CourseDescriptionSe 2011 Southern Pediatric Endocrine Society Annual Meeting is designed to allow members of the Society and other

interested pediatric endocrinologists and healthcare professionals to present new research findings, interesting or unusualcase studies and pediatric endocrine problems in order to update participants on the diagnosis and treatment of endocrineabnormalities in their clinical practice. Sere will be ample time for discussion, questions and answers and interactionamong participants in an informal setting.

TargetAudienceSe course is specifically designed for pediatric endocrinologists, pediatric endocrine nurses, diabetes educators, PA’s,

fellows and other healthcare professionals interested in pediatric endocrinology.

CourseObjectivesAt the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:• Discuss the evaluation and treatment of less common causes of diabetes mellitus in children.• Discuss issues with continuous glucose monitoring in children.• Diagnose GH deficiency and cortisol excess in pediatric patients.• Discuss the various disorders of calcium and mineral metabolism in children.• Review the appropriate workup for prolactinomas in the pediatric population.• Recognize endocrine disorders in children with cancer and after non-accidental brain trauma.• Implement strategies in clinical practice for treating pediatric patients who are obese.• Discuss thyroid abnormalities in obese children and issues with thyroid testing on newborn screen.• Identify uncommon causes of precocious and delayed puberty.• Review biochemical changes and enzyme defects in children with premature adrenarche and PCOS.• Differentiate causes of hyperlipidemia in children.
