Across the United States, fewer Americans were without health insurance in 2012 (15.4% of the population), compared to 2011 (15.7%). The percentage of uninsured Americans has been decreasing since 2010.
In contrast, the percentage of uninsured Pennsylvanians increased from 2011 to 2012 to 12.0% (10.8% in 2011).
The number of uninsured persons nationwide decreased by more than 662,000 in 2012, from 48.6 million (2011) to 47.9 million (2012) representing a 1.4% decrease.
In Pennsylvania, there were 156,000 more people without health insurance in 2012 compared to 2011 representing a nearly 11% increase.

In 2012, the percentage of Pennsylvanians covered by private, employer-based health insurance reached an all time low of 59.5%. In 2000, 71% of Pennsylvanians were covered by employer-based health insurance.
Nearly 16% (one in six) working-age (18-65)Pennsylvanians were without health insurancein 2012.
The rate of uninsurance among working age (18-65) Pennsylvanians is at an all-time high of 15.9%. There were 1,281,000 persons of a population of more than 8 million in thisage group without health insurance in 2012.
