Dear Members and Friends of Santa Cruz Lutheran Church,

I want to thank all of the volunteers both from our Congregation andfrom the Neighborhood who helped us with our Bike Safety Rodeo onSunday, September 26. We had a lot of support from the DrexelHeights Fire Department, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the LivingStreets Alliance, and the Ajo Bike Shop, the Pima Street Bike Shop, and Roadrunner Bike Shop. Without their help we would not havebeen able to provide bike helmets, water bottles, safety lights, maps,or an interactive Bike Safety Course for the Children whoparticipated. I am sure that our experience with the event this yearwill help us to plan for even more effective programs to improve thequality of the lives of young people and their families in the years tocome. Thank you to everyone who helped with the planning andwith your time and enthusiasm.

We provided gift bags for 20 Children from the Community. I sawthat 12 Children had signed up for Bike Helmets from the FireDepartment and the mechanics from the Living Streets Alliance alsoprovided Helmets but did not keep a count of the number of peoplethey helped. It was a pleasant surprise that a News Reporter fromKOLD Channel 13 also showed up and did a News Piece that wasbroadcast on the Sunday Evening News. Here is the link to the Piecethat they did which is available Onlinehttps://www.kold.com/2021/09/27/tucson-church-promotes-bike-safety-after-hit-and-run-involvingPastor/?fbclid=IwAR3tW_Hidts6Q5TjiDmx4HDc9PTyiJzzj7KELS_72wdG1p9sSEC5udpjo4c

I am looking forward to observing the same

It’s nice to resume some ofthese traditions from the past that we share with the community. Our ministry in and with our neighbors is a mix of old and new. Ithelps us to grow while giving us a sense of continuity with the pastwhile looking into the future.

I also want to welcome the “Snowbirds” back: As the temperaturesstart to moderate, we begin to see more and more of our WinterVisitors who also provide vital support with their time and talents andthe insights that they bring from other parts of the Country. We havemoved our worship to 9:30 AM beginning on October 3 which reflectsthe majority response from the second survey that our ChurchCouncil conducted last month.

FOOD BANK: Thank you for all of the donated food items and monetary donations for our Food Pantry. We continue to serve clientsevery Wednesday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. We just received our annual letter from the Tucson Community Food Bank showing us how many pounds of food we receive a year from them and the valuation of the food. These numbers do not show the food and monetary donations from our members and friends.

Pounds received 268,457 valued at $400,000.88. INCREDIBLE!!

And I think the crew that unloads the truck each week have felt everypound that they carried in from the truck.
