FROM THE PASTOR

1 ChroniCleS 16:7-12, 23-27
David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving
7 Then on that day David first appointed the singing of praises to the Lord by Asaph and his kindred.
8 O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works. 10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 11 Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually. 12 Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgements he uttered,
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Tell of his salvation from day to day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples. 25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;he is to be revered above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 27 Honour and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.
There is a lot to be thankful for and I am. I believe First Lutheran as a whole is also thankful. As I write this message, I have been here serving as your pastor exactly one month. Sandy and I feel very blessed by the reception we have received. The celebrations continued this past Sunday wonderful music, scripture and the inspiring and entertaining painting service we had, not to mention the great meatball dinner. We were very impressed by the giftedness we have here.
This coming Sunday we have bishop Steve Delzer to install me. I think of that as a celebration of the whole congregation as well. For some reason
this installation will be the most meaningful for me in my ministry.
There is a lot more going on here at First besides the celebrations and I am enjoying it. During this time I am seeking to get to know all of you as well as the ministry you have here in service to Jesus. We will strive to find our way together as the family and body of Christ. Let us: 23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Tell of his salvation from day to day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples.
Yours in Christ,Pastor Arte

Reserve Sunday, October 4 to walk in the local CROP Walk to raise money for CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.) The walk begins at Central Park at 1:00 p.m. and is a round trip of about 3 miles.
The CROP Walk is a way for us to raise awareness and to gain a new perspective on how people in other countries have to walk many miles every day just to get the water they need. We are hoping to get many people to walk and raise money. Any size donation is welcome; it all adds up. So strap on your walking shoes or consider making a donation to this worthy cause!
First Lutheran volunteers are needed to walk, collect donations, and to work that day. Interested? See Nancy Thorson, Jean Fjelsted or Mary Weberg.

PACKING FOR THE WEEKENDSunday, October 4th will be “Packing for the Weekend” day. Packing for the Weekend is a program designed to feed children who do not have reliable access to food on non-school days. For many children school breakfast and lunch are the only meals they can count on.
Each family involved in the Packing for the Weekend program will receive a bag of food that will feed the number of children in their household for the weekend. Working with the Channel One Food Bank and Live Healthy Red, special attention was given to ensuring the meals have nutritional value, are easy to prepare and can be carried home in a child’s backpack.
Our Free Will offering today will go to the United Way for this worthwhile program. Your dollars can buy more food, through Channel One Food Bank than if you paid grocery store prices.
First Lutheran will be packing these backpacks three times during this school year.
