TRANSCRIPT
October 2019
In a sense, Corey Beckwith could be called a second-generation business owner, having
started working at the age of 17 in the construction industry alongside his uncle, who
owned his own construction company. While exposed to the varied trades that comprise
the construction industry, he landed on one in which he decided to make a lifelong
career. Gaining the skillset, knowledge and love for concrete work inspired Beckwith to
eventually open his own Columbus, MS-based business, Beckwith Construction, LLC 13
years ago. Today, his company provides full-service concrete services that include at a
minimum, concrete paving, flatwork, reinforcing, and finishing. Beckwith Construction
is an MDOT-certified DBE, also certified through the Mississippi Development Authority.
Over the years, Beckwith Construction has built its capacity and experience to service
the needs of primes on MDOT projects by working on diverse non-MDOT and MDOT
concrete projects. The firm has provided services for companies representing varied
industries, such as accredited property management and development, state and local
government, and residential and commercial construction. Beckwith’s team had the
expertise to work on a project that helped maintain the architectural uniqueness of the
City of Aberdeen’s Historic District, while enabling the community to improve its
walkability. The company has also subbed with contractors like Burns Dirt and Custom
Home Builders. For both, Beckwith installed slabs and sidewalks. Beckwith has both the
team and time to bid as a prime or quote as a sub and ultimately work on concrete
projects, in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee or Louisiana.
Beckwith encourages potential clients to “look at my past performance history,
similarity of projects, delivery ability, and capacity to use specialty products, when
comparing my business to those you might use. I believe you will find my
competitiveness and dependability worth considering Beckwith Construction. My work
is a representation of what and who I am known as - loyal to my craft and an expert, at
the highest level, who delivers as promised”.

Cornerstone engineering, LLC
Located in Clinton, Mississippi, Cornerstone Engineering, LLC is owned and operated by Mauricka McKenzie, a civil
engineer with a bachelor’s degree from MSU and a master’s from LSU. Having worked with one of Metro Jackson’s top
firms, Neel-Shaffer, for more than a decade, McKenzie gained invaluable experience enabling him to bring quality
engineering services to a wide array of Southern and Mid-western companies. Through this relationship, he mastered the
nuances of various types and size infrastructure projects, whether ranging from $100,000 to multi-million dollars.
McKenzie is currently licensed to practice civil engineering in 9 states, including Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas,
Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Wisconsin. His firm offers civil, water resources (water, wastewater and storm
water), geotechnical and forensic engineering services, as well as solid waste management and construction material
testing. McKenzie works with a staff of professional engineers and technical personnel that assist from project conception
to completion.
With nearly 20 years of practical engineering experience, McKenzie has built Cornerstone’s capacity by networking and
building positive work relationships with various prime contractors, such as Environmental Management Services, Durrell
Design Group, and Compton Engineering. Although the firm has performed work as a subcontractor, about 80% of its work
is bid and completed as the prime contractor. One of the firm’s largest projects entailed designing and managing
approximately $10 million dollars of construction upgrades to OB Curtis and JH Fewell Water Treatment Plants. Some of
the upgrades consisted of soda ash Ph adjustment, chemical feed system, and soda ash silo rehab, along with the structural
repair of raw water basins and a host of other improvements. Currently, the firm is in the process of completing
wastewater plant upgrades in north Mississippi and a wastewater plant rehabilitation project for the City of Greenville ,
to name a few. The firm is open to partnering with larger primes or serving as a subcontractor on upcoming projects.
Growth is an integral part of the sustainability of any business, no matter the industry. Over the past year, Cornerstone
has seen the number of its awarded contracts, as well as the contract size, increase significantly. This growth has enabled
McKenzie to expand his team from 5 to 18 employees. Also, the firm was recently selected to be the prime design
consultant on a $1.2 million dollar water main replacement construction project in a major city in the state of Alabama.
He credits his business success to stepping out on faith and having the courage to do what doesn’t seem possible.
Moreover, he recognizes that he cannot sustain his business unless he operates with integrity, stays humble throughout
the process, and helps others along the way.
For your civil engineering needs, contact Mauricka McKenzie at 601-941-9599 or [email protected] .
