WELCOME TO TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH The service is being live-streamed for participation by those at home.

Masks: Required.

Please use hand sanitizer as you enter and leave the church (much like

you do a hospital room). Social distancing: We are fortunate to have such a large sanctuary. Please

spread yourselves out in the space. Offering plates will not be passed, rather, they will be located in two

locations at each side of the sanctuary. Offerings may be left in the plates upon entering/exiting, and and/or when coming up for Communion .

Everything you need to participate fully in the service is found in the bulletin.

Throughout this bulletin:

C = Congregation P = Presiding minister A = Assisting Minister

A SPECIAL WELCOME IS EXTENDED TO OUR GUESTS: Hearing-assistant devices are available in the Narthex at the host desk. Please use the Welcome Card (in the pew racks) to record your

participation in worship today and to communicate with the staff. If you are worshiping at Trinity for the first time, or visiting, we invite you to

introduce yourself to the person at the information desk in the Narthex. We value having children in our worship services. There is a quiet

activities area at the rear of the worship space so children may remain in worship, or parents may, if necessary, take their children to the entrance area, where the service may be heard over speakers.

If you are interested in joining Trinity Lutheran Church, please check the “Want to join” box on a Welcome Card, or contact Pastor Blakney at church, 253-537-0201 x104 x103; or Interim Pastor Ron Kempe at church , 253-537-0201 or email: [email protected] to contact either pastor.

Ways to donate to Trinity’s Ministries and Missions: Cash or check — loose offering in offering plate or use a pew envelop to have it appear on your statement of giving; “Simply Giving” (Electronic Funds Transfer) — forms are in the Narthex or arrange for “bill pay” through your bank. You may also give electronically through Trinity’s website www.trinitylutheranparkland.org

WORD

FIRST READING Jeremiah 31:7-9

This passage speaks not only of the southern kingdom, Judah, and its homecoming from exile in Babylon, but also of the northern kingdom (“Israel” or “Ephraim”) and its restoration. The northern tribes of Israel had been lost in exile to Assyria more than a century before Jeremiah prophesied.

A: A reading from Jeremiah . 7Thus says the Lord:

Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, “Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel.” 8See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here. 9With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

A: The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

PSALM Psalm 126 Cantor 1 leads the refrains; the congregation responds, singing with Cantor 2. Refrain

1

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, then were we like those who dream. 2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy. Refrain Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” 3The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad indeed. 4Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses of the Negeb. Refrain 5Those who sowed with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed, will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves. Refrain

9

SECOND READING Hebrews 7:23-28

Human priests of old offered sacrifice for their own sins and served only until their death. In contrast, Jesus is God’s Son, the holy, sinless, resurrected high priest. Death did not terminate his priestly service, but through his death he has interceded for our sins.

A: A reading from Hebrews.

23The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; 24but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25Consequently he is able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. 26For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself. 28For the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

A: The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

GOSPEL: Mark 10:46-52

Bartimaeus comes to Jesus with faith, asking that he might see again. Recognizing Jesus’ identity, Bartimaeus is the first person to call him “Son of David” in the Gospel of Mark.

P: The holy gospel according to Mark, the tenth chapter.

C: Glory to you, O Lord.

46As [Jesus] and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. 47When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” 50So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Je-sus. 51Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” 52Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.

P: The gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. Please be seated.

HYMN OF THE DAY Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound Hymn 779

12

APOSTLE’S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Each portion of the prayers ends with these or similar words:

A: Lord, in your mercy, or …let us pray. or Hear us, O God. C: Hear our prayer. Have mercy, O God. Your mercy is great. Please remain seated during the offertory.

OFFERTORY O Christ, Surround Me Richard Bruxvoort Colligan (b. 1967) SHARING OF THE PEACE P: The peace of the Lord be with you all. C: And also with you.

We encourage “touch free” -- eye contact and a smile, a head nod, or a hand placed on your heart with the words, “Peace be with you.”

13

MEAL

Please stand as you are able. GREAT THANKSGIVING

P: It is indeed right, our duty and delight . . . we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

14

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

P: You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God. You are most holy, and great is the majesty of your glory. You so loved the world that you gave your only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. We give you thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will and to accomplish all things for our salvation.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

15

For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

C: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

P: Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death, his glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again, we give thanks to you, O Lord God Almighty, not as we ought but as we are able; we ask you mercifully to accept our praise and thanksgiving and with your Word and Holy Spirit to bless us, your servants, and these your own gifts of bread and wine, so that we and all who share in the body and blood of Christ may be filled with heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the forgiveness of sin, may be formed to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance with all your saints. To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever.

C: Amen THE LORD’S PRAYER P: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

16

COMMUNION P: Taste and see that the Lord is good. LAMB OF GOD

BLESSING AND PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you, and keep you in his

grace. Let us pray. Jesus, Bread of life, we have received from your table more than we could ever ask. As you have nourished us in this meal, now strengthen us to love the world with your own life. In your name we pray.

C: Amen.

17

NOW, LORD YOU LET YOUR SERVANT GO IN PEACE

ANNOUNCEMENTS BLESSING / BENEDICTION P: The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy.

The Lord look upon you with favor and ☩ give you peace. C: Amen.
