THE BJS BEACON BOLINGER’S BULLHORN
You often hear of companies, schools, and churches having a vision
statement, but what is the purpose of a vision? Our vision state-
ment at Baytown Junior School articulates the school we are striv-
ing to become. Our vision gives us direction and helps describe our
future. Though there are several key items in our vision that ad-
dress our future direction, I would like to point out one specific sen-
tence. It states, “We have a collaborative culture where we work
and learn together in order to improve learning for all students.”
This sentence is particularly meaningful because it highlights two
foundational elements of our school culture at Baytown Junior:
collaboration and learning for all. Creating a collaborative culture
means that the students at Baytown Junior are not “your kids” or
“my kids” depending on who students have for a teacher, but ra-
ther they are our kids regardless of the assigned teacher. Our
teachers work together in teams to ensure that all of our students
are learning. This involves teachers sharing resources, strategies,
lessons, and students with each other. We work and learn together
so that we have ownership of our students’ learning. Improve
learning for all students requires teachers work together in teams to
review student performance and figure out how to provide addi-
tional instruction and support for those who need it. Our school
does not exist to provide a place for teachers to teach, but rather
we exist to provide a place for students to learn.

“The earth without art is just, eh”
Our BJS 6th grade art classes entered the “beautify the buck-et” contest in Galveston! Students studied marine wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico and completed a square drawing which
made up the bucket. Our Goslins placed 3rd in the youth divi-sion! BJS will have their bucket placed on the beach for all to
see for years to come! Great job Ms. Bissell and her hard working classes.

REACH OUT FOR DROP OUTS Check out our amazing staff members who donated their Saturday to reach out for drop outs. The reach out walk is an effort to get stu-dents to come back to school. When a student fails to show up for class at the beginning of the school year, volunteers go to the homes of these students and offer the encouragement and resources they need in order to get on track.

BAND PERFORMS DURING FOOTBALL! Our BJS band learns what it is like to be a true band student in high school by performing during the football game last Tuesday! Our band sounds amazing as they work on concert tunes as well as prepar-ing to pump up the campus during sporting events and pep-rallies!
