Women over 60 are already at a greater risk for osteoporosisthan men, and Tufts University researchers found thatdrinking soda, including diet soda, compounds the problem. They discovered that female cola drinkers had nearly 4%lower bone-mineral density in their hips than women who

didn't drink soda. The research even controlled for theparticipants' calcium and vitamin D intake. Additionally, astudy published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionfound that cola intake (all kinds, not just diet) was associatedwith low bone-mineral density in women.

Danny and I met the summer he came back from boot camp in 1970. Danny was agroomsman in a mutual friend's wedding, and I was a guest. My best friend was abridesmaid in the same wedding, and Danny asked her out to a rodeo in Dime Box,Texas. She did not want to go alone so she told Danny she would go if he fixed meup on a blind date. So, he did fix me up with a friend of his, and off to the rodeo wewent. By the end of the evening, Danny and his date and I and my date weren’thitting it off at all, so we exchanged dates, and as they say, the rest is history.

We married on November 18, 1972, and were blessed with two children. We havefour grandchildren. Danny worked for Central Freight Lines in Waco for many years. When they opened the terminal in Lubbock, we were asked to transfer. Eventually,Danny quit Central and went to work for Walmart Transportation in Plainview. Dannydrove trucks for 22 years before his death. Danny's passion was horses and rodeos.

In his younger years, he rode broncos and bulls. Through our years together, we enjoyed going to rodeos, horsebackriding, camping, boating and fishing.

Danny went to our Lord on July 9, 2013.

I am so blessed by Santos, Gayle and the Lake Ridge Ladies for helping me through this next phase of my life.

Hearing Loss

The impact of hearing loss is of great concern. Hearing loss makes it difficult to hear in a variety oflistening environments. If left untreated, hearing loss not only affects communication, but depressionand isolation can also occur. In addition, even individuals with mild hearing loss are twice as likely todevelop dementia, and the risk of memory loss increases with the severity of loss. In a six-year study,

the cognitive abilities of older adults (age 75 to 84) was tracked. The cognitive abilities of those individuals with hearing lossdeclined 30%-40% faster than that of older adults whose hearing was found to be normal. On average, older adults with hearingloss developed a significant impairment in their cognitive abilities 3.2 years sooner than those with typical hearing. With all thatbeing said, more individual will be fit with hearing aids in the next 10-30 years than ever before.

It is very important to have a baseline hearing evaluation to determine if hearing loss is present. If hearing loss isdiagnosed, and there are no medical conditions that need to be treated, hearing aids can be used to treat hearing loss andtinnitus (ringing in the ears). Hearing aid technology has improved immensely over the last few years. Hearing aids are smaller, able to be prescriptively fit, water resistant, and Bluetooth compatible. These are just a few of the features new technology hasto offer.

At Beltone Hearing Center, we offer free hearing testing and our award-winning hearing aid technology. All BeltoneHearing aids come with our Belcare service, which includes: lifetime service, nationwide service, 3-year repair warranty and lossand damage coverage, free office visits, yearly hearing tests and wax removal as needed. We accept most insurances and havefinancing available to assist our patients with the purchase of hearing aids. Our goal at Beltone is to help our patients find asuitable hearing aid within their budget. Through this process, we become partners in your hearing healthcare needs. Please callus today at 806-771-4505 to schedule your free hearing test and consultation.

Being in the insurance industry for over a decade, we have seen many people struggle with life-altering and crippling events.Unfortunately, there is also a struggle with the rising costs of healthcare and the increasing amount of premiums.

Live Well Health Strategy Advisors, Inc. was created to help. Live Well is a health and welfare benefit program that saves theemployer money and puts benefits in place for the employee without affecting their take-home pay. Live Well works with eachemployer to customize the benefits to their industry’s needs and also allows the employees to customize to their individualneeds. Our health coaches and telehealth products are just a few of the things that make living healthier lifestyles easier for ouremployees. Once a healthier lifestyle is in place, the overall amount of healthcare premiums will begin to decrease. The marketcontinues to forecast the rising costs of healthcare along with out-of-pocket expenses. Even with good health coverage, the coststill continues to rise. Live Well monitors the market, and we strive to increase our coverage levels to protect our clients. The LiveWell Gap plan is just another one of our great products that helps cover the out-of-pocket expenses from rising deductibles.
