VERDUGO HILLS CHORUS RECEIVES RAVE

REVIEWS!

I have a feeling everyone’s ears were buzzing

with all of the accolades received from our

audience this past Sunday! In fact, mine are still

buzzing!

This was a new experience, performing AND

being part of the audience. Truly more of a

“theater in the round.” From beginning to end

everyone was fully engaged. We worked hard on

our visual of Man in the Mirror and All About That

Bass under Barb Erfurt’s tutelage. Our songs

were done well. Characters in the program were

believable and all of the quartets strutted their

stuff in good form.

Our boutique was successful and provided lots

of items for our “guests” to partake of. Well done!

One word that comes to mind following a truly

successful weekend is exhilaration. Absolutely a

feeling of excitement, elation, exultation,

exaltation, joy, happiness, delight, joyousness,

jubilation, rapture, ecstasy, bliss ... Can you tell

how I felt?

Many of our VHC members sang and worked

the day before our show at the Arcadia Halloween

Festival. It was a long, hot day! In spite of how

tired many of us were, we sang with joy and

enthusiasm making for a very fulfilling

performance on our show!

VHC is truly blessed and I am honored to be a

part of this amazing family!

[Monday, Oct 29]Hello, Verdugans! This week I understand that many of you will be otherwise occupied with Halloween and will not be at rehearsal. For those of us planning to attend, let’s have some fun! Costumes are great if you feel so inclined. If not that’s okay, too. We'll do some Vocal Skill Building and work on holiday music. We have performances on Dec 3 and 8, so let’s get this stuff going! Please bring sheet music for the following: Angels We Have Heard on High Carol Medley Carol of the Bells Caroling, Caroling Christmas Chopsticks Coventry Carol Hanukkah song (short version) Jingle Bell Rock Santa Claus is Coming to Town We Need a Little Christmas Winter Swing Medley Winter Wonderland We probably won’t get to all of them, but let’s have the sheet music just in case. We will spend a good portion of the evening sitting in chairs to work this music and we will likely finish rehearsal a bit early, probably between 9:00-9:30. I’m looking forward to a good start on this holiday music! Until then, take care of your wonderful selves! Love,

Tammy

=========================================== P.S. Please read Nancy Branam’s article on Page 4 regarding costume try-ons for our new tunic top.

Dear VHC…

My heartfelt thanks to all of you for the lovely

surprise celebration last week of my 60th

wonderful cards meant so very much.

My life has been immeasurably enriched thanks

to these many years as a Sweet Adeline. Most of

all, I treasure the friendships here and around the

The Harmony Harvest Show was a success! All our hard work learning songs and choreography paid off.

The hall exploded with vibrant autumnal flair colors, bringing the season to life. Our Indian Summer clothing palette enhanced the fall theme and complemented the

decorations.

Lucky winners walked away with great silent auction items and gift baskets. Bling was bought in droves and sweets consumed with glee and the Afterglow closed the day on an up note of laughter, conversations and cheer.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Harvest Festival Show—singing, donating items contributing to the gift baskets, baking, helping out when help was needed—and for just being YOU. Thank you to everyone who stayed to clean up. Heaping barrels of thanks to:

STAR CHORUS (Singing Together at Regional)

AT FALL FESTIVAL Hello Region 11 STARs!

Congrats to Troubadour and Carpe Diem for representing Region 11 in St. Louis and all our duals in competing choruses! Heck of a contest year!!

In a very short time we will be meeting again in lovely Bakersfield for Fall Festival. We have a couple of STAR sessions along with an appearance on the Saturday night show, so start getting pumped!!

The Friday session will be STAR Song review and is open to everyone. We'll be singing through ALL of the STAR Songs (available through the regional website under Resources/STAR Program with the password Starsinger) with the last half hour being focused on the songs to be performed on Saturday.

The Saturday session will be focused on performance prep for the show. The songs for the show are Harmony Leads the Way and Why We Sing (again, tracks and spots available to all R11 members through the website under Resources/STAR Program with the password Starsinger). This session is mandatory for those who want to perform on the Saturday night show as we will be figuring out standing positions and polishing up those two songs!!

Costume is any combination of the Region colors (see the region 11 logo) and can be as fancy or casual as you feel comfortable with for the dinner/show. If you don't have anything green or blue, maybe wear white (even though it's after Labor Day) and borrow some accessories in green or blue from your home chorus riser mates! If you do plan on being on the show brush up on Happy Together as well...

Can't wait to see you all in Bako!!!

Logan P.-M.

COSTUMES - NEW ONES TO TRY-ON Yes, if you haven't heard yet, the chorus will purchase new tunic tops to be worn at various future events that we attend as a chorus (perhaps even perform wearing it…) It will be an aqua color with decorative trim on it. You can see Pat Kahmann’s tunic TONIGHT. In order to accomplish this order, everyone is required to try-on a sample size. You will need to try it on without another top underneath, so please come prepared. (No, you don’t need to wear your all-in-one...I’m sure some of you are terribly disappointed to hear that…) Since rehearsal will be shorter than usual TONIGHT, it seems like a really good opportunity to get as many of you as possible to try on a sample size. The order needs to be completed by November 14. I will have the sample sizes with me each week, so please be sure to get your try-on done; (come to the tenor room). Wednesday, Oct 31 (TONIGHT) 6:00-7:00 pm before rehearsal starts Also when rehearsal is over Wednesday, Nov 7 6:00-7:00 pm before rehearsal starts Also when rehearsal is over Wednesday, Nov 14 6:00-7:00 pm before rehearsal starts (Last chance) Also when rehearsal is over

ARCADIA HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL The Arcadia Halloween Festival was long, exhausting and I think, worthwhile. The entire PR team extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped run the booth. • First off, Brenda and Mark Carlson came to the rescue when we discovered that we had three parking

spaces to use; I had only planned for a small space. Brenda asked Mark to drive home and bring their pop-up tent and another table. Brenda had made a beautiful new huge signboard, with a gorgeous photo of Tammy as well as pictures of the quartets and chorus; she brought the business and wallet size cards, table decorations and the VHC banner and tablecloth. In addition, she worked the booth the whole day. Mark came back before 5:00 to help put everything away. Julie and Ralph Hoffman were all hands-on when we were tearing down.

• Shauna Scanlon provided a bean bag toss game which drew in the children as well as a cauldron for the candy. Our booth was across the street from the balloon magician and face painting people, so there were lots of children there.

• We thank Chris Hinkley, Jackie Wheatley and Patti Loitz for directing and Ellen Totleben for adjusting the microphones.

• Hot Topic and Precious Gems sang, and sang, and sang in front of the booth after singing in the show, to the enjoyment of all the people waiting in line.

• Thanks need to go to all our members who were there all day or almost all day, who ran the game, handed out prizes and candy, and talked up the chorus. They include Melinda and Pat Dean who covered the booth while we were singing; the indefatigable Pat Vincent, Sheila Stinnett, Mary Gatter, Lynn Sloan, Julie Hoffman, Brenda Carlson, Shauna Scanlon and Melinda Dean for keeping the game running. Ellen Totleben brought flyers for Holiday and Valentine Cards and membership questionnaires, Linda Ragsdale was there the entire day, giving love and moral support to all of us. Steve Peacock helped with set up and took Valentine flyers to just about every booth.

• Hugs and thanks also go to everyone who sang, and everyone who brought candy. It wouldn't have happened without your participation.

• After most of us had wilted, two middle school volunteers asked to help as part of their service project. Annie and Sara were great. They showed up when we really needed help. If we do this again next year we need to ask in advance for volunteers.

Thank you to everyone. It was definitely a village effort. I was one worn-out puppy. We have the name and contact information of one possible member, and had interest from several others. And we need to keep track of orders to see if all our passing out of flyers pays off. Love,

Sue Peacock on behalf of the PR/Marketing Committee Jeannie Vercillo, Chair Brenda Carlson, Lynn Sloan, Sue Peacock, Shauna Scanlon, and Kim Scott
