MONTH OF THE ROSARY A LITTLE HISTORY

The liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated every year on October 7th. This has been our

Catholic tradition since the year 1571!

The history behind this is to celebrate the victory of the Catholic League (an alliance with Spain, Venice, the Papa States, Genoa, Savoy and Malta) over the forces of the Ottoman Empire

who were trying to take over Italy-moving into the heart of Europe.

It was October 7, 1571 when the battle was

fought and won. Pope Pius V prayed the rosary asking for Our Lady’s intercession in victory;

every man on board carried a rosary.

As soon as the men returned the Pope declared a feast day for Our Lady of Victory. A rosary

procession was offered in St. Peter’s Square. Eventually it became the whole month of October.

In 1884 Pope Pius XIII officially established October as the Month of the Rosary. (He published Superiore Anno, an encyclical of the holy

rosary that year).

luchó y ganó. El Papa Pío V rezó el rosario pidiendo la intercesión de Nuestra Señora en la victoria;

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY CRUSADE Saturday, October 14th @ Noon

In our Parish Parking Lot. Call Bonnie Patton with questions 649-2729

In the Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort said; “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the

anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer

in times of public tragedy and suffering.

In this historic year of the Fatima Centennial (1917-2017) the world is at a historic crossroad. God is more offended than ever as people ignore Our Lady’s maternal request to “stop offending God.” He will hear us if we pray through the intercession of His

Blessed Mother. That’s why we are doing this.

DID YOU KNOW? As a caring adult, you scope out potential dangers in the areas where a child may be for school, birthday parties, playdates, outings with friends, etc. Another danger to add to your list is the potential for a child to be lured away into a private area by a predator. Abuse can happen anywhere, even in the most public of places, and parents should be aware of any secluded spots that a predator might use. Avoid spaces where a predator could take action – turn on lights, check empty rooms, and patrol sleeping or playing spaces.
