We also create a space for anyone to come forward to light a candle in memory of a loved one who has passed. World Communion Sunday offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, we remember that they are part of the whole body of believers. Whether shared in a grand cathedral, a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or in a storefront, Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith. We hope you will join us!

World Communion Sunday offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy

Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, we remember that they are part of the whole body of believers. Prayer Through the Halls

Flood Remediation Update!

On the fifth Sunday of September 29, the congregation moved out of the sanctuary and into the halls and sacred spaces of Seventh Street Christian Church. It was a unique service that began and ended in the Sanctuary but moved people throughout the building during the message time. The purpose: to give thanks, dedicate and bless the ministries that happen throughout our building. Seventh Street members contributed litanies to be shared for six spaces including: the Children’s space in the Chapel, Pollinator Garden, History Display, GreenSpring practice areas, Food Pantry and Hanover Hall.

This service also created an opportunity for people to learn about the different ministries, partners at Seventh Street, as well as a little Disciples of Christ and Seventh Street history. We give thanks to everyone who contributed and helped cultivate this special service!

We are thrilled that the Flood Remediation is complete for Hanover Hall! We had a wonderful celebration on September 22! Thank you to everyone who helped with a committee and contributed to the cause! We are thrilled to share that 100% of pledges have been received! Thank you!! We welcome everyone to come to see Hanover Hall if they haven’t!

Next Steps: Due to a tight schedule, refinishing the West Basement floor got pushed back. That is now scheduled for the week of October 15. Also scheduled is the landscaping and grading that will be happening in the next three weeks! Stay tuned as more positive changes come.

Estimate of Giving for 2020

A couple weeks ago I trained as an Advance Care Planning Ambassador through Honor Choices Virginia. ACP is an ongoing process in which you reflect on your goals, values, and beliefs, to discern how they should inform current and future medical care, and ultimately, use this information to accurately document your future. In my training I learned about the importance of documenting what I want should something happen to me and I am unable to speak for myself. The session also helped me to know how to navigate these hard conversations with my family. I realized this is important work!

Seventh Street Christian Church is offering a lunch following worship on Sunday, October 13 to learn more about Advance Care Planning. The program, which is in partnership with Honoring Choices Virginia, is for anyone over 18 and will navigate the hard conversations we have with ourselves and loved ones about Advance Care Planning. This service is FREE through Honoring Choices Virginia.

Seventh Street is a part of a pilot program with Honoring Choices Virginia, called Because I Love You, in which we will review a new guide for ACP. This is an opportunity to learn but also share feedback before the final document is printed. If you are over 18 - this is for you. If you have parents who are still alive (even if living in another state) - this is for you.

I hope you will join us for this important conversation.

Please RSVP HERE to sign up for the lunch.

Blessings,Rev. Hollie

Mary Rose Ragsdale is leading the cavalry to organize a new picture directory for Seventh Street Chrisitan Church. (Thank you, Dr. Mary Rose Ragsdale!) Photography sessions will be happening on Tuesday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 4 between 2:00 pm - 8:00 PM. You are encouraged to have fun and express your true personality by bringing meaningful items to your session (pet, musical instrument, sports equipment, spouse!)

Sign ups will begin the first Sunday in November. Stay tuned for more information.

While our Stewardship Celebration lunch has already happened, it is NOT too late to share your estimate of giving for 2020!

Seventh Street Christian Church has ministered faithfully for nearly 190 years – not because members have given year after year out of obligation, guilt or fear. Such motivations can’t sustain an institution for nearly two centuries. Seventh Street Christian Church is still here because it has chosen to be flexible, always exercising its prophetic imagination to faithfully navigate the future. This is not an easy task. As the American religious landscape is changing and while many congregations are experiencing decline, we are growing. Seventh Street is a community that proclaims the Good News! It continues to be:

•A safe space that allows us to get centered for our week, hear the Good News and embody Christ’s teaching as we depart. •A microcosm of the world, where we connect with people we otherwise wouldn’t, and we can learn from one another and hold each other accountable in love. •A place where people turn to when there is nowhere else to go. •Where people can be their authentic selves and know that God loves them - in a world that may tell them otherwise.

Seventh Street Christian Church is still here and vibrant, because generations of members experienced how the church positively impacts their life and chose to support its mission with generous gifts of gratitude and joy. As we move into 2020 the future of Seventh Street Christian Church is up to us. If you haven’t done so already, we invite you to fill out your estimate of giving form HERE.
