Hosea 14:9 Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But
transgressors will stumble in them.
The Lord is always right, now let's follow His lead. Here is the other option;
Prov. 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
I would like to thank all those who volunteered in making the Mobile Dental/Medical program such a great success. May the Lord be glorified.
Essentials of Spiritual Leadership #4 – Being an Example People will Follow The Famous theologian “Clint Black” in his hit recording says, “Love isn’t something that we’re in, it’s
something that we do.” Being an example is not limited to the words we say but in the way those words play
out as actions in our lives.
Jesus says in John 13:15-17, “For I have given you an example that you should do as I have done to you.
Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who
sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” In the case of Jesus, His words were lived
out in His actions. In these verses He is encouraging us to follow His example.
Paul continually reminded the churches that they should follow the example that he and his followers had
presented while with them. In 2 Thessalonians 3:7 Paul reminds the Church at Thessalonica that, “For you yourselves know
how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you.”
In 1 Timothy 4:12 Paul encourages the young Timothy to “be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit,
in faith, in purity.” Here Paul lays out a list of areas that are critical to Timothy’s ministry and are a general guideline to all
Christians.
But it all comes back to love. At the Last Supper Jesus set the ultimate goal when he said in John 13:34-35, “A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will
know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
As spiritual leaders we must set the example whether in the home, in church, at work, or just as we move through our daily
routine. It all begins with sacrificial love.
I want to continue to express our appreciation to all for your faithful support. We see God moving in such powerful ways and it is truly a blessing to be a part of His kingdom work. As you will see in this month’s newsletter the medical mission was a success! We saw over 250 people have their physical and spiritual needs attended to in a remarkable manner. Just a few days later I attended the one year anniversary of Be the Message Church, a new church start. I heard two people give powerful testimo-nies about the transformation God has brought into their lives through that church’s ministry. A few days later the church had over 400 students gather at the local high school to hear about the love of God and learn about Jesus Christ and His desire for their lives. That pretty much summarizes why
we all cooperate together. People having genuine needs met, lives are transformed, and those without Christ are touched with the message of His salvation. It would have been hard for any single church to do that, but cooperating together we see many churches reaching their communities here in the Inland Empire. I might add that we also have churches from the Coachella Valley coming in, we look forward to seeing how God opens doors for ministry and mis-sions in that region.
One more item of note, we are going to have the Annual Meeting this year on a Sunday night, November 11th. There
is information in the newsletter. The plan at this point is to have a worship service, message, brief report about the
Association’s year and proposed budget, then close with prayer for 2013, asking God to bless our churches, minis-
tries and future church plants in this region. The Sunday night meeting is an experiment. I truly hope you can come
and join us in what should prove to be a night of celebration!

ADIESTRADOS PARA LA EXCELENCIA
The thirteenth annual Adiestrados para la Excelencia Hispanic training event will be this Saturday, October 6. If you
haven’t pre-registered, it’s fine to register on site, just come and sign up when you arrive. The cost is $35.00 per person
and includes your lunch, provided by IN-N-OUT Burger. There will be 13 conferences this year. The keynote speaker
will be Victor Pulido. You can find all of the information on our website at www.adiestradosparalaexcelencia.org, or
in the publicity packet that was mailed to all of our Hispanic churches. The conference will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a
continental breakfast, bookstore, and exhibits. The event will conclude at 3:00 p.m. We will meet at Magnolia Avenue
Baptist Church, 8351 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside.
SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR’S MEETING
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13th at the associational office. At the last meeting we had 21 English speakers and
about 25 in the Spanish group. Claudio and I will be presenting the same material this time too. We will discuss How to Make Sure Your
People Stay Connected and Involved. We will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Thanks to First Baptist Church in Rialto, Mark Baur, Pastor and Hemet Valley Baptist Church, Dale Garland, Pastor; for hosting our
recent Sunday School Preparation and Training Conferences. We also want to thank the conference leaders who worked hard to prepare
and present their material. We had a very good attendance this year. Those who attended received some great information and
inspiration.

We just completed the Mobile Dental/Medical day in Yucaipa, and it was a great
blessing. We were able to provide a much needed service to the community and
many of our church members. We had 20 fully equipped dental chairs, an ex-ray
room, a medical staff, and information on different county programs. We also had
music, free Bibles, prayer teams, and God's word proclaimed. As a result 20 people
were saved. There was a total of 203 volunteers, 12 churches from our association
were involved along with several other evangelical churches.
We would like to thank the California Southern Baptist Convention for providing the
necessary funds for this program. We would also like to thank the many agencies
who supported this event, and all of the volunteers who helped the event run
smoothly. This is a wonderful example of the blessing we receive through the
Cooperative Program.

Life Hurts God Heals (LHGH) LHGH is a great opportunity for students (6th thru 12th grade) with pain in their lives. LHGH takes students on a 13 week journey to help them process and discuss some of life’s toughest issues. Leaders will help students struggling with self-esteem, family issues, peer pressure, bullying, temp-tations in harmful behaviors and much more.

RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Jordanian authorities are investigating the death of Southern Baptist worker
Cheryll Harvey, whose body was discovered in her apartment in Irbid, Jordan, on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Foul play has been confirmed in the death of the 55-year-old single woman from Texas.
Harvey had served the Jordanian people for 24 years, demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ
through teaching English and other subjects in connection with the Jordan Baptist Society.
"Cheryll was greatly loved by both our personnel in the Middle East and by her many students," IMB
President Tom Elliff said. "We are faced once again with a sobering reminder of the brevity of life
and the importance of faithfully serving the Lord to the very end of our time on earth. Cheryll has left
for us a great example that we should follow.
"She ... will always be remembered for her quiet and unassuming spirit, as well as her passion for sharing the Good News," Elliff said.
Harvey was a member of College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas, and grew up attending First Baptist Church in Sudan,
Texas. Family and colleagues in the United States have been notified and await word about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Harvey is survived by two brothers who reside in Texas.
"As with any event such as this, it is imperative that we remember Cheryll's surviving family members and friends," Elliff said, "and that we
lift them up in prayer during these days. We best honor her by giving honor to the Lord Whom she so faithfully served."
Robert Roecker, pastor of First Baptist Sudan, said the church is in a "state of shock." Harvey had visited her childhood church several
times since Roecker became pastor, offering slideshows of her work in the Middle East.
A friend of Harvey's relayed to him that "Cheryll talked about how when she retired she might just stay in Jordan. She just really loved it
there and loved the people."
"The thing that always astounded us was when you heard her speak she was just a meek and mild person with just a soft voice," Roecker
recalled. "It's not the picture you have in your mind of someone who is on the front lines in Jordan. To have that courage and faith was
amazing to us. The folks who knew her here were always saying how surprised they were at what was God was able to do through her."
LaDelta Vernon, Harvey's third-grade teacher who would often talk to her while when Harvey came home on occasional furloughs, said
she always imagined the quiet, well-behaved girl with the distinctive laugh would grow up and raise three daughters. As it turned out, she
never married. She was a helper, Vernon said, so her teaching English wasn't a surprise. Her teaching it in the Middle East was, however.
"She was a good student. If she was your friend, she was your best friend. She didn't talk behind people's back. She was just a sweet,
sweet girl," Vernon said. "She was doing what she wanted to do, what God called her to do."
