models from 1951 and 1953 –climbed the peak without any signs ofexertion or effort.

After this exciting run, the participantsdrove back to Gordes and enjoyed aunique drive through the impressiveNesque gorge.

There was still plenty of time beforedinner to see the Gordes village and tohear the choral concerts before all theparticipants reviewed the events of theday and animatedly held “petrolheadtalks” late into the night.

Sunday greeted the guests with radiantsunshine. After a lavish breakfast, there was another excursion for theclassic sports cars – this time alongscenic villages to the Ansouis castle.

The Porsche Classics met there ingroups of 20 and were shown to their

Porsche Club Solothurn

Anniversary excursion to Stuttgart

For the 25th anniversary of the Porsche Club Solothurn, 25Porsche Club members in Egerkingen set off for Stuttgart on Friday 18th of June 2010.

The convoy with 14 vehicles (Boxsterand 911 models from various years)made its way forth despite the poor we-ather conditions so that the first stagetarget could be reached as planned. The detailed roadmap helped greatlywith this. We stopped for coffee and ba-ked goods at the Titisee in the BlackForest to sustain us for our ongoingjourney. We kept looking to the terraceright on the lake, but the streaming rainand cool temperatures wouldn’t allowus to sit outside.

Refreshed, we continued on the old Uh-renstrasse through the Black Forest to-wards Rottweil. Organiser Heinz Hürze-ler also included a stint on the Autobahnin the route so that we had the opportu-nity to really put our Porsches into gear.At the stop shortly before Stuttgart, wediscussed the course of the afternoon, where most of us decided on the directroute to the hotel.

In Asperg, the Adler Hotel was an excel-lent place to stay, with further membersjoining the Club here. We occupied thegenerously sized rooms before quicklyheading for an aperitif in Asperg’s “cen-tre”. The joint dinner provided the op-portunity to enjoy Swabian specialties, with Maultaschen soup and steak withonions accompanied by Spaetzle beco-ming our firm favourites. The eveningended with a cosy night cap.

At 9:00 on Saturday, we made our wayto the highlight of the weekend – the vi-sit to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Even highly placed ex-

pectations were not even remotely dis-appointed! Porsche Club Coordinationprovided us with free admission as wellas audio guides, which explained the ex-hibits on show and the Porsche legend. You could literally see the successfulrace car history of the Porsche brand, and quite a few of us would have lovedto jump into one of the vehicles and justzoom off. However, we reverently madedo with standing there, taking photosand talking shop. Next, while visiting thePorsche Centre across the street, wealso saw the current model range.

In the course of the afternoon, the Clubwent to the nearby Monrepos castle, where a wine-tasting awaited us in thewinery of the Duke of Württemberg. Thanks to the very flexible load spaceof the Porsche sports cars, we were ea-sily able to stow several cases of winein our cars.

Back at the Adler Hotel, we “freshenedup” for the gala dinner. In the wonder-fully decorated hall, there was a sub-stantial Asperger regional buffet withdelicacies of all kinds for the hungryClub members. At this point, we would

like to offer our sincere thanks to PorscheSwitzerland for its generous support, which covered the cost of the gala eve-ning. Several enjoyed a final drink at thehotel bar before ending this varied andextremely interesting day.

After eating breakfast together on Sun-day morning, we gradually made ourway back to Switzerland. Several Clubmembers gave their Porsches free reinon the Autobahn; others enjoyed thebeautiful scenery of Swabia and theBlack Forest in peace on the return trip.

In addition to thanking Porsche for thegenerous support, we would also like tooffer a huge thank you to the organiser,Heinz Hürzeler, for his extensive prepa-rations and the perfect anniversary ex-cursion. Thank you very much!

The third race of the enthrallingAmerican Le Mans series (ALMS)took place on the legendary LagunaSeca Raceway in Monterey, andprovided a spectacular setting for exciting motorsport of the highest order.

Obviously, the “Porscheplatz tent” can-not be missing from such a significantevent. It has for many years been estab-lished as the beloved meeting spot forPorsche Club members during the ALMSseries.

On the Friday, 73 vehicles arrived at this“family gathering”; on Saturday this rose

to an astounding 143. From the 356 tothe Panamera, from several GT3s tobrand new Turbo and Cayman modelsright up to the rare classic Porschesports cars, the Porsche product rangewas represented from all angles. We re-ceived amazing support from PorscheCentre Monterey, which displayed thenew Porsche Boxster Spyder, twoPanameras and a Carrera, among oth-ers, in front of the tent.

All in all, the “Porscheplatz” providedover 250 Porsche lovers with a relaxedenvironment to forge friendships withpeers and hear interesting presenta-tions. It also offered protection from the

of the event – next to the ALMS race –Porsche Club members were permittedto drive two laps in their own car and ex-perience the famous corkscrew. 101teams seized this once-in-a lifetime op-portunity, and so the raceway filled withPorsche sports cars of all generationsand colours – a truly impressive sight!

But it is not only this experience that willremain in our memories for a long timeto come. Friday provided a true highlightas the Porsche race drivers – PatrickLong and Jörg Bergmeister from the Fly-ing Lizard team and Bryan Sellers andWolf Henzler from the Falcon team – vis-ited our “Porscheplatz” tent and re-ported on the race, the preparations andtechnology of the Porsche race cars.

Detlev von Platen, head of Porsche CarsNorth America and Hartmut Kristen, UweBrettel and Paul Ritchie from PorscheMotorsports North America surprisedthe “Porscheplatz” guests on Saturday

and informed them of the interesting rac-ing news along with Porsche partnersMichelin and Mobil 1.

Michelin made a traditional gesture: atyre set was raffled among the

“Porscheplatz” visitors who had travelledthe farthest with their Porsche. Thistime, the winner was a family that hadtravelled almost 2000 km from BritishColombia in their Porsche 997 Targa.

The six-hour race was very exciting andended with an experience that appealedto all Porsche fans: a victory for thePorsche team, Flying Lizard Motorsportwith drivers Patrick Long and JörgBergmeister, in the GT class. A perfectend to a great “Porscheplatz” weekend.

Le Mans Classic 2010: The superlatives of the Classic world do the honours

Held every two years by the venerable Automobilclub de l’Ouestsince its inception in 2002, the LeMans Classic has established itselfas the largest and most multi-face-ted Old Timer race in the world. From 9th–11th of July, approxima-tely 470 classic race cars met onthe legendary track for the fifthedition of the fast-pace racingspectacle.

In contrast to the classic race, the 24hours of Le Mans, the old Classic ra-cers no longer chase after the best ti-mes for a full 24 hours; instead the oldrace cars head to the start line in se-quence in six different groups over thecourse of the entire event – which lastsexactly 24 hours. The race of onegroup ends after 45 minutes, so thatthe next group can start. This proce-dure is repeated over and over – roundthe clock – until the 24 hours are up.

Only those vehicle models whose typeactually participated in the 24 hours ofLe Mans between 1923 and 1979 mayparticipate. Porsche has the largest

number of classic race car model rangesthat can participate, with 108 appro-ved types and years of manufacture. This is particularly reflected in the star-ting grids for the 50s, 60s and 70s.

This was a huge delight to the Porschefans and Club members – who oftentravel from a great distance – whocheered their dream sports cars alongthe track and took in the exemplary ra-cing air.

Those who wanted could obtain specialtickets from Porsche Club France allo-wing them to park their own Porsche inthe infield of the race track – directlynext to the Porsche representation – ina blocked-off Porsche Club parking area.

Naturally, Porsche fans and PorscheClub members couldn’t pass this up, sonear-to 1100 Porsches were preregi-stered for this exclusive offer and filledall available Porsche parking spaces.

The Porsche Club parking zone provi-ded an extra highlight for the onlookersin addition to the actual event; the seaof Zuffenhausen sports cars displayeda great array of select rarities thatwere strung together like pearls acrossthe huge event area. A number of PorscheCarrera GT, 959, 997 Sport Classicsas well as top notch Classics like a 904Carrera GTS and 911 Carrera RSR werepresented to the interested onlookersin the glorious sunshine.

But Porsche offered much more thanjust the largest brand presence of theentire event (more than 1100 of the8000 vehicles displayed were Porsches).

In large, airy tents, Porsche Classicpresented a highly interesting restora-tion object, a Porsche 911 SCRS,whose perfect body was displayed inthe restoration status after the CDC pri-ming. With this, Porsche Classic de-monstrated the high quality standardand the detail precision as can only beimplemented by a restoration in themanufacturer’s plant itself. In addition,French and German contacts were onhand to answer any questions aboutspare parts and technical literature.

In the tent across the way, Porsche Ex-clusive used several highly equippedand customised vehicles to inform visi-tors of the almost limitless opportuni-ties to design a Porsche to meet perso-nal requirements. Porsche’s partnerBOSE provided brought music to ourears, allowing us to listen to examplesof various audio systems.

The Porsche Museum had somethingspecial for the occasion. June 2010was the 40th anniversary of the first

overall victory of a Porsche race car inthe 24 hour race of Le Mans – fifteenadditional Porsche overall wins follo-wed up to 1998. The Porsche Museumran with this 40th anniversary themeand presented various Porsche racecars from the museum collection, all ofwhich had achieved overall victories inthe Le Mans. This included two Porsche917s, a Porsche 936, a Porsche 956and a GT1.

Yet, what were the cars without theirdrivers of old, who fearlessly fought forvictory? And so, next to the racingicons, their respective drivers also metin the Porsche tent as they patientlygave their cheering fans autographs orgranted interviews. Particularly draw-ing crowds was the “Dream Team” –the first Porsche overall winners, com-prising the Porsche 917 with the star-ting number 23 and its drivers HansHerrmann and Richard Attwood.

The Porsche lounge tent providedsome cooling off during the hot duels

on the race track, with temperaturesclearly above 30 degrees in the shade. With cool drinks, plenty of shade andcomfortable designer furniture, it wasthe most pleasant way possible towhile away the hours at the race trackright into the evening. Many Club mem-bers enjoyed taking in the impressionsand flair of the historic racing in andaround the Circuit de Sarthe until lateat night.

Le Mans Classic is and undoubtedly re-mains the European racing event forclassic treasures – and a “Mecca” forPorsche fans from all around the world.

A huge thank you to all members of theorganisational team from Porsche ClubFrance and Porsche France that mas-terminded this huge event together insolidarity with tireless commitment andprovided the visitors with an unforgettableexperience. Last but not least, PorscheClub Coordination would like to thankall participating Club members, withoutwhose participation such an impressivebrand appearance would not have evenbeen possible.

Porsche 914 Clubs

International Porsche 914 Meeting, 4th–7th of June 2010 in Wales, Great Britain Following in the footsteps of Switzer-land and Germany, Great Britain wasthe host of the International Porsche914 Meeting in 2010, an event open tothe entire European Porsche 914 Clubscene. And where better to celebratesuch an occasion than in a wonderfulhotel owned by a 914 enthusiast?

The centre of the gathering was theRoyal Oak Hotel in Symonds Yat, whichinvited participants to a relaxed stay di-rectly on the romantic Wye River in themost beautiful surroundings.

Like a many-coloured string of pearls, almost 60 superbly maintained Porsche914s shone in the sunlight as they pre-sented themselves during the musicalreception on Friday afternoon. 49 teamsalready had a longer trip behind them, having crossed the Channe – albeit notunder their own steam – and were visi-bly delighted to be reunited with lots ofClub friends upon arrival.

In order to experience more of Britain’snatural beauty, some participants ex-tended their stay and enjoyed a week’sholiday either before or after the event.

Upon seeing so many beautiful cars, our record keeper became wistful; hehad sold his Porsche 914/6 approxima-tely two years ago to obtain a Porsche356, which was warmly welcomed intothe rows of 914s since it was “one ofthe family”.

After making sure that every participa-ting Porsche Classic had an officialevent label, the teams were greeted onthe manicured lawn in front of the hotelwith a champagne reception.

A warm British summer evening withdelicious barbeque kicked off the event

and increased the anticipation for thedays ahead.

Thanks to the support of the PorscheCentre Bristol and Cardiff, main organi-ser Ian Foster received an ideal organi-sation and lead vehicle, a PorschePanamera. It was actually intended tocollect broken-down vehicles and pas-sengers, but things turned out ratherdifferently: irreparable break-downs onthe route were a rare occurrenceamong the reliable Porsche 914s, butthe Porsche Panamera was so well re-ceived by the participants that Ian wasseldom alone in the car. Many 914drivers wanted to experience the spa-ciousness in all four seats of thePanamera sports car and enjoy theride. One member was so enthusedabout the overall sporty impressionthat he wanted to order a PorschePanamera directly after this weekend.

Even the subsequent days didn’t pro-duce the typical British weather so thePorsche 914 armada moved along in

unison, the wheels crossing tiny streetsalong the Wye Valley to Tintern andover Big Pit to Blaenavon.

A stop at an old train station was welco-med by many; here they could get freshcoffee and a huge piece of homemadecake. It was easy for the participants toforget that they still had a long way to go.

The next stop in Big Pit offered a typicalWelch lunch enjoyed by all, with anyideas of a “trim figure” soon quashed. Those who wanted could next take anexcursion into the “underworld”: with avisit to an old mine. It seemed unimagi-nable that not long ago, children wereused in this inhospitable place to knockor drag stone day and night. Daylightmust have been an alien word to thosepoor souls.

Back in the hotel, all participants hadplenty of time to inspect the many won-derful Porsche 914s or to simply enjoyan ice cream under the sunny blue sky.The more adventurous took a canoe

trip on the Wye River, while those see-king a more relaxed experience en-joyed a boat tour on the same or simplytook a riverside walk.

The Saturday evening programme hadmany impressive highlights: Maybe itwas the fresh cider from the local breweryor simply the great performance fromthe live band, but the whole evening hadsuch a fantastic atmosphere and peoplepartied and danced into the night.

Even though the road book decreed anearly start and some tricky navigationthe next morning, all teams were intheir cars on time with their engineswarming up in anticipation. The nextsurprise scheduled after a photo toget-her was a mountain racing circuit.

It stands to reason that a number ofparticipants seized the chance to testthe fabulous handling of their cars andto venture a “hot ride” on the mountain.Jonathan Willamson, who himself haswon several mountain race champion-ships, showed us how it's done.

After the tyres and engines had cooledoff again, there was a collective excur-

sion to the club house of the PorscheClub Great Britain, where Club presi-dent Andrew Kenyon was ready andwaiting to give the participants a tour ofthe impressive property. It was here thatthe president announced to the otherPorsche 914 Clubs the sites of the nextInternational Porsche 914 Meetingsand thanked the organisation of the2010 meeting for the varied pro-gramme and excellent organisation.

The friendly cohesion of the Porsche914 “family” was seen anew when thepresident of the German 914 Club, UdoBreuer, had his fuel pump irreparablypack up on the way back to the hotel –much to the disappointment of Udo,who had important business appoint-ments in Germany on Monday morning.

As per the motto “there are no pro-blems, just solutions”, various Clubmembers worked out the followingplan: Udo and his wife were driven di-rectly to the airport in Birmingham inthe Porsche Panamera, where a flightto Germany was already booked. Udo’sPorsche 914 would be safely stowedon the trailer by the owner of our eventhotel in the hotel garage.

The next morning, on Monday, the firstpeople said goodbye and steered to-wards home. However, the majority de-cided to enjoy the sociable atmosphereand wonderful countryside, and embar-ked on a journey of discovery into theworld of whisky distilleries, which aretypical to this region. After the lastlunch together, there was an official fa-rewell. A special thanks goes above allto the sponsors of this event and Clubmembers Chris and Pauline Palmer, who were on the spot immediately atevery stop and took impressive photosof every participant’s vehicle in the un-forgettable countryside. All the photoscan be seen in the picture gallery onour event website: www.914international.com.

The next Porsche International 914Meeting will take place in June 2011 inReims, France. We are already lookingforward to it, and hope that everythingruns smoothly for the organisers.

Porsche Club Paderborn

Tour – Nature – Culture: The Bodensee excursion of the Porsche Club Paderborn

Perfect preparation!First of all, huge praise for Horst and UlrikePlatzhoff, the organisers of the PorscheClub Paderborn summer trip! We havenever been so perfectly prepared for aPorsche Club Paderborn event. It’s notjust that Horst prepared an extraordina-rily interesting programme; oh no, wealso received a fascinating introductionto the Aida performance on the floatingstage at Bregenz on CD; all questionsregarding the dress code were answe-red in detail and, 10 days before depar-ture, we even received the vignette forthe Austrian motorways posted to ourhome...

Rothenburg ob der TauberAt 9:30 on the dot, the participants ofthe convoy gathered at the ADACgrounds of our racing official, MichaelBartz. At a leisurely pace, the drive

went over 340 kilometres to Rothen-burg ob der Tauber, where a tasty lunchat the Eisenhut Hotel refreshed us forthe tasks ahead. The organisers some-how managed to get permission for usto park our Porsches directly on the hi-storic town hall square! And so, our ve-hicles even surpassed the attractive-ness of the medieval alleys andChristmas shops for a short time.Throngs of tourists crowded aroundour Porsches and took pictures ofthemselves in front of, behind and nextto them. In the meantime, we were ta-ken by expert guides through the inter-esting history of Rothenburg.

Lindau (Bodensee)Two hours and 240 kilometres farthersouth, we reached Lindau (Bodensee) atan appropriate speed. In the BayerischerHof Hotel, the remaining tour partici-

pants and the wife of the president metus for a walk and coffee on the hotelterrace. We enjoyed a wonderful viewof the Lindau port and beyond the lakeover to Bregenz. We then enjoyed acosy evening in the excellent hotel re-staurant. The president’s address wasmet with much approval, but was toppedby the announcement that the Club wascovering the costs for the evening com-pletely! In typical Porsche Club Pader-born fashion, the evening ended withpetrol talk at the hotel bar.

Tour — NatureAfter a hefty breakfast, we left Lindauon Saturday via the Pfänder tunnel. Fol-lowing in the tracks of the “SilvrettaClassic 2010”, we drove via Feldkirchand Bludenz on to Schruns, St. Gallen-kirchen and Partennen. The next chal-lenge of the excursion was the legen-dary Silvretta high alpine road, with itsgrandiose panorama, 34 turns, 1000-metre altitude and gradients of up to14%, which we mastered with a wholeload of driving pleasure. 2000 metresup on the Bielerhöhe, the participantswere literally speechless at the view ofSilvrettasee, Piz Buin and Fluchthörner. With a sporty drive, we continued viathe Arlbergpass to St. Anton, Zürs andLech. At the foot of the Bodenalpe, weindulged in the excellent regional cui-sine before we took off again via theHochtannbergpass and Bezau back toLindau.

CultureWith a view of the Lindau port, we ate alight dinner before we went by ship tothe Bregenz floating stage. The ship an-chored right by the stage and we were

immediately captivated by the gran-diose backdrop. Despite opposing fore-casts, the weather held up beautifullyand the Aida performance actually tookplace outside – just as we had hoped.Deeply impressed, we reviewed thisunique evening later at the hotel bar,and looked forward to the experiencesof the day to come.

BlaubeurenThe return trip north took us via Kress-bronn along the Bodensee shore toBlaubeuren, where we saw the legen-dary Blautopf. The Blautopf is a placeof legends. It was said that the waterwas that colour because a vat of inkwas poured into it daily. Blautopf is theGermany’s second largest spring, afterthe Aachtopf. The high water pressurehas resulted in a funnel-shaped sourceover time, which reaches a depth of upto 21 metres. The intense blue colourresults from the light scattered over thelime-saturated water. Full of many im-pressions and memories of a lovely fewdays, we headed home from Blaube-uren via the Autobahn.

Bottom lineIt wasn’t just the preparation of Tour –Nature – Culture that was perfect. Theorganisation during the excursion wasgreat too! At every point in time, we feltvery much at home. One of our own,Karin, summed it up perfectly:

We offer our sincere praise to the orga-nisers, Horst and Ulrike Platzhoff. Thank you very much!
