Photo Courtesy of Naomi Richard Meme Styles Marilyn Johnson Pflugerville Chili Fest On October 15, 2016 the Annual Fall Chili Fest, was held in the heart of downtown Pflugerville. The festi- val sought to select the “best chili” dish throughout the city of Pflugerville. Not only did the festival show- case various styles of “chili” but, it also showcased a variety of small business owners operating throughout Central Texas. They used the Fest as a time to market their products. There were booths with jew- elry, food, African clothing, accessories, and various non-profit organizations were present. The Chili Fest was also a time to pro- mote services to women living in Travis County. Another busi- ness owner mentioned that she enjoyed the “Chili Fest” because of the numerous pur- chases made which en- abled her to market her business. Not only did the merchants enjoy the event, but it was also a very family friendly event. The majority of the attendees came with their children to enjoy the food and the music. For instance, John Sesion who at- tended the event men- tioned that, “My fam- ily and I were looking forward to coming to the event because ev- eryone could enjoy themselves.” More- over, the Annual Fall Chili Fest was success- ful due to the high number of participants and the high numbers of merchants present. (Austin, TEXAS) - Saturday, October 15, 2016, AFTV5 TV Network hosted their 3rd Annual US-Africa Cultural Expo and Business Match- making Conference. The conference entailed a three day engagement, leading with a meet and greet business network mixer on Thursday, Octo- ber 13 th . Friday, the 14 th , introduced two Panel Discussions, an Invest- ment and Branding work- shop, and a Social Enter- prise Shark Tank Work- shop. The first panel was on “The Doing Business in Africa (DBIA) Cam- paign”: Investigating in innovative solutions through the promotion of public / private part- nership to improve Afri- can competitiveness and trade with the United States of America. Speak- ers of these discussions included Larry Tabash, Travis Florey, Dr. Roger Tappa and Judy Francis. The second panel con- versed “Branding Africa: A new Narrative for Af- rica” with speakers Ashanta’ Miller, Tamika Moseley and Chair- woman of AFTV5 Meme Styles. Saturday, October 15th, The 2016 Cultural Expo Conference closed with an Awards Banquet, filled with live perfor- mances and fashion en- tertainment presented by DJ Truth, Master Drummer Abou Sylla, So- loist Sonia Moore and band, and U4U Designs. The banquet was held at Crown Plaza Austin hotel. AFTV5 Chairwoman Meme Styles welcomed the audience and Former VP of IBM, Marketing Development Marilyn Johnson took over as the MC for the evening. This year’s honorees included Owner and Publisher of the Villager Newspaper, Tommy Wyatt; Huston- Tillotson University Presi- dent, Colette Pierce Burnette; and CEO and Founder of I.M.P.A.C Out- reach, Rodney Duckett. AFTV5 Network is a nonprofit news outlet that focuses on capturing the experience of Afri- cans, African-Americans and their interactions with other national and global communities.
