Page 2: OCTOBER HOT PINK SYMPOSIUM & LUNCHEON · so bright. Last year marked a big year for the Foundation. We reached a milestone by dedicating a record $58.6 million to breast cancer research,

In my 14 years as President of BCRF, the future has never looked so bright. Last year marked a big year for the Foundation. We reached a milestone by dedicating a record $58.6 million to breast cancer research, including $11.6 million from the Evelyn H. Lauder Founder’s Fund focused on metastasis. Today, we stand as one of the largest private funders of breast cancer research and we owe that all to you.

Credit goes to you, our supporters, who not only share our commitment to ending breast cancer but also galvanize us to use our funds efficiently, effectively and immediately. Breast cancer affects millions of women and men around the world every day, every minute. There’s no time to wait. There’s no point in saving for a rainy day. The rainy day is now—with every diagnosis and every death from this disease.

As your donations come in, we make sure those funds are quickly delivered to our physicians and scientists working around the clock on the most innovative research. It’s that sense of urgency that has enabled our grantees to make unprecedented progress against breast and other cancers. BCRF scientists are analyzing thousands of cases of metastases at clinics and laboratories around the world to circumvent and stop breast cancer from spreading. They are collaborating to reduce the disparities across the spectrum of cancer care to improve outcomes in vulnerable populations including Latin Americans and African Americans. They are also tackling the rare and under-researched area of male breast cancer.

These are just a few of the projects underway as we start 2015, but what promise this year already holds. I can hardly wait to see what our scientists will uncover and where their discoveries will lead us. Research has already transformed the lives of countless women and men who are benefiting from better care. If we maintain this pace and continue to persevere, research will forever change the course of this disease.

Together, we will be the end of cancer.

Sincerely,

Myra J. Biblowit, President & CEO

Disparities WorkshopOn October 9–10, BCRF sponsored a two-day meeting to enhance efforts to reduce breast cancer disparities. The disparities workshop was spearheaded by Scientific Advisory Board member Dr. Patricia Ganz with the help of a coordinating committee that included Drs. Peter Greenwald, Dawn Hershman, Arti Hurria and Electra Paskett.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify central areas in disparities research where innovative strategies can be employed to close the gaps in breast cancer outcomes. The meeting convened experts in disparities and health outcomes research, epidemiology, psychosocial and behavioral sciences, research oncologists and representatives from the patient community.

Closing the gaps in access to care and in our understanding of where and how the underlying biology may vary across different groups of patients is critical to our overall mission.- Chairman of BCRF’s Scientific Advisory Board Dr. Clifford Hudis.

FDA WorkshopOn October 21, BCRF joined the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Clinical Oncology in sponsoring a one-day workshop hosted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Its aim: to accelerate the development of new drugs for treatment of metastatic breast cancer. Scientific collaboration has long been a tenet of BCRF, and this is the opportune time to design new approaches due to breakthroughs in science, drug development and information technology, along with a need to make clinical research more efficient. Held in Bethesda, MD, the workshop gathered breast cancer and clinical trial experts, FDA leaders,

pharmaceutical representatives and patient advocates from around the world. The meeting’s objective was to discuss the intricacies of developing an international, genomically driven clinical trial to test multiple agents in patients with metastatic breast cancer.

BCRF grantee Dr. José Baselga Co-chaired the workshop with Dr. Patricia Cortazar, the FDA’s Medical Team Leader in Oncology. Dr. Clifford Hudis, Chairman of BCRF’s Scientific Advisory Board, moderated the meeting, which also included presentations by BCRF Scientific Director Dr. Larry Norton and grantees Drs. Martine Piccart and Charles Perou. A number of additional BCRF grantees participated as expert panelists.

“This is a time of rapidly changing opportunities in the management of all cancers, largely due to dramatic advances in the molecular understanding of cancer biology,” Dr. Norton said. “Our clinical trial mechanisms need to evolve as rapidly as our basic science, and meetings such as this one that bring many of the key players to the table are critical for advances in this regard.”

BCRF at San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium 2014Genomics & MetastasisDr. Matthew Ellis opened the 2014 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) with a talk highlighting how genome-driven studies, which use information about mutated genes, may provide answers to questions in drug resistance and could lead to the development of better prevention and treatment strategies. Dr. Suzanne Fuqua highlighted the importance of utilizing advanced DNA sequencing techniques and a specialized model called PDX in determining why some tumors spread and others do not and identifying new strategies to treat and prevent metastasis, and she acknowledged the foresight of BCRF in making this critical area a priority.

Emerging Anti-Cancer Therapies & ImmunotherapyTumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are white blood cells dispersed among tumor cells that may play an important role in how well tumors respond to some therapies. At SABCS, Dr. Edith Perez presented data showing that in HER2+ patients the number of TILs correlated with improved response to chemotherapy, but not to the anti-HER2 drug Herceptin™. These studies, while preliminary, are laying the groundwork for the development of immune biomarkers that may help predict or inform an individual’s response to treatment, as well as possible strategies to boost anti-tumor immunity and the body’s natural ability to fight cancer. Discovering More About Male Breast Cancer While we have learned a great deal about breast cancer in women, we still know very little about breast cancer in men. That’s why BCRF is supporting The Male Breast Cancer Study, the largest international effort to characterize male breast cancer, coordinated by Dr. Fatima Cardoso of the Breast International Group under the auspices of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer and in collaboration with the NABCG and Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium. At SABCS, Dr. Cardoso presented initial results from the study, demonstrating the similarities and differences between male and female breast cancer. The study investigators have initiated a prospective study in the U.S. with TBCRC investigators and BCRF grantees Drs. Sharon Giordano and Peggy Porter.

2014–2015 GRANTEES

Page 5: OCTOBER HOT PINK SYMPOSIUM & LUNCHEON · so bright. Last year marked a big year for the Foundation. We reached a milestone by dedicating a record $58.6 million to breast cancer research,

To reinforce their long-standing commitment to BCRF, our partners at ANN INC. kicked-off their annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with incredible in-store and online promotions. At the height of the campaign, Ann Taylor and Glamour Magazine teamed up to host “Conversation for a Cure” — a discussion on breast health. This inspiring and insightful panel, hosted by Glamour’s Genevieve Roth included BCRF’s President Myra Biblowit, who spoke about the importance of funding research, BCRF grantee Dr. Nancy Lin, who touched upon her research and Emmy-nominated TV host Samantha Harris, who gave a personal account on her journey with breast cancer.

To celebrate 10 years of Taking Flight for the Fight, our partners at Delta invited special guest “Good Morning America” anchor, BCRF ambassador and breast cancer survivor Amy Robach to join nearly 150 Delta employees on “Breast Cancer One”—a Delta Boeing 767 with BCRF founder Evelyn H. Lauder’s signature emblazoned on its side. This tradition, which Delta launched as part of its partnership with BCRF, honors employees affected by breast cancer and kicked off Delta’s month-long efforts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We are delighted to welcome the Dee Ocleppo and Tommy Hilfiger brands into the BCRF Family! Both Tommy and Dee Hilfiger have been long-time supporters of BCRF. As part of the Dee Ocleppo Fall/Winter 2014 collection, Dee designed a beautifully crafted BCRF pink edition of the Hong Kong iphone Cross Body Bag. To celebrate the new collection, Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a special cocktail reception, with sales from the event benefitting BCRF.

During the month of October, Tommy Hilfiger inspired customers to make a donation to BCRF upon checkout. Over the course of just one month, Tommy Hilfiger generated over $115,000 in customer donations! We could not have asked for a better beginning to our partnership.

For 15 years, Hard Rock’s Pinktober campaign has mobilized the global rock and roll community and its fans in the battle against breast cancer. In 2014, Electropop star LIGHTS, as well as Peter Criss, Christina Grimmie, Bret Michaels and more, showed support and helped raise funds for BCRF.The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness

(BCA) Campaign launched their Fall 2014 initiative with an uplifting call-to-action, “Hear our stories. Share yours.,” designed to create a global community of strength and support through digital storytelling. Expanding upon the theme, “Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer. We’re Stronger Together.,” the 2014 BCA Campaign came to life through the authentic, inspirational stories of brave women and men who have faced breast cancer, and the loved ones who supported them throughout the experience. Since 1994, The BCA Campaign has donated nearly $46 million to BCRF, funding 185 medical research grants around the world through the sale of Pink Ribbon products and employee fundraising activities.

Since 2012, The Estée Lauder Companies’ has partnered with Hudson’s Bay to raise awareness for The Estée Lauder Companies’ (BCA) Campaign and to raise funds for BCRF. Elizabeth Hurley, Global Ambassador of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign joined together with The Estée Lauder Companies’ employees from the Greater Toronto Area at the Hudson’s Bay Queen Street Store for an in-store employee rally. That same evening, Hudson’s Bay Queen Street store hosted an in-store event with 200 of its top customers to meet Elizabeth Hurley. Joining the celebration were Hudson’s Bay executives along with Myra Biblowit.

For the 10th year, Bloomingdale’s continued its commitment to support breast cancer research during the month of October by inviting their loyal shoppers to join in the fight with exclusive merchandise and exciting events that helped to raise funds for awareness and research in stores nationwide and on Bloomingdales.com. To kick-off breast cancer awareness month, Bloomingdale’s 59th Street partnered with The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and BCRF for an event hosted by Tony Spring, Chairman & CEO of Bloomingdale’s, alongside Elizabeth Hurley, Global Ambassador for The BCA Campaign, in support of BCRF, The Carey Foundation and the Marisa Acocella Marchetto Foundation. Indie folk musicians Paul McDonald & Nikki Reed joined in the celebration, reuniting for a very special performance, featuring hits from their debut album “I’m Not Falling.”

ULTA Beauty invited guests to participate in their annual “Donate With A Kiss” campaign, supporting breast cancer research. Initiatives included both online and in-store components, such as the highly anticipated THE SALON Cut-A-Thon. To further their commitment, ULTA teamed up with “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to highlight BCRF throughout the month, culminating with CEO Mary Dillon presenting a check to BCRF for $1.5 million on the show! We were so excited to share in this moment with ULTA Beauty.

Welcome to the Family!

BCRF raised a record-breaking $1.5 million at its third annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink on August 16. Fitness expert Tracy Anderson joined Co-Hosts Maria & Larry Baum and Lisa & Richard Perry for the sold out summer fundraiser, which included a morning paddle race at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor and a sunset party at the Perry residence in North Haven.

The paddle board race kicked off bright and early with over 150 participants paddling through the three mile recreational and six mile elite courses.

A surprise performance by the WaterWorks, a synchronized swimming team sporting Lisa Perry swimsuits, kicked-off the evening followed by a special set from four-time Grammy nominee Taylor Dayne. The highlight of the evening was the auction of one-of-a-kind Laird Hamilton standup paddle boards designed and signed by Gwyneth Paltrow, Tory Burch, Aerin Lauder, Martha Stewart, Nicole Miller, Lisa Perry and Leviev among others. The party continued into the night at the Perry residence with its sweeping bay views and beautiful décor from Taylor Creative and Hilary Pereira Design.

Attendees included Leonard A. Lauder, William P. Lauder, Mary-Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy, Ashley Olsen, Martha Stewart, Donna Karan, Gabby Karan DeFelice, Jonathan Adler & Simon Doonan, Hilary Rhoda & Sean Avery, Molly Sims & Scott Stuber, Thom Filicia, Huma Abedin, Bethenny Frankel, Rula Jebreal Altschul & Arthur Altschul, Jr., and Lyor Cohen.

A big thank you to our Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink sponsors Goldman Sachs Gives, Leviev, Lisa Perry, Stacy Bash-Polley, Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn & Gary Cohn, Maggie & Ashok Varadhan, Bay Street Advisors, Tracy Anderson, Dom Pérignon, the Kerkorian Family, Kinga Lampert, William P. Lauder, Jackie & Bippy Siegal, Christina & Hal Steinbrenner, Town & Country, and Watermill Institutional Trading, LLC.

On October 24, BCRF held its fourth annual Hot Pink Luncheon & Symposium in Boston — a BCRF million-dollar city. Upwards of 225 supporters attended the event, which raised $250,000 to fund grantees at New England’s world-renowned medical institutions.

Honorary chair Nancy Kelleher and Co-chairs Stephanie Andrews, Andrea Brooks, Katherine Chapman, Karen Hale, Deb Hoffman and Simone Winston organized the event which began with a touching tribute to Darby Stott, a dedicated BCRF supporter who lost her battle against metastatic breast cancer in September. As a staunch believer in the power of research, BCRF named one of its 2014 grants the Darby Stott award in her memory. The recipient, Dr. Alan D’Andrea, currently studies treatments for triple negative breast cancer.

Kelley Tuthill, WCVB Channel 5 News Anchor, served as event emcee, and Co-chair, Andrea Brooks, introduced Dr. Clifford Hudis. Dr. Hudis, Chairman of BCRF’s Scientific Advisory Board, extended his greatest thanks to the attendees – whose support has grown ever more valuable as federal funding of groundbreaking research has fallen significantly in recent years. After attendees enjoyed lunch, Dr. Hudis opened the symposium — “Progress and Prevention” — alongside Drs. Nancy Lin and Andrea Richardson. The discussion centered around BCRF’s ongoing efforts on metastasis through the international Evelyn H. Lauder Founder’s Fund.

Attendees included Nancy and Rick Kelleher, Elisha Daniels, Donna Stearns, Linda Waintrup, Karen Johnson, Elizabeth Healey, Corinne Grousbeck, Elena Matlack, Courtney Forrester, Ashley Bernon, Sinesia Karol and Susan Smith.

We would like to thank the event underwriters, Saks Fifth Avenue and Leonard A. Lauder, as well as the following event benefactors who helped lead BCRF in making this event such a success: Karen & Rob Hale and Nancy & Rick Kelleher.

On November 12, nearly 380 Long Islanders gathered at Crest Hollow Country Club for Pink Promises: An Evening Affair. The event, chaired by Stephanie and Ian Ginsberg, marked the Long Island community’s fifth year of support for BCRF and was a major success, raising a total of $645,000. Over cocktails, guests bid on more than 90 silent auction items, while over dinner, special guest Cat Greenleaf, host of NBC’s “Talk Stoop,” shared her personal journey with her best friend’s breast cancer diagnosis.

Pink Promises and the Long Island Community have cumulatively raised over $3 million since 2009, funding an incredible — and impactful — 10 research projects.

Special thanks to underwriters C.O. Bigelow and Stephanie and Ian Ginsberg, BNY Mellon, The Buller Family Foundation and Marjam Supply Company, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., The Lauder Foundation, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Play for P.I.N.K. (PFP) presented a donation of $4.5 million to BCRF, bringing their cumulative giving since 1996 to $38.5 million. Play for P.I.N.K., one of BCRF’s largest donors, is currently supporting 17 research projects led by 25 world-class scientists investigating the many aspects of breast cancer including tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment and survivorship.

“Play for P.I.N.K. is a model of volunteerism and the mobilization of citizens who want to make a direct impact in advancing breast cancer research,” stated Myra Biblowit, President of BCRF. “This extraordinary donation will translate into breakthroughs in the lab and clinic that will have a meaningful impact on breast cancer patients today as well as tomorrow.”

What makes PFP unique is that 100% of all proceeds go directly to BCRF thanks to the sustained generosity of Bloomberg, which underwrites all overhead costs. Play for P.I.N.K. identified BCRF as its sole beneficiary because of BCRF’s mission to advance the world’s most promising research and its fiscal efficiency and accountability.

On Thursday, October 2, The Pink Agenda (TPA) welcomed nearly 700 guests to its annual gala held at the Frank Gehry-designed IAC building in New York City. What began as a small gathering seven years ago has now become a highly anticipated evening of fun and philanthropy with New York’s young movers and shakers. This year, a record $250,000 was raised for BCRF at the unforgettable bash. The gala opened with a cocktail hour and music by DJ Hannah Bronfman. Guests had the opportunity to bid on numerous silent auction items including a St. Maartin vacation, tickets to “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and a VIP behind-the scenes tour of NBC’s “TODAY” show.

E! News Correspondent and TPA partner, Giuliana Rancic, spoke of her own personal battle with breast cancer and how it motivated her to create her initiative, FAB-U-WISH, which partnered with The Pink Agenda this past August. Rancic then teamed up with NBC Host Willie Geist in a rousing live auction which raised $70,000 on the spot.

The Lisa Mae Lee Award was presented to Tom Keegan for his courage, optimism and outstanding leadership in the fight against breast cancer. His wife, a breast cancer survivor and inspiration to many, watched on as Keegan was honored.

A very special thanks to gala Co-chairs Samantha Tritsch, Meghan Rooney and Danielle Haskin, and sponsors Cindy and Rob Citrone, Hanky Panky, William P. Lauder and Lori Tritsch, the Keegan Family, ANN INC., Cushman & Wakefield, Signal Hill, GCM Grosvenor, Morgan Stanley, and the Rooney Family.

Each year Holiday House — founded by Iris Dankner, interior designer, BCRF Advisory Board member and breast cancer survivor — celebrates the best in interior design and holiday entertaining while supporting breast cancer research. Held at the Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side from November 20 to December 21, Holiday House 2014 welcomed 23 top designers and their teams to curate the interiors of the ornate “showhome” for the holiday season.

Holiday House not only showcases the cutting edge in creative design, but also raises money and awareness for breast cancer research, with 100% of proceeds from ticket sales going directly to BCRF. Holiday House most recently donated over $150,000 to our organization, bringing their cumulative donation to over $800,000 since 2012.

The AutoNation Cure Bowl, a new post-season NCAA football game pitting the Atlantic and Sun Belt college football conferences, has named BCRF its sole beneficiary. On December 19, 2015, the two conferences will face-off in Orlando, FL to support breast cancer research.

The AutoNation Cure Bowl was inspired by the legacy of founding board member John Rhodes’ late sister Laura Rhodes Goldstein, who passed away from stage IV breast cancer in 2011.

BCRF is honored to join AutoNation Cure Bowl this December!

SUPPORTING RESEARCH YEAR-ROUND

Page 8: OCTOBER HOT PINK SYMPOSIUM & LUNCHEON · so bright. Last year marked a big year for the Foundation. We reached a milestone by dedicating a record $58.6 million to breast cancer research,

BCRF kicked off its #BeTheEnd campaign in October with the call to action that research will bring an end to cancer and everyone has the power to play a role in eradicating the disease.

Joining BCRF in its pursuit to turn awareness into action is “Good Morning America” anchor and breast cancer survivor Amy Robach. In October 2013, Robach received her first mammogram on-air only to discover she had breast cancer. She has partnered with BCRF as an ambassador promoting breast health and the importance of research to help inform and activate the public.

BCRF and Healthy Hispanic Living (HHL), an online source that aims to improve the health outcomes of the Latino community, have initiated a content partnership. Healthy Hispanic Living, the first preventive care online educational platform targeted to U.S. Hispanics, kicked off a 90-day breast cancer campaign that aims to advance Hispanic women’s understanding of the disease and their risk while also inspiring them and their families to lead healthier lives.

Healthy Hispanic Living was introduced to BCRF through grantee, Dr. Jeffrey Weitzel of City of Hope in Duarte, CA. Dr. Weitzel has been an ongoing contributor to HHL and has discussed his research on the disparities in Latina communities, including barriers to access to genetic testing and counseling.

To contribute to HHL’s 90-day campaign, BCRF has provided a series of interviews featuring Drs. Dawn Hershman, Edith Perez and Walter Willett, as well as Jeffrey Weitzel, on topics including breast cancer screening and prevention, obesity, disparities and heredity.

“Our goal is to leverage the strengths of our respective platforms to accelerate breast cancer awareness and the need for self-advocacy

among Latinas, and to encourage new conversations we can all learn from and that will inspire the Hispanic community as a whole to take action,” said Glenn Llopis, CEO and Founder, Center for Hispanic Leadership.

As part of its efforts to reduce disparities in breast cancer, BCRF supports research to better understand the differences in genetic and biological risk factors across populations, improve access to genetic testing in high-risk minority groups, develop innovative means to eradicate barriers to preventive screening, and address health inequities across the cancer care continuum to improve outcomes in vulnerable populations.

BCRF and “Nature,” the internationally renowned scientific journal, have initiated a partnership and launched “npj Breast Cancer,” an open-access research journal aimed to deepen our understanding of how to prevent, treat and cure the world’s second most common cancer.

An online forum, “npj Breast Cancer,” will publish high-quality research to help clinicians, scientists and patients stay up-to-date on all aspects of breast cancer, ranging from imaging and immunotherapy to metastasis and survivorship issues.

BCRF Scientific Director Dr. Larry Norton and Scientific Advisory Board Chairman Dr. Clifford Hudis are the journal’s Editors-in-Chief, and many BCRF grantees sit on the editorial board, collectively representing many different fields of science and medicine.

“Our collaboration with the Nature Publishing Group will provide BCRF an exceptional opportunity to serve the scientific community and the general public in several ways,” said Dr. Norton, who is also Medical Director of the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. “With ‘npj Breast Cancer,’ we plan not only to report important new findings in breast cancer research but also to capture the creativity, controversy and deep thought intrinsic to the process.”

Join us at the Waldorf Astoria on April 30 for BCRF’s Hot Pink Party honoring Leonard A. Lauder, a true champion in the effort to eradicate breast cancer. Emceed by Elizabeth Hurley, the evening will feature a special performance by 18-time Grammy award winner Tony Bennett. A dear friend of BCRF, Sir Elton John, will present Mr. Lauder with The Roslyn and Leslie Goldstein Sung Hero Award for his support to friends and families touched by breast cancer — and his unwavering commitment to finding a cure.
